Anyone else think DayZ should switch engines?
St. Jimmy replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
If you watch VBS 3 videos and combine the things that DayZ is going to do I got to say there isn't better engine for this. So many things are possible. -
There's a big area dedicated to the mod here. I have no idea how you can miss that :D

After playing Take On Helicopters for 2 hours, I say YES to helos.
St. Jimmy replied to Bambi Population Control's topic in General Discussion
3pp view and helicopters are awful combination. Thank god we have hardcore ;) -
I still hope that rocket and his team would've pushed the red button before the release. There wouldn't be any of these topics, no community split and no "fix" needed. Being able to watch how zombies move other side of the wall or corner without exposing yourself is pretty much game breaking in a hardcore survival game. I say no compromise. Either remove it from the game or let it be. Removing is pretty much ruled out because it's too late...

I hope for stamina and weight feature that makes auto run and running full all the time basically stupid. Something like ACE or the W.I.P. Arma 3 Fatigue did.

The challenge and saga of Zombie Pathfinding
St. Jimmy replied to SmashT's topic in News & Announcements
One of the best devblogs! Even without updates we can see that there's much going on in the background. -
There is some way to make a filter of names you can't use. I've seen people getting kicked because of their name.

Is DayZ being developed right in your opinon?
St. Jimmy replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Well I think they released it too early and they allow too many public hosts. Can't really say anything else at this point. I just hope PvE and survival is the focus after core stuff is enough stable. -
Do we really NEED status messages anymore?
St. Jimmy replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
I think at least there shouldn't bee that much spam. IMO we need customizable UI so we can toggle and place what we want to see. Just like we can customize UI in Arma 3 but also we could toggle them on/off like the GPS with keys or from a menu. That way people who don't like overlays can toggle them off but they can toggle them on when needed. -
So, any word yet on when/if we will get realistic (not random) balistics?
St. Jimmy replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
I'll just say that I believe nobody suggests that dispersion need to be taken out from weapons. We just want more realistic level dispersion and let other mechanics like weapon sway and kick and even a wind to simulate the inaccuracy just like in real life. Being a 12 year old doesn't suddenly make the gun spread bullets like crazy compared to 32 year old military guy. There are better ways to simulate inaccuracy than huge weapon dispersion. Weapon dispersion increase depending in the condition of the bullets, attachments and gun and even depending on what weapon attachments you've is fine for me. The dispersion change should be minimal if you attach bayonet on M4 for example. The sway and how quickly or well you can react in tigh space should be the main effects. -
Deathmatching will never fade from DayZ with spawn changes. Waaay more radical things like punishing deathmatching and dying need to be done before that happens. Now we can have that one close city that works as deathmatch zone and everybody else who don't care killing can easily avoid that. Spawn spreading however could change that there isn't a deathmatch area right next to your spawn.

I'm constantly shocked they don't throw all development into vehicles
St. Jimmy replied to huggalump's topic in Suggestions
I surprised that people even want vehicles that bad in the game. I couldn't care less about them really. -
Inventory needs to have way more slots. Items need to have both weight and volume values. (Long post)
St. Jimmy replied to St. Jimmy's topic in Suggestions
Yep I like how BIS has done inventory in Arma 3. Though if I remember right in Arma 3 items don't have separate volume and weight values so they have to fight between balance of the size and weight of an item. I like how Arma 3 inventory is basically slotless and that's what DayZ would also benefit. -
Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.
St. Jimmy replied to Bambi Population Control's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
They haven't really cared much about the difficulty because they're still doing core engine stuff. They could make the zombies like in mod but they still go through walls, suddenly stop because of the server performance etc. There are so many things to do before the balancing of the zombies. -

St. Jimmy replied to St. Jimmy's topic in Suggestions
Yep tetris would be another solution but not really the best one. Then we would need stacks like DemonGroover said, because small items would need to take one slot and the slots can't be too small so you can even recognize what the item is. The biggest thing is to decide how many items yo can stack until you need to make another stack with small items. And the minus side is that you can't have various small items in your backpack because one item takes one slot. But one solution for that could be that you can make every slot separate as "a bag" where you can collect smaller items like bullets, mushrooms and pens under one slot. You would need to right click to open the bag. The thing is how the item damage would be handled with items that are stacked? You can already see that there's a problem with ammo stacks. Stacks maybe could be expandable like inventories currently and that way every item has their own condition. I forgot to mention that crafting table, workbench or some kind of a similar thing would be welcome. Some kind of an UI where you can drag items and combine them there because even currently sometimes items are far away from each other and if the inventory will be expanded at some point "crafting table" is what we need. -
Please say NO to parachutes. The vast majority of us have played the mod and know the joys and pains of having helicopters - broken window causing fuel to leak, main rotor parts being nowhere in sight when you needed them, the joy of fixing your first heli... Then taking to the skies to find every possible clan camp on the map... Just kidding :P I like both turtles and parachutes.

Running speed depending on clothing and equipment
St. Jimmy replied to degude's topic in Suggestions
This is a must in the game at some point. 180km2 would really feel something. Also you would need to think how you handle zombies because if you've tired yourself too much before you can't run away from them unless you drop your stuff but even then outrunning could be a problem if you've tired yourself too much. Way more tactical and survival feeling. Too bad that the inventory system isn't designed well for this system so we can't go for ridiculous equipment but only able to walk slowly. It would be cool to carry 1000 pens in your backpack just because why not :D Arma 3 does the inventory better in that manner. -
Troll harder black knight.

I just run, loot and say hello if I see someone. I'm more cautious in military bases and I make sure I won't be looting with someone at the same time. I still never shoot first until I'm certain that I'm getting killed. If I see something that I want but my inventory is full I don't think much what I drop. Most of the time it's drinks or food ans I'll likely find it again later if I really need it. Sometimes i sacrifice items for a cooler character.

Very good suggestion!

Just quick google shows what the moa should the guns have. Generally it should be easily under 10 but guns moa is between 20-40...
-
99% chance that zombie got you. They can come pretty slowly towards you because they can stop for a while and continue after you after the server makes them move again. You really need to wait and observe before you log out because there can be a zombies 500m away from you standing still but it's really after you when the server makes them move again.
-
I think that function is enough. When they fix the issue that you can't always jump it's good for me.

I managed to trick myself *facepalm*

True Reason For East-Coast Spawns? Map Expansion?
St. Jimmy replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Yep. Only place they can expand anymore is the sea but also that is limited. If Rocket says that Chernarus is 240 sqkm and Chernarus real land mass is 180 sqkm then there's about 60 sqkm of unused sea where they could make some small islands.
