Hardware Question - Where's My Bottleneck?
MaxTheSurvivor replied to dashender7's topic in Troubleshooting
Even if not related to your problem, having 8GB RAM with a 32bit OS is pretty much useless. 32bit can only address up to 4GB of RAM. Remove a few RAM modules until you have 4GB of RAM maximum and give it a try. -
I'm running the game with a single GTX 460 in 2560x1600, not exactly the ultimate hardware and have no problems. I may be mistaken but TBH I don't think your GPU is the culprit. Don't worry you can swap an ATI for a NVIDIA in any system. Try to isolate the problem step by step. First change your GPU because it's easy, if you have the same problem you'll know it's not GPU related. I'm ready to give you my gear if I'm mistaken but I'm pretty sure you're running a rotten application that causes a memory leak otherwise many would experience the same troubles you do.
-
Go to Smirnovo north of Novodmitrovsk and you'll find what you're looking for. Don't kill people for a piece of cloth you could easily find if you had more balls. I would understand you're killing people for a M4 with all the attachments but for a beret, you're on the wrong side dude.
-
Try to swap your ATI for any NVIDIA GPU even if for me the "not enough memory" is more RAM related than GPU. Don't buy a new GPU, just find a friend that has one he doesn't need. It's really weird, I'm playing DayZ with a lot of apps running at the same time and never had such issue. I gave up ATI after I invested 2x 800 euros for a crossfire solution and experienced only crashes because of the crappy ATI driver. Usually "not enough memory" means memory leak, check the apps your running.
-
Aren't you recording your adventures with Ezvid or something? Some recorders are filling the RAM in order to avoid dropped frames and empty their buffers to the disk from time to time. That could explain your "not enough memory". Just a guess though.

I think it's a good idea, many people are looking for a way to identify the good people from the evil ones, many ideas have been put on the table (can I say that in English?) and some have been swept away by rants and insults (a thread has been closed today because of the rants) but scars could be a good way to identify those who survived many battles (gunshots or Infected attacks), it's still not a 100% way to know who's good or bad but at least you'll be able to tell if that guy you met has fought before or if he's a lone survivor who's avoiding contact. But will the devs accept to implement such thing as scars textures will make the game heavier.

Found 2 with 2 different characters in Rify but with no mag, pretty much useless. These .22 guns should have their mags spawning next to them because with only one bullet in the chamber you can barely do any damage. I don't even know if the noise you generate shooting with one of these is lower than shooting with any other bigger caliber. The .22 is completly useless right now. Even with a 30 rounds mag if you fight more than one opponent you're dead for sure.

NPH - New Player's Handbook, what you need to know.

You can add the FOV settings tip, good for snipers, good for scavengers, good for anybody who needs to enhance his vision. -
So has there been a wipe yet or not?
MaxTheSurvivor replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
You know you're going to die IRL at some point? Does that prevent you from going outside, drive a car, cross the street? I understand players playing solo who don't dare to login because they fear to lose their gear but you said you have a group, finding gear in solo mode takes about one hour or two, with a group it's even easier. Launch that DayZ app, go back and fight, how much of your IRL days will you lose waiting for the game to be 1.0? -
Same for me, SoD was looking promising, played the 3 different flavors of it and the same crap has been kept in all the 3 versions; come back 3 days later, all the heroes gone or lost 0 food, 0 materials and the same boring missions to try recover the situation. No thanks, DayZ is fine like this, moreover I don't trust the AI to keep things on track while I'm away. Edit: I wonder how Dean will overcome the difficulty persistence involves when talking about bases and shelters we all want to have in future versions, will they be defended by NPCs, will they be left without protection, this is going to be a big headache.

Server is: 173.199.75.16:2302 Name: [FR] Team Les Plows PVP Berezino and Svetlo I forgot to mention the admin kicked me out before these resets about 15 times in 30 minutes and the only players that were on the servers were always the same 3 guys, probably the admin and his friends loot farming. After the 15th or 16th ejection I heard a baby voice (not older than 18) say: "Players don't join or I kick". WTF? I wanna play, I paid for this shit, I'm going to connect anyway and then the resets started. I reported their names and the server to the hoster but TBH I don't think this is going to make any difference. I'm now just playing 5 minutes per day until the wipe, I can cope with bugs, glitches, bandits because that's all part of an alpha or the game, but crappy admins will ruin this game sooner than later. We'll see if 0.49 will make any difference about these rotten servers, who knows maybe the Bohemia will realize all their efforts to enhance the quality of the game can be just ruined in 5 minutes by abusive admins. But to speak the truth I expect nothing from Bohemia in order to solve these problems, after all the very idea of giving the power of god to some unknown admins is the biggest mistake they could have done. Better fewer servers with more control, official control that this mess of thousands of servers managed by who the hell knows.
-
Lost my fully geared char because of abusive admins. The guy restarted the server 4 times in 5 minutes, of course the Zs where back each time and I ended up being out of rags (While using the last one I had my extra M4 in my hands, I dropped it on the floor to bandage myself and the server restarted, M4 gone), so I had to fight the Zs and my canteen was ruined in the process. I started looking for another canteen and t-shirts, another server restart, found myslef with Zs in the area that I cleaned few seconds ago got injured started to bleed and got incounscious before I found a way to stop the bleeding. Game over. There's a huge problem with those "public" servers managed by admins with little honnor working for their clans and reseting servers for loot farming. I reported the server to the hoster, and nothing, that's a major issue for DayZ to survive the next few months. I hope official servers will quickly replace these "public" servers or the game will probably die as soon as H1Z1 or other competitors will be available.

Last week I found 3 in 3 days all un-looted, 1st one was a bit north of the NWAF but the 2nd was far south near the edge of the badlands in a glade far west of Zelenogorsk and the 3rd one was just in the fields west of the Military base south of NWAF. I think the respawn locations are random but probably with higher chances near military facilities. Anyway, those who need to loot some helis know what has to be done; move their asses instead of camping Berezino like a retarded moron.
-
No, you've been the victim of the same hack as many others but you did they right thing by logging out and back on another server. A few more moments on the same server and your avatar would have been erased with the new one. For the last 3 days many have suffered your faith but didn't had the idea to log out and back on another server and they lost everything. GG you escaped this one...

I remember that video made by JamJar, I think it was his videos in hardcore mode, he enters the police station, all of the sudden a guy with military outfit enters through the main entrance, JamJar hails him, the guy seems surprised but he stays cool, they start to chat, trade and while they fraternize you hear a gunshot, boom the guy in the military outfit falls on the ground, his brain all around the place. Then there's a gunfight and JamJar loses it. You never know how encounters can evolve, anything can happen, JamJar probably expected that the guy with the military outfit will try to kill him and death came from somewhere else. That's what makes this game so fun.

Your thoughts on the newest implementations
MaxTheSurvivor replied to Bonappetit's topic in General Discussion
To think the young retards will go away so easily because of the weather conditions is not understanding what they’re looking for. They don’t care at their gear, they don’t care to survive, the only thing they’re looking for is to have some CoD fun. If they ruin your day it's just more fun for them while they hear you yelling in your mic. They will continue to do the same stuff as before, the only thing that will happen is that you’ll have naked psychos with a mosin on the roofs instead of a fully equiped guy. In the streets you will have naked fanatics with payday masks and an axe chasing the other players that are trying to survive because they will be such an easy pray with all their gear heating their body faster than the freaks do. -
Your thoughts on the newest implementations
MaxTheSurvivor replied to Bonappetit's topic in General Discussion
Implementing weather conditions when the engine needs big improvements in the collision system (how the objects interact with each other) is going to probably kill the game apart from the hacking problems that occurred the last couple of days. Good gear is the only way to survive an unexpected encounter with zombies, it ruins your good gear but at least you have a little chance of survival. As the zombies are implemented right now, the game will be too much of a complication to allow beginners or solo players to continue their adventures. Moreover the temperature effects are not totally realistic as from the videos I’ve seen, walking in the woods or being in a house doesn’t lower the body temperature despite not being in the direct sunlight. This will lead to some seriously ridiculous situation where you’ll have people being caught by surprise by a zombie quickly run away to have the time to change gear, take some knocks in the process, try to kill the Z with their good gear then put back their now ruined light clothing (because of the damages while swapping clothing) in order not to die of heat. The only way to make this work is to change the way zombies spawn so that you can take a shot to quickly take down a Z without having the endless re-spawn thing forcing you to run away. We could then walk with lighter clothing confident in the fact that we have an option to quickly end the fight by using a gun. The game is promising but stuff like that brings nothing to the survival especially if only half implemented. It’s an early access yes but there are way more important features to add before this one, the guy who made the video about the temperature effects in 0.49 explained that his character died 3 times of dehydration while shooting. -
zombies still respawning on death site within 10 seconds
MaxTheSurvivor replied to d.walker43's topic in Troubleshooting
This isn’t really a bug, as the servers have hard times running more than a few zombies at the same time (that’s why the population limit is so low for players as well), the devs had to find a way to simulate the hordes they cannot simply afford to display on the current game engine. The idea is to make the game tricky, like when you decide to open fire, if there was only one zombie in a let’s say 500 meters radius because they have to be spread equally on the map, the game would be far too easy. One shot and the whole area is secured of zombies until next restart? People would laugh or complain about that so called zombie survival game that can barely handle a few zombies, so they added the infinite re-spawn to make you suffer in case you’re stupid enough to open fire. That’s why, if you don’t want to be overwhelmed by the undead infinite re-spawn, don’t shoot. Learn to use your melee weapon and take the zombies one by one by sneaking behind them. This of course makes the use of firearms useless until the engine is changed, actually firearms are only useful against other players, just evaluate carefully the situation before you eventually openfire. -
Come on, don't be sarcastic, that guy was probably looking to knock you down. Your situation wasn't exactly the same as what the OP depicted. Unless the guy you killed was a true beginner and he didn't even knew how to open the chat or which key to press to say Hi, you probably did the right thing.
-
As soon as we will have hordes of zombies prowling the streets and the fields these guys will be thankful to meet you. KoS will not stop as long as the main threat is the other players. Of course KoS will not completely disappear and I truely hope there will never ever be any builtin mechanism to prevent KoS. KoS is part of the game but with hungry hordes all around only the most skilled bandits will continue hunting humans. The 12 years old idiots will probably try but after dying about 100 times per hour because they shot someone and attracted one hundred rotten corpses they will either give up this game (90% of them) or they'll start to collaborate with the others. I don't want to see such things as "you killed a player for no reason you are banned for one day", i rather want to hear the screams of the offender as the zombies start to eat him alive shortly after he proudly shot another survivor.

Any option to not lose everything every few minutes?
MaxTheSurvivor replied to Tourist (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Try to survive the best you can. When i started 10 days ago i told myself "WTF did i paid for this?". But i kept trying, there's no tutorial which i understand can be a problem but honestly i haven't played much games that are so unforgiving and that's were the reward is, if you survive a few more hours you're the man. There's a lot of stuff to learn on the Internet about this game and it will keep you trying. Go watch videos on youtube, you'll see more seasoned players, you'll learn a lot and eventually you will feel the need to not give up and give the game a second chance. -
This is definitely a must have.

new player, bad situation
MaxTheSurvivor replied to Mean Gun Morris's topic in New Player Discussion
I forgot to answer about the good place to find some clothing: On the map look for “Smirnovo” is right north of “Novodmitrovsk” you will need to look for 3 warehouse, 5 or six military trucks and some small houses surrounded by a gray fence. There’s plenty of military stuff there and most of the time nobody is to be found there as everyone is looking for airstrips and military bases raids. -
new player, bad situation
MaxTheSurvivor replied to Mean Gun Morris's topic in New Player Discussion
I don’t know if you’re still alive or not but what follows will be useful anytime. 1. Don’t trust people (most are either psychos looking for some fun or they’re frighten and desperate people, the last ones are the most dangerous as they’re terrorized at the idea of loosing their gear, they will most probably Kill On Sight you). 2. Avoid gunshots, zombies will be attracted by the noise and even if you kill one others will respawn and tear you apart at some point. 3. If you have to open fire take cover as fast as possible after you did so (forest) and go the hell out of the area (otherwise you’ll face what’s in point 2). 4. Don’t pickup all the crap you find, there’s stuff you should always look for and other that is nearly useless, here are the items you should always carry with you: - An axe (firefighter is the best but splitting one will do fine) don’t bother with some other kind of melee weapon, they’re ineffective. - A canteen (look for wells to fill them up to 100% all the time) - Some kind of backpack (in the beginning take what you find but be aware that colorful backpacks will attract psychos) - A can opener (people kill for these, you find one you keep it) - One canned tuna or some other canned food (don’t take 20 with you, just 1, you’ll find food in nearly any house) - One soda (same as for the canned food, take just 1 with you) - Rags, though only those in pristine condition will do (real risk of infection and death), find pristine shirt right click on it and tear it into rags - Compass (going in the places with good loot will take time and you will need to quickly find your way, especially in the woods where all the trees look the same). See I haven’t mentioned gun as it’s not something that you absolutely need (you will find the gun but not the ammo or the reverse and you’ll end up filling your backpack with all kind of ammo). Yet if you need one, look for: - Mosin (this is the sniper rifle in DayZ, it’s effective from mid to long range, but you will probably get killed if you try to use it in close combat). If you don’t feel like a sharpshooter then leave it and look for something else. - Assault rifle (M4 or AK101). These are more suitable as a primary weapon because of the high rate of fire and the bigger magazine that will help you survive close encounters. - A pistol of some sort (A .357 fill be a great gun for close encounters) 5. At some point you will need to raid some place for food or drink, but be aware that zombies will lurk in the streets of any place that hasn’t been cleaned by other players. Approach towns carefully and avoid isolated houses in the middle of a field, enter the house, double click each item you find to quickly put it in your inventory. DO NOT sort things in a house, anybody can enter the place anytime and kill you if he can. Get as much things as you can and go hide in the forest where you can sort what you found. 6. If you are spotted by a zombie you have two choices: stand and fight or run. If you’re near dense woods prefer the latter. If you feel comfortable, you know there’s no player around (beware not to assume too many things) face and fight, prefer the melee weapon and use it on the zombie head. IF YOU DON’T have rags with you do not engage the fight because you will most probably be injured. There’s a trick when fighting with a zombie, it will move where you stood 1 second ago, so if you want to avoid injuries you only need to turn in circles around the Z and hit its head. 7. Do not carry too much food and drink with you it’s a waste of space, eat and drink as much as you can until you have a bright green “Energized” and “Hydrated” and only store 1 can and 1 drink. This will leave you with more room for more interesting things. 8. Do not hesitate to travel long distances, the coast is a dangerous place, avoid the cities off the coast, go west inland. If you are Energized and Hydrated you will be able to travel long distances. Prefer a long walk through the forest rather than in the open, zombies will spot you from far far away and so will other players. 9. Set yourself goals, a map is paramount if you don’t want to turn in circles. Look for airstrips or military bases, look for military trucks they often have military grade gear. 10. Google for “Dayz Standalone Weapons” to find details about the ammo they use, their effective range, the noise they do when used, the attachments that can be used. This will definitely help you choose what gun you should look for. -
Wheres the best place to run without getting killed?
MaxTheSurvivor replied to aj1's topic in New Player Discussion
If you play solo you will have to avoid the coast for the time being. The best is to use the woods and go west at the NW Airfield. For your journey just eat and drink until you are Energized and Hydrated, get a Splitting or Firefighter Axe, craft some rags and move. Of course there may be people at the Airfield but as a fresh spawn you have nothing to loose but time. If you’re lucky the raid should be quite rewarding. Then go back to the middle of the map if you want to continue solo play or head for some minor city on the east coast and look for terrorized spawns to help or kill.
