PLEASE reverse the NEW "Client Side Personal Night Light"

I would advise you to search for a nice community server you like. There are alot running the game pretty much vanilla but with custom length on night and daytime. The one I frequent, has about 30 minutes of nighttime and 2-3 hrs, I believe, of daytime. It's also Private Hive which gets rid off the nasty server hopping issue. I very much wonder how you broke your leg though, because fractures are currently not in the game. Perhaps you are travelling to us from a different time? Sad to hear that there are cheats to bypass the gamma exploit fix. Maybe you can point the devs to it, in the unlikely case it's not on their radar yet.

    Experimental Update 1.03.151544

@ImpulZ @PeterNespesny Please, pretty please with sugar on top, fix the f***ing lootzone around players, it seems to be 10x10cm in the center of the player and when the bodies are glitched into some sort of structure, as it often happens with the death animations, the loot is inaccessible. VERY annoying and I cannot understand how this could be f***ed up but anyhow, pls revert.

Well issue with the flare is, it runs out after some time, which for most noobs might not be enough time to find their way to a longer lasting light source. So I really see no reason how the flashlight wouldn't solve the issue.

Sure that would be useful, but noobs might not make it in time, so yeah, for the moment I still think flashlight would be the best. Loved the trombone ;D

PLEASE reverse the NEW "Client Side Personal Night Light"

Yeah, I know we spawn with a flare but to quote @ImpulZ Now the flare I believe runs out at about 15 minutes which, let's be honest, for a complete noob with no map-knowledge can definately lead to getting completely lost and that, combined with the absence of proper moonlight is quite a problem. Here's another question I have for you: ImpulZ is speaking of compromise here, but I really can't picture any form of compromise, so please tell me if you can. Here's why I can't imagine any sort of compromise because both outcomes negate each other: You either 1. have enough light around you, so you can orientate, leading to you not needing any light sources, or 2. don't have that light and thus need to find a light source. The flashlight would be very long lasting. I, and you probably as well, was always able to navigate by silhouettes alone, but that cannot be expected of a new player, I agree. The flashlight would be the perfect solution here in my opinion.

I think that's very likely to be true. By the way, I don't know if I'm going crazy here or if I'm overseeing anything, because it just seems so incredibly obvious and simple. What about the idea of spawning with a flashlight? Any objections? Seriously, the problem would be solved in a far more natural manner. Please tell me if you can think of anything that would stand against this idea over the personal night light, because I really can't and it kind of scares me that the devs might not have considered it and I don't understand why.

Thanks, yeah, it's ridicolous and now it's on stable. It's confusing as you cannot really tell, how visible you are from what distance. It's just bulls*** and today it really struck me. They came up with this crazy idea, to avoid new players and freshspawns getting lost. There is a SIMPLE SOLUTION: SPAWN. WITH. A. FLASHLIGHT.

PLEASE reverse the NEW "Client Side Personal Night Light"

While the devs did an overall amazing job with Update 1.02 it just hit stable and the following is unfortunately part of the patchnotes for now. They will likely not get the backlash that is required to revert it, because new players always want it easy. They fortunately didn't listen when it was about the stamina bar and pulled through with their design. But with the "personal night light" it seems they are starting to take the knee, to these new players who don't and can't really know what they want. Excerpt from PC Stable Update 1.02 [LINK]

    Experimental Update 1.02.151010

Hey, really like that one, would be a good compromise, for until they get the moonlight to work properly. After that though, I still want it removed permanently. There is just no ground for compromise, I explained why earlier. I don't mean to sound cocky here, but I have a more simple solution than adding an "artificial magic light bubble" to avoid players ending up without light source. Here goes: Spawn. With. Flashlight....and battery ;D On this note I also want to cheer you guys for all the stuff I like about the latest patches. - Nice enlarged/changed item icons - Walking with open inventory, very good (On that note I want to refer to my post in the "focused feedback round" where the guidelines said "Just leave a can of beans to show your support.", that post had 11 of them, consequently being one with the highest amount of upvotes in the "Character Movement, Gestures and Actions" discussion.) - All those wonderful fixes listed in the changelog! Nice job crushing those! - Adding the Sedan, whooo! ...I'll add more, as it comes to mind. It's important to also word out the things you like and appreciate!

    Experimental Update 1.02.151010

Thank you for the information. Personally I'm fine with a modified version as placeholder until moonlight is properly implemented. On that note, do you have any information as to when the moonlight-issue might be tackled? Regarding the balancing, how do you picture a balanced state here? I'm asking because I can't imagine it, it's either...or to me. Either you need light sources, or you have "enough overview[...]in the dark". Regarding "chain-postings", I'm currently very busy and engaged on your forums, I hope that's not a punishable offense. I currently react to messages very quickly, shortly after I receive them.

    Experimental Update 1.02.151010

Yeah of course, you still see better when you use the flare, everything else would be ridicolous and why would a fresh spawn with nothing to lose not use it, right? The point is, that you don't NEED it anymore. That doesn't mean using a flare isn't more pleasant for the eyes. If you want to see people with medium or even high gear to use their lightsources, e.g. headtorches, then the game must be so you NEED to use your light source.

    Experimental Update 1.02.151010

Golly! Here we go again. The good old "you want inertia, you is just bad at peng peng"-discussion. Now first off, I'm with you when it comes to the fence climbing, it should be possible (as in real life) and there should also be a natural way to hinder from it or make it harder (as in real life) such as barbed wire. Involuntarily implementing an aggression maneuver such as the climbing ("involuntarily", because it's not a team vault move in design) without having a defensive strategy (barbed wire as in my example) isn't good. Now to the intertia I can just say, if you want DayZ to be more interesting then you want to encourage interaction and one very common type of this interaction is holding people up/robbing. Now this can be done of course but comes with too high and more importantly unrealistic risk. If somebody catches you off-guard and has you at gun point in the open, I bet you wouldn't think for a second about running away into the open, trusting you'd be able to dodge and weave all those shots. No, you would be very inclined to comply. So there's usually some thought behind it, thus making it simple and calling people who are in favor of it, just being bad at aiming, is nowhere near striking the core of the issue. Now for the combination lock. 3 digits makes for 10x10x10 possible combinations, meaning there is 1000. Just like a real combination lock, you can just set the first one to "0", the second to "0" and the go with the third "0-9". You don't even have to stop between each turn, you just hold Mouse1 and count with the circles until you reach "0" again. Then you move the second to "1" and go again. Using this very simple method you can crack ANY combination lock that has only 3 digits within a maximum of 10 minutes(!). Try it yourself! So yeah, turns out there is a reason they don't make these in reality. Add only one more digit and you are at 10000 possible combinations, which would also multiply the maximum amount of time it might take by 10, so roughly an hour and 40 minutes. Soooooo to conclude on this, I believe ~100 minutes would be a fair balance if someone really wants to get in and risk being exposed to the owners should they log in or what not. However cracking the locks shouldn't really be the way to break in by design, but rather breaking some of the protection with rare explosives or things of that nature. I'm not even going to touch on the jumping unless you really want me to, as it seems so obvious to me, that you wouldn't want that.

Yeah, I would substitute those images with some that better resemble the issue. In these pictures you are always looking at things far away, in which you can't see any effect of the "personal night light", as that obviously functions with a "bubble" around you. So these shots wouldn't look any different, if they were shot with the previous night time we had, by the time that artificial lighting wasn't in yet.

"intoxicated" hehe, funny way to label it ;D thanks for the info regarding the nighttime, sounds a bit counter intuitive at first glance, but yeah, at least we got those options.

Uhuh, so then how do people make sure their voice is heard, if not for collecting it as a group?! Having a concern, collecting votes and comments and bringing it to the devs attention is exactly that: bringing it to attention. So that doesn't mean that it should be automatically and mindlessly done, which is also very unrealistic as the devs have their own vision of the game. All I did in my original post was asking if the concern would be raised with the devs. So much like @radamantyz you hastily read over my comment and read things into it that clearly weren't stated there. I still took the time to explain.
