Not really going to get into it too much but to simply put it, there was a hardware issue that has delayed the experimental build, I think it would have been nice if that "hardware issue" had actual details, like what went wrong. I have had hardware issues over my time using pc's and can usually figure out what is wrong within a couple of hours and if a game being developed was my job I could have that required peace of hardware at my doorstep in 1-3 days, also another great idea would be simply continuing my work on another computer by simply using the backups that I'm sure they all have or simply throwing the harddrive into another computer and using that harddrive to boot the pc. There really is so many ways to continue your work. Maybe they have gone full cheapo on development and have no spare computers to use? I'm sure a 1-2 thousand euro if that is far too much to expend considering the limited resources dayz makes, cough. What's your guys opinion?

Continuing from my previous post about body armor and how it should ideally work " https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/221376-bullet-resistant-protection-actually-giving-bullet-resistant-protection/ ", closer to its more true to life cousin "VBS3". If done correctly it could be another one of those shiny diamonds that brings people like me that love games that are authentic and immersive "being shot with a 9mm with a plate carrier on and being wounded breaks that immersion" back to dayz time and time again. But with that said the damage system in dayz is actually fairly bad. Arma 3 is doing it right in the hitbox department with far more hitboxes that could be coded to do different types of damage varying in severity. However for that achievement the game takes a big steamy crap on it by having a health bar represented by a percentage of health, add that to the fact that body armor just increases that health bar offering no real protection and it just leaves you scratching your head as to why it was designed that way and left like that as if it was a fully functioning part of the game. My only question now is if dayz will correct arma 3's shortcomings again by doing this part of the game right. This is up for debate but in my opinion simply having some contact in medical practice, be it a nurse/doctor/field medic could bring vast knowledge on tap to the developers if they wished to make the damage system more complex. The reason I believe this can be such a huge step up for the enfusion engine is by the actual difference it will make in game, in order to get effective/instantaneous kills you would have to hit vital parts of the body. To simplify things I will just break the body down into some parts and describe the kind of effect damaging those parts of the body would inflict. Head Blunt trauma = slightly blurred screen, screen wobbling, sensitivity to light, Being knocked unconscious, fatal. Bullet = instantaneous death if bullet enters the neurocranium or hits the spine, the facial skeleton can inflict serious shock damage sending you into unconsciousness but its highly unlikely to cause instantaneous death. Sharp object = Heavy blood loss, depending on the size and weight of the blade or piercing weapon it can cause instantaneous death. Lungs Bullet = heavily decreased stamina if one lung is penetrated and needs immediate medical attention otherwise both lungs will be effected and in quick fashion loss of consciousness will occur and shortly after death due to lack of oxygen. If both lungs are penetrated then it speeds up the whole process. Sharp object = same effect as a bullet. Heart Bullet = instantaneous death. Sharp object = instantaneous death. Guts Bullet = heavy blood loss, but no instantaneous death here folks. requires immediate medical attention or consciousness will be lost and death shortly following. Spine Bullet = instantaneous death. Sharp object = if the weapon is heavy and big enough to get through the spines protection then instantaneous death will occur. Blunt trauma = like the sharp object if the weapon is heavy or big enough to sever the spine then instantaneous death will occur. arms Bullet = medium / low blood loss. severity of this wound is not capable of ever inflicting an instantaneous death but if left untreated blood loss will result in loss of consciousness and death. Sharp object = low blood loss, though if left untreated unconsciousness followed by death. Blunt trauma = Capable of breaking bones and low blood loss. Needs medical assistance to fix broken bones and blood loss. Legs Bullet = in upper thigh high/medium blood loss, severity of this wound is not capable of ever inflicting an instantaneous death, lower leg and foot medium/low blood loss. Needs medical assistance to stop bleeding or will result in loss of consciousness and death. Sharp object = medium/low blood loss, without medical assistance will result in unconsciousness and death. Blunt trauma = Possibility of broken bones if struck with a heavy or big enough weapon and low blood loss, Needs medical assistance to fix broken bones and blood loss. There we have it, and before someone says something this complex cannot be done. Yes, yes it can. The hitboxes will be the first issue, making them as complex as arma 3 or above. Then coding the hitboxes surrounding the body parts to do the damage accordingly. I am sure the coders are more than capable. The resulting effect of something like this. Less instantaneous deaths from wounds that are not capable of inflicting instantaneous death and if the goal is to achieve these types of kills then accuracy is key. No more shooting people in legs being more effective than shooting them in the upper chest. If you shoot someone into the leg and they shoot you into the upper chest. Who has a higher chance of dying here? I'd like to also note that it does not have to be this complex but I still think being killed by wounds to your limbs has no place in any game that is trying to take itself somewhat seriously.
-
Exactly my issue, the human body can take a hell of a beating sometimes and still operate, in other cases it is quickly shut down, it all depends where you were hit and your reaction to the wound. Killing someone in dayz and getting an instantaneous kill should be rare.
-
Yeah thanks for clarifying what I meant agouti, the femoral artery if implemented and damaged would cause rapid blood loss and should only be fixable by some form of proper medical equipment vs just a bandage, maybe a medical sewing kit and tourniquet and bandage is required to heal that kind of wound, the tourniquet is applied first to give you substantially more time to sew the wound and apply the bandage.

Well without making it overly complicated, since forever I have had this strange gratification when shooting things with a bow and seeing the arrow protruding out of the wound and or protruding out of the exit wound, plus I find it hard not to laugh when you manage to shoot someone in the knee or butt leaving them alive solely for the entertainment factor. Am I alone? -

Having been with someone that was a nurse and hearing the multiple stories of gunshot wounds/knife wounds you are incorrect. Leaving the arrow in the wound would apply pressure on the cut arteries and flesh that it has created thus stemming the bleeding. Snapping the arrow close enough to the entry wound would be advisable to stop the arrow moving and doing more damage though so you are not totally incorrect. A wound like that would need to be stitched up though so yeah a bandage would not suffice. I completely agree though the damage system needs to be redone, check some of my other posts on here :) -
Here is a huge game changer that enfusion can bring us, concealment! The current method in the real virtuality engine "arma uses" is beyond garbage. Instead of going into the details I'll give credit to "Ecloo" and direct you to his very well formed opinion on the matter. https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/140105-rendering-grass-at-long-distances-my-thoughts-about-it/ What "Ecloo" was suggesting is a really effective simulation of what we would naturally see in real life, but it's not perfect. The human eye notices movement, and the scenes currently in arma and dayz are almost completely static, thus any movement is instantly noticed. In reality there is lots of things moving, grass, trees, dust, the list goes on. But clearly todays software/compute power is fairly weak at replicating anything like this. But the concept "Ecloo" was mentioning can work.

Anyway, lets try keep this about the suggestion aye?

Stop making such statements that are irrelevant to the topic. Support for the game is exactly as I stated, Bug fixing and maybe official server support. So who is on another planet here? The fact you wrote "how about modding" sarcastically clearly represents you were directly referring to what I was talking about in my OP, I clearly stated if these features couldn't make the cut before full release then they could easily be added on post release, and my fear is that dayz will indeed of course have support, but not the support in the way of adding meaningful features like nearly every game released today. The only content they release is DLC that you have to be ridiculous money for. Explain to me how console support insures the features I was suggesting are added? When did I say longevity was my concern? Also, in some ways you are not required to back up what you are saying, for example there is no legal contract to do so, but in another light, such as actually making a valid point. It IS required. I do indeed follow the development of the game, I may miss snippets of information due to having a life but what can you do? I don't feel I have much to offer in terms of good suggestions, I know my suggestions would compliment DayZ.
-
Come to think of it, even if it was stated that dayz will be getting features added a decade from now "I cant find any proof of this", please show me some statements from the dev team mentioning any of the suggestions I have made were in the works.
-
Decade long project? When you make statements like that you should show some actual proof considering it's been apparently said so many times, and the only justifiable facepalm here is the one I am doing at this moment at the fact you have an issue that someone has not seen something you have. Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds? Also another facepalm at the fact you mentioned modding as the solution, if modding was the answer wouldn't you think these mods would have existed in dayz mod, or any of the arma series??
-
Yup, check out some of my other posts. Even if some of the suggestions I have made make it into the game even months or a year post release it would be okay, fingers crossed dayz wont be one of those games that gets released and gets MAYBE a couple of bug patches here and there and is left to die. That seems to be the trend with most games, a set period where creation and development and then the dreaded full release comes and the creation and further development seizes to exist, you would think by not having to create so much content that actually makes the full game their hands would be free to look into more complex and in depth features but instead just resort to patching bugs. It's mind boggling.

That would be hard to animate, but maybe just a simple remove arrow from body selection, having to do that in order to bandage the wound, but as a result after removing the arrow you bleed profusely until the bandage is applied. So if struck with an arrow and you are without any bandages? It would probably be best to leave the arrow where it is until you get medical supplies. -
Imagine the day a developer responds and says they have actually read and acknowledged a single suggestion post? Tbh maybe they do, they must just lurk around in the shadows.

Ceramic plates were the first bullet resistant plates used back a decade ago, now they are made out of layers of hardened steel and such and are capable of stopping a 7.62x51mm nato round multiple times even armor piercing rounds of that caliber can be stopped by level 4 plates. Google AR500 on youtube. Also the bullets energy would be dispersed on the plate itself and very little energy would make its way through. Soldiers don't even realize they are shot until they check their armor for damage and find little holes in the fabric.

I played ACE on arma 3, it has worse protection and damage system than vanilla arma. ACE or community made addons are not the answer unfortunately. The bandage process need not be complex. Morphine and bandages could work just like they do now. All that needs to be changed is how the player is effected to different types of damage. Medium/long and short range firefights would greatly be improved with this system. In CQC you would have to aim for vital parts of the body to kill the person before he/she hits the ground. In longer and medium range firefights you would have a more true to life engagement with the rare chance a bullet flies and hits someone in the head or chest rendering them dead or dying. Rounds that hit the arms and legs are not as serious and of course shots that hit body armor if done correctly will do nothing. Firefights will be prolonged and more meaningful than just landing shots anywhere on your enemies body and being rewarded a frag. Of course weapon recoil means a lot for this to occur but judging from how the development team are making automatic fire have more dispersion "as it should" I believe they will do fine in that regard. Only body armor and damage dealt to the player need work in my opinion. If this is done right then future games made by bohemia interactive running on the enfusion engine will be greatly more in depth and more sophisticated than the extremely lacking current protection and damage system in place as of today.

They have recently re-added the plate carrier vest into the game "From what I heard hackers could spawn this item" this vest was literally one of the most anticipated items in the game for me to be added. But sadly as I expected this item to not function at all like most features added to the game I was correct, let me digress A kevlar vest uses fibres to trap the bullet and stop penetration. A level 2 bullet resistant vest can stop 9mm and 357 magnum at point blank with a level 3A "Also kevlar" being able to stop a 9mm and 44 magnum point blank. Now let's actually compare hard plate vests shall we? A level 3 hard plate vest can stop in its tracks a 7.62x51mm nato ball round. A level 4 hard plate vest can stop a 30-06 ARMOUR PIERCING ROUND!!! But the plate carrier that's just been added is defeated like any other clothing item in the game, One .380 pistol round goes right through the vest damaging both the vest and your blood level? Remember a bullet has to pass through the bullet resistant material to make contact with flesh. I can understand a kevlar vest giving shock damage when hit but a plate disperses the impact on the plate itself so a plate vest should take all pistol rounds in game with ease shot after shot after shot after shot after shot, I would even dare say the damage to the plate would be so minuscule from pistol rounds you could take a couple of magazines to the same region on the plate and not get through, with the 7.62x51mm nato being stopped for a far lesser amount. how it should be Kevlar vest if added "Pistol rounds should not go through, remember its fibre so it can take multiple shots without breaking apart like plate armour so no blood damage should be dealt and if there is it should be a tiny amount as bruising would take place and possible internal bleeding though what is more likely is a superficial wound like being hit by a really powerful paint ball causing broken skin bleeding and a hefty welt. 5.56 and above should go clean through. Plate vest like I said above should take pistol rounds all day with ease with only the 7.62x51mm nato round doing hefty damage to the plate and able to get through after a few shots. The first shot to the plate should give no blood damage or shock damage and the second should give some shock damage and no blood damage, the third should go through. Now from personal experience and observation what I have said will offend the knights of dayz and they will be thirsty for blood so let me set a challenge for you to overcome, you WILL say this is over powered and make's the wearer a tank undefeatable by mere mortals, to the vests defence I ask you to take second and think what a real life bullet resistant vest does. Dayz is trying to be realistic? The firearms are trying to mimic the real thing food tries to mimic the real thing the vehicles are trying to mimic the real thing so let's not forget that in real life if a person is shot with a class 4 vest with a 30-06 armour piercing round he will be unscathed. Aim for unprotected area's of the body, the head the neck the arms the legs. So what do you think? -

Bump, this thread needs to be seen by a developer in my opinion. -
I think it's pretty safe to say the developers have little to no knowledge of firearms considering how awful you represent weapon sway in the game, No offence its just clear to see. So I think I should give you guys some valuable information. If you guys want to mimic real life body movement, try use the same method as mo-cap for animations, but simplify it. Let me explain Jog or exert yourself until you are out of breath, stand 10 meters away from a wall. Take a weapon "real if possible as it has the proper weight" and point it at the wall, there should be a laser attached to the firearm "Don't over think it just duct tape it on". Now simply record the dispersion you are experiencing. "Try hold the thing as straight as you possibly can" Repeat this but the second time hold your breath. And there you have it.. a real life representation of how a civilian "I know you devs like to use this term" handles a weapon while out of breath. Everything I have explained is simple to do and is far more accurate than using your imagination to get it right. Only laziness is stopping you from doing this.

Sorry for not replying in awhile, busy with studying. Let me just say something that I've previously said. Your personal style of playing is completely and utterly besides the point. If you prefer to play the game a certain way then by all means enjoy that way of playing but do not try tell me your way of playing should be the only way of playing, IF YOU ARE SO GOOD AT BEING STEALTHY THEN IT WOULD NOT MATTER HOW STRONG CONFRONTATIONAL PLAYERS ARE AS THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CONFRONT YOU, NO? I have clocked in 1000hrs on the standalone already "I know, no lifer! " my point is, I have experienced most if not all ways of playing. And as someone stated I am very much a social player. My sense of satisfaction is from meeting people, having them try to kill me and fail in glorious fashion or just group up and socialize like human beings and have an authentic believable world to explore. If you can sit there and try give reasons why anything from our own world should not be in this game that is trying to do one thing and one thing only, Give us as much real life items and variables to create our own stories. Then you are just scared out of your mind of change and want to hold all the cards in your hand "your play style". DayZ is trying to mimic the bodies need for hydration and nutrients, Firearms try to mimic the real thing. Vehicles try to mimic the real thing, everything is trying to mimic the real thing. If I said dayz would be better with more content then someone would try argue why it shouldn't be in the game, but why? Sometimes its due to you believing its not possible. But what I can see happening here from the opposition of the vest behaving realistically is just fear of a "as stated before power creep not in favour of your playing style" So I think anyone who is logically thinking can agree. This is not a debate IF the vest should be in the game. It's a matter of, does the development team have the same thought on the matter. I mean they have added the vest to the game, That's the first step. But do they actually know how the vest should perform? Or are they actually aware but have their own idea of how it should perform? It would be wonderful if they could take a moment to let us know what is happening here. Let's not forget the only reason this game is being made is because of our money that we gave to you in return we can use this software "game". I am not trying to sound like a self centred brat but the facts are the facts. There are many development teams now "the most well known would be Cloud Imperium Games that is currently developing star citizen" that have no issue taking time away to clear up where the game is headed and what is being changed without acting like a money craving machine like EA and other such developers that really try their best to hype the hell out of their games and hide any information about the game like it was a conspiracy. Now I'm aware they might not have people hired for this purpose and it can be tedious however to add a vest that is a pretty big deal considering this form of protection has only really worked in one of bohemia interactive's games is a little odd not to explain what is happening with it or what will become of it in my opinion. -

See, I've found a much more viable tactic of not getting bullets into my body. I mind my surroundings, and don't wander around in the open. And the people shooting at you are idiots, since they're attracting a lot of unwanted attention. And what do you think will happen when you take a Mosin shot or a couple AK rounds to the chest while wearing a vest? You may not die, but you're still going down. There's only so much damage they can prevent. This proves you have not been reading what I have said previously, I will not reply to you any more because of this. No pun intended Also I dont believe a modding community can pull this off, it needs to be made by the dev team not by modders.
