  1. Did you get a video of this at all?
  2. I banned both of his steam accounts, and his friend. Cheers for the update.

    Private and public ?

Yeah, you can potentially have hundreds of characters if you join enough private shards.
  4. Hey, I'd suggest parking your public character and finding yourself a decent Private Hive to play on. Each private hive gives you a new character, so you can have as many different characters as there are private hive servers near you. Some are locked or whitelisted, but many are completely open. The key benefit of a private hive is there is no server hopping at all, so people can only gear up based on what they can find on that server. Nobody can ghost in unless the hive has several servers connected to it. Generally there are a lot less hackers on private hives as the admins have more powers to kick and ban. I've not logged into my public hive character in months. Post on the forums to find people to play, and give people a chance in game. Not everyone will kill you. Don't start conversations with, "Are you friendly etc". Just go with something like, "Hey Buddy, how's it going? Where are you from? California? Cool, I'm from X. You need anything?". You need to have a headset and be able to talk in game. People rarely respond well to text chat. Essentially you need to build a connection with someone (being from the same country/state helps with this) and show that you're a real person like them, not just an avatar in a video game they can kill. It's easy to make friends in DayZ if you go about it in the right way. You have to accept though that sometimes you'll end up handcuffed, naked and being force fed human flesh. That's DayZ. If you log into a server that gives it's teamspeak channel in the motd, then connect and chat. Good luck.
  5. Hi, The servers are set-up instantly and to be honest, for clans renting a 30 slot public server to gear up on, it would be fine, and I would imagine that is the majority of their business for DayZ. They admitted that the server was low on resources and moved us to a better one without charge pretty quickly and provided a couple free days, so I can't fault them there. The actual human customer service has been good. My only issue right now is they should change the automated set-up to make sure anyone renting a DayZ server, particularly private and 50 slots, is always on the best possible machine, not just the next available virtual server. The upgraded server is significantly better, and the game is a lot more responsive and runs so much smoother. It's funny how much game lag is blamed on the engine and the game being in alpha, however a lot of the most annoying things can be put down to the game being run on servers lacking enough resources. Thanks for your post.
  6. We use Multiplay. We had a few issues with the original machine they put us on being a little low on resources, however once we raised a ticket about it they were pretty quick to upgrade the hive onto a better machine, and everything seems to run a lot better now.
  7. We had some issues with performance and the server host has kindly upgraded us to a better machine. The new IP is 85.236.100.114:2302. It is running a lot smoother now.

    Shot by a garden hoe

Nobobdy really has access to the server. There is a select group of server hosts chosen by Bohemia than you can rent from, and the options you have are minimal. Hackers don't need to have access to the server to hack. I would say it's quite rare for the server admin to be a hacker, since generally people that rent servers do so because they want to play somewhere they can ban hackers.

It could well be desync. Dayz isnt so stable at the moment. Just because the guy appears 20m's away on your screen, doesn't mean it's the same on his.

    My first shooting kill

Three nights ago two friends and I came across 4 players in the middle of no-where and followed them over 3000m to the Vibor military base, where they eventually holed themself up in that military jail building. We watched for quite some time, and could see they'd lit fires inside. We were pretty sure they hadn't seen us follow them. It was on a busy private server that is hard to get into so we assumed they wouldn't be logging off in there anytime soon. Soon another guy turned up, who they promptly killed when he went into the jail, so we got the notion that they were not particulary friendly fellas. But neither are we, so we couldn't judge them there. Fortunately we'd recently raided a few military bases and killed some geared guys over the previous few days so we had over 10 grenades between the 3 of us. We tried talking to them, asking them to surrender, however we got no reply. 9 grenades later and they were more willing to talk. The grenades had killed all but two of them, and those two were pretty ruined from the blasts, having to fix their broken legs. We asked them to come out with their hands up and we'd let them live. They came out slowly, one at a time, with their hands up. Two of us guarded them, whilst another of us checked the building for other survivors. There were none, but a lot of gear. These guys all had fully kitted silenced AK 101's with plenty of ammo and highcap vests within vests within vests. After a long chat about how they managed to come across so much gear on a private server (with their strong denial of duping), and where they were from, and discussing the whole ordeal with a little banter, we decided we would do as we had promised, and let them live, we traded some food and water, one of us even gave them a pair of boots to replace their ruined ones so they wouldn't have sore feet. We let them keep their weapons and ammo, but we did take a few of their grenades and an m4 handguard from them, with their permission. We told them to run away across an open field, and said if they equiped a gun, or turned around, our sniper would shoot them. Once they were far enough away, we ran in the opposite direction. All three of us agreed that this was one of our best and most rewarding evenings playing Dayz (we all have a thousand plus hours in game). Sometimes it is indeed fun to handcuff and force feed a player the human flesh of his friend, but sometimes it is fun to show mercy, to be respectful to the people you have beaten in battle, and then let them live. This would have gone down very differently if the surviving two guys had shouted abuse and insults or other childish stuff at us. They were polite, and so were we. Next time you're in a standoff, try talking, you never know, the bandits that have you pinned down might be grown up enough to show you the same level of respect back.
  11. Of course, in most cases anyone can get whitelisted just by registering on a forum. And neither the game or battleeye record when you kill another player, and it's unlikely the victim will get the name of their killer before being killed. So even on a Whitelisted, strictly no PVP server, you can expect there to be people there to kill you.

    I like to aggravate Bandits.

Bandits that interact and speak to fresh spawns do so because they're usually too scared to try the same thing on someone that might have a gun. The group I'm with usually now try and interact on voice with everyone, be it demanding they drop their weapons, to speaking nonsense, or just having a chat. We rarely kill a fresh spawn unless they're trying to punch us out. The most important thing if we have recruited many players to our clan through the game. Sometimes it pays to talk a little, maybe you'll find a friend. Just because they're a bandit doesn't mean they're a bastard.

Status Report - Week of 05 Jan 15

Indeed, or perhaps create a customisation process for the character model so we everyone can look a little more unique and we simply have to recognise our friends by their unique face.
  14. Hi, Myself and 5 friends are looking to setup our own private shard. We would like to have a 50 population server, which is open to all. However this is quite a costly endeavour, so we would like to see if there is anyone in the UK or western Europe (server would be located in UK) that would like to contribute and of course play on this server. The more of us there are the less we need to each pay so please send me a message or reply to this thread if you're interested in getting involved. Thanks
  15. I was taking a stroll through Elektro as a new spawn when I got my legs broken by a random guy, who then fed me Tuna until I was stuffed. Fun times.
  16. Err, kind of sounds like you were the Bandit and killed 6 survivors. Well done.

How's this game on a large hdtv?

I hire out the local cinema and hook up my rig to it. If it's less than 500 inches, don't bother playing bro.

are duping and hack issues fixed ?

Sadly this isn't true. The game is built more like a first person shooter's multiplayer mode, which makes it a lot easier to hack. Without significant changes to the game engine and client/server architecture hacking will remain. The people that come up with these hacks are intelligent people that are making a living from designing hacking software. For many of them it's how they put food on their table, so they won't stop doing it. When you're killed by a hacker, it's very unlikely you've been killed by this intelligent hacker. You've been killed by some pathetic kid that has paid the $15 for the software (plus the free spyware/malware that they didn't know came with it :P), and is now running around through walls killing everyone they come across, thinking it makes them elite. These are a pathetic breed of gamer, that lack any actual skill in games and prefer to cheat. They're boring and dull people that have few real friends, no girlfriend, and worry their parents. It's unlikely you can stop the hackers from making hacks. If I were Bohemia I would recruit the best hackers onto staff, and then flood the internet with fake hacking software that doesn't do anything other than report the downloaders steam accounts for an instant ban.

    Your fetish item

Pristine handcuffs, burlap sack, and a bottle of disinfectant.
  20. If you're finding "LOADS" of AK's but no Mosin's it suggests you're only looting military bases. Try looking through a city as suggested by others. I once found a mosin, lrs, compensator and 3 boxes of ammo in some tiny little village in the middle of no-where inland. Any town can have them if it has a pub building and a piano house.

The Biggest Word To The Wise

I died a couple nights ago during a skirmish and found myself a new spawn just outside Elektro. Sadly I'd recently changed computer and hadn't got round to setting a default character so I spawned as a blonde girl. I ran to the road to double check where I was and instantly came across a house, beside the road that had a fire lit and two geared players inside. I ducked to avoid them but it was too late, they'd seen me. One of them came out and invited me in with his thick eastern European accent, and said they had food etc. I had nothing to lose so I thought I'd see how this was going to play out, they fed me, and explained what foods were best and started giving advice on how best to loot etc. I thought to myself, maybe these guys are actually ok, and mean well. They show me the fire, and tell me what button to press to sit down (I'm playing along with being a new player to the game). So I sit myself down, and within a couple seconds they've got cuffs on me. From there it pretty much turned into the first half of "I spit on your grave".

will I get banned if I server swap?

Hi, No, of course it isn't a reason to get banned. You'll only ever really get banned for hacking (and quite rightly so!). The problem you'll find is you significantly increase your chance of death by doing it. The only places worth the effort of doing it, and the load times etc are military bases. If a server only has 2 people on it, at least one of those 2 people is server hopping like you, and they're also going to be at a military base. If a server has been up for over 30 minutes, the military bases have likely already been looted, so you've wasted the 60 second countdown plus the minute on Please Wait (where anyone can kill you), and the time it takes to run around. People will server hop the servers that they know the restarts for. Vilayer servers restart every four hours at set times, 4pm, 8pm, 12am etc, so if you try it at these times you will likely meet other server hoppers. When you consider server hopping you really need to think about what you're actually going to achieve by doing it. If you spend a couple hours server hopping around a military base, and avoid getting killed, then you'll likely have military jacket, trousers, boots, high capacity vest, helmet. hunter or mountain backpack, maybe an Assault Rifle and a couple clips, and plenty of food. Awesome. It's taken you a few hours, and it's been pretty dull doing it. So you're all decked out in your military gear, and decide to go looking for adventure or action because hey, you have a 75 round clip, so who can mess with you now? I'll tell you who.. pretty much EVERYONE. The guy that just spawned can get a lucky punch, knock you out, and take your stuff and kill you with your own gun. The guy that spawned 30 minutes ago that found an SKS and ammo in a town has the same firepower as you with your AK and 30/75 rounds because it doesn't take more than 10 shots to kill you. And I've not even mentioned the people that will have found a Mosin and long range scope/compensator in the towns, who are now camped out ready to kill any guy with an AK from 800 meters. If you want to kill other players, my best advice is don't bother server hopping for military grade gear, just find yourself any old gun and get to it. You can find a sporter with clips and ammo pretty easily, yes they're not a lot better than a pea-shooter, but if you get the drop on someone they're still lethal. The same goes for the shotgun. The sks and mosin are not too hard to find, although the ammo is a little tougher to come by. You will feel a lot better about yourself if you get a kill when you have basic gear, and just as importantly, you'll care a lot less when someone kills you. And if you plan on looking for players to kill, you're almost certainly going to eventually get killed yourself that way.
  23. So, let's be honest here? How many of us have blown ourselves up with a grenade?

    Private Shard Pricing is Outrageous

Hrmm, as a means of boycotting he is going to provide free advertising for the server hosts over social media sites? That'll teach them. I hate how annoying my girlfriend is, I'll teach her a lesson by buying her a new handbag.
