why is food so rare for me?

Hey, you don't have to kill the people yourself, but when some pathetic guy with an AK has run around Kamy killing every fresh spawn he see's, you're doing everyone a favour by harvesting that juicy meat. Don't let a fresh spawn die in vain, eat them!

The below suggestions are great, however right now, human meat doesn't make you ill. So if you spawn on the beach, look down and search for stones. When you find one, put it in your hand and look down again and craft an improvised knife. Then go and either kill a player, or perhaps easier, find one that has recently died (the coast is littered with bodies), and then cut him up and gobble him down.

    DayZ Mod or Standalone?

The mod is as the name suggests, a mod for Arma II/III, and it varies from mod to mod. People might add updates from time to time, but this is primarily done by individuals rather than the paid development team that the standalone has. The Standalone is as the name suggests, a game in itself, in early alpha and a work in progress, with regular updates and additions as it progresses towards release. I recommend the Standalone for the simple reason it's already quite fun to play as it is in early access, and you're investing in a game that mostly gets better with each update. You won't have to buy it again when it's finished, and most likely the cost will be higher on final release, so you're saving a few pennies. Even if you play the standalone and don't enjoy it first time around, you can keep checking back as it approaches release (over a year away) to check for changes and improvements.

    DayZ Standalone Alpha Review

People all want different things from the game, but right now it's just a basic shell of a game. It's early alpha, and we're really just game testers that have paid for the privilege. We don't get the game we paid for until it's finished, and that won't be for well over a year. So enjoy the ride, endure the game breaking updates, and by the end of next year hopefully we'll have an idea of what game we're playing. I've paid a lot more money for finished games that I didn't enjoy anywhere near as much as this alpha mess. If an unfinished, glitchy, buggy mess with no end-game keeps so many of us this addicted then we're in for a great finished product! My first experience of an MMO was 15 years ago (not counting various MUDS earlier than that) on a game called Asheron's Call, playing a mixture of Thistledown PVE server and Darktide PVP server. Death wasn't final in AC but you lost your stuff and got a reduction albeit temporary in stats. I used to run around exploring the AC map for hours, it was a slow grind, and on Darktide PVP server seeing a red dot on your mini map was an adrenaline rush. But it was fun, and exciting every time I played. When it was released, it was a very tough game, you had to combine so many different ingredients for spells, there were limited portals so you had to run around a lot. Getting gear was hard, and it took time to raise your stats. Over the years players moaned it was too hard, or too easy, and each update and new expansion they'd tweak it, they took away spell ingredients and just had a single item for each magic class, they added more portals, they made XP easier to get, they added ways to keep your gear on death, they kept tweaking it and tweaking it because of player demand and the game ended up a pile of crap. Who the playerbase blame? Themselves for demanding so much from a game, and ruining everything that was fun? Nope, they blamed the developers. My hope for DayZ is they stick to making a really difficult survival game; no stats, no achievements, loads of crafting/farming/survival/base building mechanics, max players per server in the 100's, zombies in the 1000's, military gear scarce, and please no helicopters! That is what the core game should be. Once the game is released the modders will be able to make the game they want from DayZ, and perhaps those mods will be more fun, but lets keep the core game about survival.

    Chernarus needs better rail cars

Haha, don't you have a StarTrek tech manual to be reading?
  6. lrp1984

Something brief that needs some addressing.

As others have stated, this isn't anything to do with persistence. It's down to the type of server you have selected. Your public character will remain on all public hives, one for 3pp and one for 1pp. Each private server has its own player database, so you will have a new character for each one you join (unless the private hive has more than one server connected to it). It is important to understand that these characters exist independent of each other, so a new spawn on a private shard will not effect your public character, nor any characters you have on any other private server. Private hives are over-all more fun to play on than public as lack server hoppers, and therefore it's much more of an even playing field.

    Chernarus needs better rail cars

I'm pretty certain this is not a priority to anyone else that develops or plays the game.

    Most detested item in Persistence

When you kill a guy and check his inventory and find all his tinned peaches are ruined :(

Any info on the 24 hour cycle bug?

The game is meant to only be played at night unless you're an unemployed bum?

Any info on the 24 hour cycle bug?

This is the response I gotfrom Curt Anderson @ Multiplay;- The Dev's have enforced a ban on always daytime servers, sorry there is nothing we can do about this. I would suggest playing with the time acceleration until you have a balance of day and night as this is most likely how the game will progress anyway. We are looking for other solutions but can't talk about them currently. Please remember to submit tickets for these questions as i will not always be able to respond. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are paid up a month in advance and have over £100 towards next months fee's. It's a little annoying we're stuck with a server that I don't even want to play on (I personally don't mind night servers, but I like to play with more than 5 other people.) We have pissed off donators and players in our community. Now I'm happy to have a night-time cycle within the restart cycle, but by not being able to set a static in-game start time I have to set the acceleration at a very high rate to have any chance of seeing sunlight when I am able to play in the evenings.

    Multiplay Users please read

Hi, I run a private 50 slot server with multiplay and I'm starting to get a little annoyed at this 24 hour time cycle with no ability to change to a static start time. I appreciate it's a feature, however every other provider allows people to set a static time, and Hicks himself has posted on the forums stating hosts can set a static time. Multiplay stating it's alpha, and blaming Bohemia for not being able to change the server time is not really acceptable. If everyone that's with Multiplay can contact me, we can contact multiplay together as a joint group to ask for action to be taken. If multiplay fail to make changes, then as a large group of server admins, bringing in thousands of pounds to a provider, I am sure we can negotiate a comparable or better with another host. I've paid £500 to multiplay in the last three months, I expect a little better service for that kind of money.

Any info on the 24 hour cycle bug?

Hi, unless you're with Multiplay who don't allow you to change the start time. As such my server has dropped from 50 people in the evening to less than 10. Most people play in the evening. The time accelerator is good if there is a static start time, but not so good with the 24 hour cycle as any restart occuring after 7pm has hours of night ahead of it unless you set the acceleration to 10+ and then it just starts to get a little silly.

    Most wanted feature?

In all honesty, before they put the loot system back in they need to work on making it possible to be self sufficient without needing to "loot" at all. Right now you can't survive in Dayz without having to find certain items, be it rope to make a bow, or a box of matches to make a fire to cook your food, or an axe to cut down the right type of tree. It should be possible without having to search for any specific loot spawn to search for a stick, make an improvised knife, attach the knife to the stick using reeds found near a stream, and then stand in the sea, and through an F command try and harpoon fish (the same way as searching for apples), then attach the fish to another stick and cook it over a fire. A fire which you have lit by rubbing sticks together or using some flint you've found. Once they have made it possible to survive on dynamic spawning items (IE stuff you can get in particular areas by pressing F, stones, sticks, apples, fish etc), then nobody can complain about the lack of food.

    Most wanted feature?

If people don't play the original game then they're doing something wrong. I'm sure the game will always have players, and to be honest, with such small numbers per server, a few less people wont make much of a difference, and if they're all playing a mod it's still money for bohemia.
  15. lrp1984

    Most wanted feature?

I'm sure they'll allow mods, since the game originated as mod. And yes, I'm sure someone will add an Arma mod to DayZ standalone :P
  16. lrp1984

    Most wanted feature?

I think base building will be the most fun feature to be added to the game.
  17. lrp1984

    Most wanted feature?

I'm not sure modding is what's needed on a game that has not yet reached final release.

    Multiple Characters

Worried about your wife seeing you played on the "Hot Girls of DayZ who share pics" server?
  19. lrp1984

    Multiple Characters

Yes, you can use the same name. A private server character will never wipe a public one and vice versa. The same goes for 3pp and 1pp. You can have as many private hive characters as there are private hives. They don't save to the same place, so you never need worry about one messing with the other. It is also important to note that a private hive can have more than one server connected to it, and the character will remain between the two (almost creating a mini-public network). Some of the bigger private hive communities have 2-5 servers connected to their hive.

Has anyone found any AKs in 0.55 stable?

They spawn in any random place right now. I found one in a bus stop.
  21. I'm not sure. Lately there have more a few restarts by the host to correct issues with the loot spawning.
