    What has to be done!

I am thinking this would add whole new meaning to DayZ, escpecially with all the new road blocks and military camps scattered around Chernarus. Making camp and putting up tents in hard to reach areas of the woods could actually keep you from getting raided every time you log off. Less careful players that stick to the roads to most effectively cover longer distances are great targets for robbery, interrogation, torture or just some good old KOS. It could also prevent a lot of the KOS since giving away your position would, with a decent stamina system in place, be deemed too risky in many situations as you can not just bolt it in any direction for 5 minutes to get out of harms way. Hunting would become more natural as one would most likely travel quietly through the woods to not get killed by other players, and the chance of spotting a potential enemy or game is therefore much higher. Playing with friends would be a much more intuitive process as well. In its current state I notice that as most players have different styles and tempo, most of the time players spend half a session autistically screeching on TS; 1 -Hold on, I'm just gonna chop some kindlings. 2 -Ok. (some kindlings later) 1 -Where are you? 2 -I just walked up the hill. 1 -WHAT HILL? 2 -The one next to the barn. 1 -WHAT FUCKING BARN? 2 -Dude, the one we were just at. 1 -I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU IN LIKE 2 MINUTES AND THERE IS NO BARN HERE!!! 2 -IT'S RIGHT FUCKING THERE! (10 minutes later) 2 -I SEE YOU!!! I AM HERE! 1 -FUCKING WHERE? 2 -HEEERE!!! 1 -Oh, I see you. Where the hell did you go? 2 -Uh, I dunno, I just kept on running in lightning speed in sort of the same direction while you stopped to chop some kindlings.

    All alone?

I haven't played DayZ in a long time. Checking it out again after a long stretch of Arma 3 gaming. Can't find a soul anywhere. This has been my route on full pop servers. I have seen nothing but two deer. Where is everybody? Is there a new hot spot? I'm gonna continue updating the route until I see someone.. or until .60 hits stable and my guy gets wiped.

    All alone?

Finally found one.. or two. At NW airfield. Where else?! They're dead.
  4. Hola sobrevivientes! Everyone who has played DayZ since the latest update have a thing or two to say about it. Some are furious and think the devs have raped DayZ to death. Some think it's heading in the right direction. Here's my take on a few things. Melee I've been puzzled when it comes to the melee weapons since I first started playing DayZ so this is a little out of context. If they want it to be a harsh, unforgiving and somewhat realistic experience then the melee weapons should be completely overhauled. Harsh and unforgiving doesn't mix well with totally unrealistic. If you've ever used a hammer, machete, sledgehammer, axe or even a tire iron in real life then you would know that all of these items could kill pretty much anyone or anything in a single strike if you hit a critical part of the creature. Bashing a zombie ten times with a pristine machete and it's still standing and fighting like crazy?! It should be a pile of blood and limbs. I'm not really sure what the backstory is, but I'm guessing that it's not a legion of crackhead wolverines that has been unleashed in chernarus. Food and drinks Ok, I understand that we can not go full realism on this one because then you could eat a can of baked beans, an apple and drink a coke (when not starving or thirsty) and be ready to stroll across the entire map using roads and paths. But come on... Today I was starving. I ate more than ten apples and two canned tunas within a time frame of 10 minutes and starved again less than 15 minutes later. If someone was actually starving and ate that much he would get very sick from eating too much. It would be better if my character had to sit down to rest and digest the food for a couple of minutes. I'd prefer that over standing out in the open picking apples for the same amount of time and get KOSed while doing so (happened earlier today). A can of baked beans, some tuna, a tomato, a couple of apples and plenty of water would be a full day's rations in a real life survival situation. Eating a couple dozens of apples, half a kilo of tuna and canned bacon and find yourself starving less than an hour later is just ridiculous. Especially when food is so scarce. IMO it would be better if the devs made it more exhausting and difficult to travel. The constant sprinting through all kinds of terrain is equally ridiculous. ...and for the love of Odin, make it possible to put a piece of meat and vegetables on a sharpened stick to cook it. Loot spawn I prefer less loot. Less weapons, ammo, clothing and food... as long as a can of beans or an apple actually has a substantial effect on my character's hunger and health. That's all for now folks...

New update broken? I'll try to be constructive

If you look at the conversation between me and Ebrim you can see no bloody hatchets are swung, simply because there's no finger-pointing or attempts to call out a crying whiner. It's as simple as that. Our "discussion" is over.

    Accelerated Time Fragnet Servers

I'm not sure if it's allowed to promote servers in this part of the forum so I keep the name to myself... I don't wanna get in trouble, haha.

New update broken? I'll try to be constructive

In my initial post I wrote "all of these items could kill pretty much anyone or anything in a single strike". Am I wrong? Sometimes I do get lucky and one-hit-kill zombies and I have not said that it is impossible. Following that statement I comment on the fact that you can hit a zombie 10 times with a machete without it even slowing down or showing any signs of being physically injured. Are you saying there is no logic in that argument? Oh, I forgot... I'm whining, right? Why are you looking for a "fight" where no one is opposing your own experience with various weapons / tools. Nothing I've written is whining nor crying, it's something called sharing your opinions and having a discussion. If you do not approve of people sharing their opinions, and in a civilized manner discussing them with other people, then maybe you should move to Iran or something. This is what initially ticked me off; "I dont get this community with the oh i am hardcore i play dayz and straight bandit killer mofo ya da ya da moment they turn up the difficulty a little ( and i imagine its going to get harder) the fucking tears start flowing, what happened to being mr bad ass pvp king??" I'm seriously so fucking tired of people like you flooding every single game forum with your negativity. You can't even direct your negativity in directions that actually make sense or at forum users that are as negative as you are, and when you're caught making fools out of yourselves you desperately try to save face... which only result in all threads, no matter what the topic is, becoming so fucking tedious to read.

The self-obsession of people these days... like if facebook wasn't enough. Now "selfies" are taking over in DayZ too!? Also teasing with love, haha.

I still haven't cried once. I have shared my opinion on the current DayZ nutrition equation (or whatever a game dev would call the balance between what you eat and how that effects your hunger and health) and what I think about the items used as melee weapons contra my experience using the same items in real life. Quote me crying once in this thread, without taking sentences out of context, and I'll both applaud you and call you sir for the rest of my days spent on this forum. If you can't do that, please stop whining about a quarrel that is non-existing in this specific thread.

Oh, I totally forgot. When I was about to starve in my last session, I had two cans of bacon in my backpack but nothing to open them with. In desperation I ran to the cut end of a crash barrier and tried to smash the cans open against the sharp edge... do I need to tell you the cans stayed sealed and my belly stayed empty?

Did you only read the topic before posting your comment? No one here is whining and crying about the game making it more challenging to reach an actual PvP level of gear and health. The only one whining and crying here is you. Please post these "I'm such a bad ass virtual apocalypse survivor, women throw their panties at me in real life"-comments elsewhere.

    Accelerated Time Fragnet Servers

The private server I'm playing on has a pretty neat and simple way of dealing with this. When the server restarts it's daytime, 13:00 - 14:00 (it varies), so when the sun goes down you know you're closing in on a restart. You get an hour or so of dusk and night before restart. This way you can prepare for server restart and treat it as "bed time". After restart it's a new day! Feels authentic enough at the moment.

We should be able to craft a bow drill or find a tinderbox by now.

DayZ a computer game? Blasphemy!! It's an alternate reality / social experiment that puts humanity's true colors on display. Give people a huge virtual world where they can socialize, trade and cooperate. Add some weapons and watch them hunt.. *hrmf* sorry, I mean ruthlessly slay eachother... over and over again. For that all you need is two hands.

I think you're the one having a cracky out of body experience if you can see yourself in third person... that's some trippy shit.

I got jumped by a crackhead trapped in a room today. Nasty little surprise! They should try to make characters vs crackheads more colloidal or whatever it's called (english is not my first language, but I'd struggle to find a word for it in swedish too). Like two physical beings that can't run/jump/attack through eachother. One second the crackhead is here, then the crackhead's there... the cracky is pretty much everywhere. Knock me back when you jump me crackhead, damn it! Edit; Come to think of it... I only play on first person servers, or one server to be exact. Maybe they're not clipping through me... or are they?

I had a pretty rough journey up until the "apple picker murderer" kicked my ass. I got roughed up by a couple of crackheads, was on the verge of starvation a couple of times and had not seen much of nutrition throughout my journey. But I wasn't cold or dehydrated and I rarely sprint because it ruins my experience (I tend to roleplay a bit by myself for my own masochistic amusement). I had some friends on TS, scattered all over chernarus, experiencing the same difficulty to get energized. At the end of our session manic and desperate cries could be heard echoing in our TS... "- Apples... must... pick apples... apples... APPLES!!!" Edit; I'm a pretty good crackhead executioner. They usually go down without me being too bothered. I still think two or three machete torso strikes should silence them tho... at least make them a lot weaker e.g. they go prone and crawl at you, making them less of a nuisance.
  18. I've only read the first post and I have to say that it's not only a well constructed and explained thought about the "issue" in DayZ, but also something that needs to be discussed and adressed by game developers, gamers, parents and whatnot. Games these days, especially games where one is allowed to carry a gun, focus on killing and killing only. DayZ is different and I think it even has the potential to change the way none-gamers view video games, usually as interactive murderous brainwashing platforms, to where they'd understand that a video game could be just as much of a social experiment. Anyways, back to the "issue"! Add a weight limit and a stamina system that interacts with health, hunger and thirst. If you're above your weight limit you will get out of breath and lose the ability to run or even jogg much faster. If you're carrying an entire arsenal and exceed your weight limit by miles you can only walk and thirst/hunger builds up more rapidly. Also remove the layer on layer possibilities in the inventory. This would force one to carry necessities rather than only focusing on weapons and ammo. Bandits wouldn't get far hauling around an armory of weapons and they themselves would have to focus more on survival. It wouldn't force them to be friendly but they would most definitely find themselves in sticky situations more often where they could use the help of a friendly samaritan and his inventory capacity to make a fire, cook some steaks or just ask for medical assistance. Bandits be bandits and heroes be heroes, just as it should be. But if a bandit finds himself in situations where he neeps help more often, that might just force feed him enough compassion to make him think twice before pulling the trigger.
  19. Hi! I've just started playing DayZ Standalone and so far I have developed a love/hate relationship to the game. I definitely see a ton of potential tho. Here are a couple of guns I'd be stoked to see in Chernarus. I know one or two of them are highly unlikely to find in rural wherever-chernarus-is, but they'd still be cool as fudge. 1. De Lisle carbine The De Lisle carbine or De Lisle Commando carbine was a British firearm used during World War II that was designed with an integral suppressor. That, combined with its use of subsonic ammunition, made it extremely quiet in action, possibly one of the quietest firearms ever made. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Lisle_carbine This bolt action silent killer would be sick to roam around with in high populated cities at night. As the Thompson it's chambered with .45 ACP so it would be perfect to carry together with a 1911. 2. Thompson M1A1 The Thompson was favored by soldiers, criminals, police and civilians alike for its ergonomics, compactness, large .45 ACP cartridge, reliability, and high volume of automatic fire. It has since gained popularity among civilian collectors for its historical significance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thompson_submachine_gun Needs no further explanation. 3. 38 Special The Colt Detective Special is a carbon steel framed double-action short-barreled revolver, and is an example of a class of firearms known to gun enthusiasts as "snubnosed", "snubbies", or "belly guns". As the name "Detective Special" suggests, this model revolver was used as a concealed weapon by plainclothes police detectives. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_Detective_Special Just get it in there! 4. FN MAG (preferably the -58 make) The FN MAG is a Belgian 7.62 mm general-purpose machine gun, designed in the early 1950s at Fabrique Nationale (FN) by Ernest Vervier. It has been used by more than 80 countries, and it has been made under licence in countries such as Argentina, Egypt, India, Singapore and the United Kingdom. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_MAG Mechanical, big, heavy, hard-hitting and brutal. If a beast like this would be to OP in DayZ, maybe limit it to be a carry-in-hands-only weapon due to the sheer size and weight of the damn thing.
