Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
St. Jimmy replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
It's not fixed. But it will happen. Besides, what he say's makes perfect sense. Chill the hell out :-D This. -
To people who think kiling bambis is wrong check this out
St. Jimmy replied to Slyguy65's topic in General Discussion
Easier is to play Arma and practice there ;) -
Should the dot crosshair be removed from hardcore servers?
St. Jimmy replied to ztranger's topic in General Discussion
When you have a gun in your hand it should be removed but I think the crosshair should be changed. I'm not sure is it about the shape or the color or both but it confuses me sometimes. Crosshair could be handy with close combat and throwing weapons so I don't want it completely removed. -
Actually this is a nice idea to find some inspiration. Those riot shields are cool.
-
This issue isn't hardware related. The game runs server side very well compared to the mod but the client side isn't optimized yet at all. This is normal at this point. I get about the same fps.

Persistent storage containers; do you like the idea or not?
St. Jimmy replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
If you can storage as much loot as in the mod then I'm not fan of it. It can break the loot balance. Also you shouldn't be able to get the loot that you had storaged in the previous life because that ruins the perma-death feeling. That could be reduced if you couldn't get for many days on the server you died. Yellow storage box could be a good start to see how persistent storage could be added in DayZ. -
Why the dayz formula will ultimately fail
St. Jimmy replied to randalmcdaniels's topic in General Discussion
Am I playing the game wrong if I like to go through every building and take all the food with me? Gun is just a secondary thing in DayZ because you can kill the zombies with melee without getting hit. Every building is worth of visit except those that have loot bugged. It was different thing in the mod. Those who like to be only in the hot spots are missing the eauty of the DayZ but those guys won't make this formula to fail. -
To those whining about post-processing and gamma:
St. Jimmy replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I wonder why people even use gamma cheat when changing the cloud settings is better way... No need for gamma tuning when I can see clearly because of changing cloud settings. -
So what is the excuse for the poor performance now?
St. Jimmy replied to scaramoosh's topic in General Discussion
There isn't somehow enough room for the CPU work on all the buildings. If you run Chernarus+ alone in the A3 editor the performance is awesome. Something in this engine blocks client for using enough CPU power in multiplayer. So it can't be that buildings are unoptimized but it's something else causing the CPU bottleneck in DayZ. The new arcitechture still doesn't allow the client to be enough free of the simulation. We can only hope that the client side optimization solves this but if it doesn't the engine is screwed and we can say sure that the bottleneck is the same like in Arma. The bad performance doesn't have anything to do with "bad" GPU. With better GPU you can just put some settings higher but the fps remains the same because it's again all about the CPU bottleneck. -
Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.34.115106
St. Jimmy replied to mattlightfoot's topic in News & Announcements
I also played alone Friday for 30mins. No problems. Started to play with my friends and after an hour of gameplay it started to happen but it has nothing to do with the weather. Rain has been there for a long time. -
Critical Unplanned Update of 0.34 to Stable 7 February 2014
St. Jimmy replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Me and my two friends were in the western Cherno apartments and pretty much when my friend found B95 and we started to move towards the fps drop started to happen. It's not about rain or thunder. -
I'm sure that I didn't see any rain inside a house in DayZ. Is the old Arma 2 rain back or what? Or do you talk about the sound?
-
Did the rain really drop the performance for some people? I've never seen performance drop when there was rain.
-
DayZ engine can be a nice base for those kind of game modes. Wasteland, Life and other kind of Arma mods could move in DayZ engine at some point.

DayZ isn't a survival game yet. Survive against other people doesn't make a survival game. In my opinion that's just deathmatch. DayZ should be more about survive against environment. Water, food, temperature, infections, bad weather, zombies, zombies, zombies and other random encounters. When thosearen't hard enough there ism't much to do than live, run and kill other players. Also DayZ needs more things to encourage people to survive against the environment and group together. I still don't believe that everyone would just hunt each other in zombie apocalypse when when you're outnumbered by 1:1000. That's the main flaw in DayZ. There could be some things that you need almost a whole server to group together to survive but I'm not sure what that would be. One thing also is that DayZ is perma-death game but you can run up to your friends in 10 minutes and be like that nothing happened and your friends give you the gear back. That needs to end and I suggested a while ago how that could be reduced bit. The death of your character really needs to hurt so you can call this unforgiving perma-death anti-game.

Yep the movement can continue while after you release your WASD. That's one problem. Other one is the very high negative mouse acceleration when you don't have a weapon.
-
Only reason to keep fire extinguishers is to play saxophone with it.
-
These post processing stuff shouldn't get disabled when you disable post processing. It's sad that they allow it because then people can't give proper feedback. IMO these effects should happen even though you disable PP.

Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.33.114782
St. Jimmy replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Holy cow that new magnum sound is bad but the reload sound is nice. That sound is familiar but I can't remember what's the pistol sound that just has been copy/pasted. -

St. Jimmy replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
The sun isn't bright at all. It's pretty perfect for the gameplay. Only thing that isn't right are those big god rays and they aren't in a realistic level yet. Realism = fun for me. -
Does raw mouse input mean only that if you move your mouse the character moves instantly and when the mouse stops the character stops instantly? If yes then please no. But if it means that if you move too fast the movement is just delayed but the character moves as much as you move your mouse then I'm not against but I don't know is that even possible.

DayZ Standalone: COMPLETE list of all the books in the game and screenshots of their cover!
St. Jimmy replied to marsmars's topic in General Discussion
Put the book in your hotbar -> tab the number that you put it -> book is now open but you probably don't see next and previous page buttons -> hit page up or down buttons and now you can click those -> have fun. If those previous and next page buttons disappear hit page up or down button again. Some other buttons might do that also but I use those. -
So you would just wait for those new loot for couple more months even though they could release those right away? I don't understand that logic. Zombie optimization doesn't come any faster no matter how many items and stuff they release before that. The real problems are just things that you don't fix in days or weeks. The guy who's working on new items and some extra detail doesn't do multi threaded server optimization. Little things come faster than big things.
