will I get banned if I server swap?
lrp1984 replied to Lee_Harvey_Oswald's topic in New Player Discussion
Hi, No, of course it isn't a reason to get banned. You'll only ever really get banned for hacking (and quite rightly so!). The problem you'll find is you significantly increase your chance of death by doing it. The only places worth the effort of doing it, and the load times etc are military bases. If a server only has 2 people on it, at least one of those 2 people is server hopping like you, and they're also going to be at a military base. If a server has been up for over 30 minutes, the military bases have likely already been looted, so you've wasted the 60 second countdown plus the minute on Please Wait (where anyone can kill you), and the time it takes to run around. People will server hop the servers that they know the restarts for. Vilayer servers restart every four hours at set times, 4pm, 8pm, 12am etc, so if you try it at these times you will likely meet other server hoppers. When you consider server hopping you really need to think about what you're actually going to achieve by doing it. If you spend a couple hours server hopping around a military base, and avoid getting killed, then you'll likely have military jacket, trousers, boots, high capacity vest, helmet. hunter or mountain backpack, maybe an Assault Rifle and a couple clips, and plenty of food. Awesome. It's taken you a few hours, and it's been pretty dull doing it. So you're all decked out in your military gear, and decide to go looking for adventure or action because hey, you have a 75 round clip, so who can mess with you now? I'll tell you who.. pretty much EVERYONE. The guy that just spawned can get a lucky punch, knock you out, and take your stuff and kill you with your own gun. The guy that spawned 30 minutes ago that found an SKS and ammo in a town has the same firepower as you with your AK and 30/75 rounds because it doesn't take more than 10 shots to kill you. And I've not even mentioned the people that will have found a Mosin and long range scope/compensator in the towns, who are now camped out ready to kill any guy with an AK from 800 meters. If you want to kill other players, my best advice is don't bother server hopping for military grade gear, just find yourself any old gun and get to it. You can find a sporter with clips and ammo pretty easily, yes they're not a lot better than a pea-shooter, but if you get the drop on someone they're still lethal. The same goes for the shotgun. The sks and mosin are not too hard to find, although the ammo is a little tougher to come by. You will feel a lot better about yourself if you get a kill when you have basic gear, and just as importantly, you'll care a lot less when someone kills you. And if you plan on looking for players to kill, you're almost certainly going to eventually get killed yourself that way. -
You might have missed a lot of grenades because of this.

So, let's be honest here? How many of us have blown ourselves up with a grenade? -
Private Shard Pricing is Outrageous
lrp1984 replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Hrmm, as a means of boycotting he is going to provide free advertising for the server hosts over social media sites? That'll teach them. I hate how annoying my girlfriend is, I'll teach her a lesson by buying her a new handbag. -

I think more people are paying for public hives. Clans use their servers to gear up, rarely to actually play on. Unfortunately a lot of the server rules are not followed. One of the funniest server names I've seen recently on a 30/30 server was "Ongoing maintenance, constant restarts expected hosted by gamingdeluxe" IE, they're loot farming but think the name will stop people reporting it. -
Married and two children in one day? Amazing

I thought the random leg break was due lag between the client and server. I think it triggers a fall and the related leg break or death if you move too quickly from one height to another. You can move pretty fast up and down the stairs in the fire stations due to the type of ramp-like stairs, and if there is a bit of lag when it's updating your location, it see's that one second you're on one level, and a millisecond later you're at another so triggers the fall mechanics. Most vertical movements like ladders and stairs, hills etc are pretty slow moving so this doesn't trigger a fall. I don't know though, this is just my best guess.

bad version, server rejected connection
lrp1984 replied to RoryLowes (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
There is no real way of knowing, however five hours ago Eugen replied to a tweet saying worst case scenario, 7 hours from him sending that reply. Therefore we could assume that it should be back up in the next two hours. The best idea is to just wait until tomorrow. -
This sounds like every day at NWAF on a high pop server :P

It sounds like your system might not be up to DayZ right now. This doesn't mean you have a bad computer, it's just that DayZ is not very well optimised. Laptop/desktop? What are your specs? If you have less than 8gb's of ram it's unlikely there is much you can do to get it any better. If you have 4gb's of ram, with an average graphics card you'll find you can run around for a while in the countryside and it'll seem ok, but the moment you go near a city or a zombie you'll drop to an unplayable frame per second rate. Right now, you need to expect to be playing on low settings and not getting much better than 20fps in a city.

Are you using a laptop/desktop? What OS? A quick overview of your system would be useful to identify what might be going wrong. Are you using a regular jack mic, or a USB? Other than Skype, are you using your mic with anything else? Teamspeak/vent etc? You could have a hardware problem, or a driver issue. It is a lot more likely to be an issue with your system than with DayZ, particularly with it causing skype and your whole pc to crash.

To be honest, as much as you like to argue it, this will never be added to the game. Having to wait 30 minutes after death before you could play again would almost certainly lose a huge majority of the player base. Clans would stop bothering to rent servers, the server providers would lose money, and ultimately Bohemia would lose money. The only time a developer would add a 30 minute respawn to a game would be if they then intended to add a game marketplace where you could pay $1.99 for an instant respawn. But fear not, you can now play the game you want to play anyway. Pay the $75 a month for a private hive, add a lock to it, and play the game however you want with no other players. I've actually seen this already. A Server called "My Survival game", pop 1, locked.

That is not strictly true, most people that try and knock a geared guy out with their fists to loot their gear don't then decide to never try and kill another person. In fact I would say the mental illness moves onto serial killing pretty quickly.

If you want me to read and take in what you have to say, please at least write the word 'you' not the letter 'u'. This isn't an SMS message, you do not need to get as much information as you can into 100 characters. If you were a native English speaker, I could almost forgive you, but you have actually had to consciously learn English, and they wouldn't teach you that. Anyway. Can we still be friends?

I've not forgotten about them, I just don't see how that's relevant? Sometimes I play alone too, and then I'm a really nice and friendly Bambi, and I've always just got the game and don't know what I'm doing. Often a nice a guy will come along and give me some food, and before long we're best pals and he's helping me find clothes, and then we find a shotgun, and he lets me have it, and he even gives me some buckshot that he found. I say thanks, tell him he's a great guy, which is rare here. Then when he's busy axing a zombie, I shoot both barrels of the shotgun into him and take the rest of his stuff. Sometimes I kiss him before I leave.

"the effective centre of an activity, region, or network." He basically want's to know where the majority of activity/action is on the game. Still the south coast as far as I can see.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say sorry to Marius, I didn't mean to handcuff you and force feed you disinfectant, it was an accident. And when I punched you in the face, it was a punch of kindness. I'm sorry you died in a pool of your own vomit. I hope you can forgive me? I still love you.

The spawn time is long enough at 30 seconds. If you play with a group of people you will know how annoying it is to get back to your friends after you die.

Me too. Disappointed

Private Shard Pricing is Outrageous
lrp1984 replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I can't see how asking for an entry fee would ever work. Firstly I can't imagine anyone sensible agreeing to pay it, since there are free options. However should there be hundreds of private shards with names like "Private Shard, High loot, no hackers, no bandits, $3 a month, see www.paytodayz.com to pay" then this could create a negative perception of the game and put people off it. Not to mention the various legal issues that could arise, as charging an actual fee rather than a donation would imply a contract to provide a service for the x number of days outlined. If you take a $50 annual fee from someone and only keep the server up for a month then you would be in breach of that contract. -
Yeah, that is a little too much. I can understand having them wear out, but it needs to be a little more realistic.
-
That would make sense. I think a better optimised game is essential now that there are so many people playing it.
-
You'd be surprised at how many of us are running around around 20fps in the cities. Be glad you have an Intel processor, as an AMD 8 core 4.2ghz won't run the game anywhere near your i5.
-
No, your specs should be fine for this game, and I'm sure you can run 99% of other games at high settings. It really depends on what you consider low FPS? The FPS in DayZ is low for even the best systems, as the game is poorly optimised. With your specs, and some tweaking you should be getting about 60fps in the countryside and around 20-30fps in the cities. There definitely is something wrong if you're dropping to unplayable levels.
-
I seem to remember reading, or being told by someone, that there is a plan to better optimise the game, or change the engine, during the first or second quarter of 2015 which should give you a better FPS and make the game more playable on lower spec'd computers.

Private Shard Pricing is Outrageous
lrp1984 replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Hi, I've not seen any admins charging a fee, however a clan will often have it's members all chip in towards a server which makes it quite cost effective. I did notice that Vilayer are offering a "Vilayer Hive" for just 5 cents more per slot than Public. Everyone that chooses this Vilayer Hive will be able to lock/password the server, kick/ban and everything that comes with a private hive however all the Vilayer servers that opt into this will be on the same hive and therefore connected. If a lot of people opted into this I can quickly see it becoming the main bandit area. Gear up on your locked server, move to someone elses unlocked vilayer server to kill (I assume Vilayer will run a couple unlocked ones themselves if no players do)
