    Best updated WIki?

    The whole point of a "Wiki" is that it is community updated. Your best bet would be to find the one that a large amount of people use (ie; DayZ TV and DayZ DB) and do the same. Of course, you could contribute by updating the Wiki. :)

    Unconscious Timer

    Just a quick idea I thought of that may spark more player interaction, and I was wondering what you all thought. BACKSTORY: We ran into a group the other day, killed two and knocked one out. We were going to attempt to restrain and patch up the last guy, but unfortunately he clicked "Respawn" before we could even get the rope on him. Had he not done that, he would have been allowed to live with some of his gear (sans weapon) and wouldnt have had to make the run all the way back to Vybor from the coast. I'm sure he thought we were immediately going to kill him anyway so he chose to respawn, but had he waited or been FORCED to wait, he would have came out alive and our encounter would have been that much more fulfilling. (see the video below for the encounter if you wish) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C7sRoe5qAk SUGGESTION: Add a "timer" of sorts that does not allow you to respawn immediately upon falling unconcious to increase the amount of kidnappings/restraints of downed players. Anywhere from 2-5 minutes after falling unconcious where the "respawn" button is unclickable would allow the opportunity for people to patch up fallen survivors, but still allow people to off themselves if they get "stuck" as unconscious for an extended period. I'm no game developer by any means, but I don't THINK it would be terribly difficult to add that functionality. What do you guys think of the idea?

    Unconscious Timer

    Im sure you were directly responding to what billnye said, but my original suggestion was to only put a timer on the "Respawn" button itself. In my opinion, if somebody doesnt want to play out the situation they are put in they should at least be forced to leave the server. I never suggested the devs force a player to sit through the entire duration of their unconscious state. (read the quote above for my reasoning) Sure... as I said above my suggestion was only to put a timer on the respawn button itself. If people REALLY dont want to wait or are getting griefed they would still have the option to log-out. Thats the workaround. Thats the grief protection. But on the highly populated servers that have tons of people spamming to join, having to log out would be more costly than simply clicking "respawn" while unconscious and running back to your body in hopes they left some scraps (or haven't even looted you yet). I really don't see many negatives to this, and the few that people might try and make a case about are minimal compared to the positive things that could come of this

    @geekin You have to go into the filter and uncheck the "Password" option. It would also be a good idea to type "experimental" into the hostname and set the ping to 0. That way you dont have to load the entire server list since the server browser is massivly laggy, and you can see the servers with a ping higher than 100.

    You can tell by the movement, and if you watch it in high quality you can see it flapping around. Chickens already exist in game, and you can see them up close in the Pax East stream video. Brian even mentioned specifically that there was a bug where way to many chickens were spawning in the cities since they have multiple possible locations.

    I also run a couple servers and every time an update has come out the GSP has updated everything on their end. No need for the admin to do any work other than re-tweeking a couple of settings you had before, as they may have been changed back to the default during the update.

    Do you consider DayZ (1.0) to be a survival game or a survival simulator, and how does that distinction (if you make one) affect the future plans for DayZ? How hard is it to balance realism, while still allowing people to enjoy the game?

    Just an FYI, we have a person in our community who has the same problem as you. He uses an AT&T 4G LTE hotspot and it allows him to play on a pretty regular basis. Not saying he doesn't suffer from the occasional connection issues, but he can still enjoy the game. If you aren't limited by data usage, it would be worth a shot just to see what happens :)

    Fantastic!! This was a big issue that's caused quite a few untimely deaths. I'm sure all the people who thought they were in cover but were stuck standing, or got shot by somebody they couldnt see because the guy shooting was stuck in the crouch position thank you big time! Luckily, we usually run in groups so we could identify the issue for eachother. Its nice to know that we might not have to worry about it soon!

    You will be the only person able to see your stats unless you deliberately share them with somebody. It isnt like the Mod where you get a bandit skin after killing X number of people.

    @emuthreat Not trying to rain on your parade or anything bro, because I think its absolutely AWESOME that you are trying to help out the devs and push this game. But I THINK what you are planning on doing is something the devs can easily test themselves with their dev tools in a short period of time. Perhaps the time would be better spent if you contact the Devs to find out some of the things they can't easily test in the internal build? Just a thought. Best of luck to you!

    Our Saturday event. We decided to hop on the UN server and work across the map to get some better weapons for our group. We ran into a group of 3 moving towards the VMC while we were inside looking for gear.... The guy at the end died (respawned) before we could tie him up and bandage him :(

    Haha! Definitely man. What I WANTED to do was let them get in the base and cornered in a building. Unfortunately they spotted him almost immediately. I don't know how to make it record only what I say in teamspeak so you can hear me mutter "crap" under my breath just before I take the shot. I didn't want to kill them :P

    High FPS still lagging..

    A lot of people have the same issue and 9 times out of 10 it seems to be because they are running dual monitors. If you are as well, UNPLUG the 2nd monitor from your PC (don't just turn it off) and see if that helps. I've also heard it is primarily a problem if the monitors are on separate resolutions, try making them the same if possible. If that IS your problem, you can find more info here:

    Unconscious Timer

    In order to get "stuck" in an unconcious state, you would have to lose enough blood to keep you down, not be bleeding, and not have enough energy/hydration to heal yourself over time. If that is the case, then yes it will take a long time because you will essentially have to die from the elements. It can happen any number of ways, and isnt uncommon. If you watch the video below, you can see that he lost enough blood to go unconscious. When he did, his teammates bandaged him but didnt have a saline. Since he was fully hydrated and energized he was able to generate enough health to wake back up. On the flip side, later in the video one of the other guys wasnt so lucky. He was bandaged, but didnt have enough energy/hydration to get back up. Luckily, he was force-fed enough water and food to get back up at the very end. I don't think the unconscious state is really bugged at all. Just some people put themselves in better positions than others. If you are prepared for the worst, you just might pull through. But even still, if this is implemented and if they are "stuck" as unconscious they would still have the option to log out to kill themselves. Adding this as a feature would simply make it more "perma-death"-like as it is intended to be, as well as some of the extra benefits I mentioned above.

    Modding: Arma mod for DayZ Standalone

    Arma already exists, but I am sure somebody will eventually make the mod you are talking about. DayZ was special because it was different from everything out there. On the flip-side of that, you can already play the Chernarus map in Arma and essentially have the same thing you are looking for now. There are many popular Arma 3 mods similar to the "Overpoch" mods of Arma 2. I don't know a huge amount about modding in Arma, but I'm sure there is some kind of mod that improves the UI.

    Unconscious Timer

    I should have probably mentioned that the incident happened on a private server. So I suppose I am suggesting to have the option available on private servers, but I don't think it would be bad to have it set across public too. Sure, if they want to log out to kill themselves they will. And sure, they may end up getting the good old "double tap" sometimes. As of now, if you log out while unconscious or restrained, you instantly die. But by not making it easy for them to just click "Respawn" and essentially commit suicide just because they are unconscious, you would be enabling more chances for player interaction. After all, this is supposed to be a survival game. If you go unconscious, don't you want to survive? Allowing such quick respawning feeds the PvP-only mentality, and takes away quite a great deal from those who actually TRY to interact with people (even after shooting them down). Another thing the devs (and the rest of you) should consider when thinking about this idea: The new non-lethal weaponry that will be eventually coming into the game. If people just click respawn so quickly after they get knocked unconscious, its not very "non-lethal" :/ EDIT: This game is supposed to be a "perm-a" death scenario. If they go unconscious and want to quit, shouldn't they be forced to log out of the server at the least? Clicking "Respawn" on unconscious is essentially saying "Well... lets try again". If they want to remain on the server, shouldn't they play the situation out for the duration? This would be especially prevelant in the popular private servers, where they would essentially be forced to give up their player slot to the people spamming to join. I supposed I could make an argument about "Respawning" in general, but thats a different topic :P
  24. As everybody has been saying, it is really up to the individual player/groups to determine how they want to handle the situations they are put in. As the game progresses, Infected and wildlife will become more and more prevelant and will factor into what you do. Just look at the teaser video for wildlife that was released a few status reports ago. By simply taking a shot at a deer, the player was mauled by a pack of wolves. The same will go for the infected in larger cities. The Devs plan on introducing more and more Environmental threats into the game, and as they do the playstyles in the game will change over time. As far as the game in its current state, yes... it is primarily PvP. Cherno/Electro are known to be the worst areas for this so most people who aren't LOOKING for a confrontation know to avoid or spend as little time as possible in and around those areas. But even still, as you move more inland the weapons get more powerful so the threat increases. Most times, if two seperate parties cross paths it wont end with a friendly encounter. Take my video on this thread for example: Sure, I posted the title as a "3-man Squad Wipe" but as they were approaching it wasn't my intention to kill them outright. Originally I had pulled my guys out and were going to allow the approaching group to enter the base. I was hoping they would enter a building and we could come up behind and pin them inside. Unfortunately, they spotted our guest that met up with our group and I had to make the quick decision on whether to turn and run or to engage them. If I had turned and ran, there is no telling if they would have let us go, shot us in the back, or followed us until we were vulnerable. In order to ensure my group remained safe, we had to remove the threat. And that is exactly what we did, but even still we attempted to restrain and heal the last remaining unconscious player. Unfortunately he chose to respawn while unconscious rather than allowing us to let him live. ^THAT, my friend, is what DayZ is all about to me. The choices you have to make when your back is up against the wall.

    New to the game, extremely slow.

    If for some reason your CPU does get locked, you could check out a program called "ParkControl" that will unpark (enable) all cores of your CPU. EDIT: Also from your screenshot it looks like your resolution is set extremely low. Try bumping it up to your monitor's actual resolution, as well as setting the rendering resolution to 100%. It probably wont fix that weird 3d thing you have going on, but will make the game look a lot better when you do get it working properly.
