With all the items available in game visible on different web sites, I bet everybody knows exactly what you can find in game. I never found the black skull balaclava but I know it does exist and I'm actively looking for it.

When you rent a server you know you have to respect some rules, one of them is to leave the server open for any kind of public not just your clan or yourself, if you want a private server of your own then wait for private server with private hives to be available. Until then, making a server unavailable to others by locking it with a password or kicking people out is an infringement to the rules you accepted when you rented the server. These are not my rules. If you cannot understand that some people are pissed off being ejected from a server because they've paid the game and they feel like having the right to connect to these servers then you should cancel your server subscription.

It's all about range, IRL approaching an animal below 50m is really difficult. In Dayz you can approach an animal up to 10m before it starts running away. A handgun has an effective range of 50m meters, a blaze can hit up to 400m. Remember that not all items in DayZ are useful, some are useful for those who role play. I usually look for the most efficient item based on my play style but some don't give a shit at efficiency, they want to RP and carrying a blaze, a cowboy hat and a chest holster with a .357 looks good.

Can you see your breath? Some servers are configured for cool temperatures only and if it's the case just jump servers until you recover the situation. Temperature From DayZ Wiki Jump to: navigation, search This page covers the Standalone version of DayZ. For information on the Mod see Mod:TemperatureTemperature in DayZ Standalone is an ever-present danger. Your body temperature determines how easy it is to get Infections. Common temperature while day + running is 42°C (107.6°F), while night is 35°C (95°F). In DayZ, the temperature will vary, even during the day. The Weather is a factor in how warm or cold you are. Your breath will gauge if it is cold outside, if you can see your breath, get some pants on! You increase your body temperature by: Moving (very slow, faster movement speed will neutralize loss)Remaining near a Fireplace (very fast)Remaining inside buildings (slow)Staying in the sunshine (slow - moderate based on time of day)Your body temperature will decrease when: You are outdoors at night (slow)You are outdoors in a rain storm (fast)You are outdoors in a windy environment (slow)You are immersed in water (Very fast)When you reach a body temperature that is too high, you will become hyperthermic. When this occurs, you will see the following status marker: source: dayz.gamepedia.com

Some do that to gear up quickly with no competition. They rent a server for one month and use the server for the own usage looting all they can then connect to other servers and play bad asses. Report these servers.
-
Two solutions if you're still alive: Solution 1: Switch between servers until you find one with sunny weather. That's a quick thing that can save your ass but it may be considered as cheating. Solution 2: Check the online map on dayzdb.com/map and search for a house nearby where you can slowly get warmer.

I never found a SMG in 130h of play, if i find one i ll probably drop my handgun and have an assault rifle and a SMG combination. Must be a deadly combination.
-
The blaze is a versatile gun, a mix between a rifle and a shotgun. It s effective at long range (400m vs 50m) and precise which is not the case for a shotgun and yet you have the same stopping power. It s a great rifle if you didnt find a SKS and if you need to be effective at both close and long range. If you re playing in a group the blaze will allow you to help your mates in pretty much any situation, if you re on your own and fighting more than one opponent in close quarters you will probably die.

I give you my beans because i wouldn t dare wandering arround the map with such colorfull gear. PSO1-1 was a lucky finding but i d love to find your handguard and buttstock and why not an Atlas bipod.

How are we supposed to play the game right now?
MaxTheSurvivor replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
The new loot tables have been designed to stop the CoD behavior, making survival more difficult so that people think more about how to stay alive rather than running straight to NWAF. But the game isn t as hard as you say, just some old habits to forget and replace them with new ones. -
Dying of hunger wayyyyy too often
MaxTheSurvivor replied to MIKEMONSTER's topic in General Discussion
To the OP; maybe you could stop keeping that SHIFT key pressed all the time and maybe eat something instead of moaning about how miserably you died. -
:) ooops, ok i guess the devs didn t realized when they created the stone item that a stone of that size cannot be broken with a fist, or maybe Van Damme or Chuck Norris could. Stone durability should be set much higher.

Not enough ammo? Is that supposed to be a joke? I ve spent an entire week since 0.49 to find my AK101 and its mags visiting all military facilities all around the map and today i had to dump dozens of ammo boxes, pretty much all my backpack was filled with 5.56, 7.62, 9mm .45, etc. You should risk your life more often visiting hot spots if you want to find ammo. The new loot tables are harsh with those who expect to find an assault rifle in the supermarket and i was quite desperate not to find my favourite assault rifle and mags but i m so happy now that i did. With 0.48 it took me 1h to be fully geared, with 0.49 i had to earn that gear.

Don t rejoice dude, that miraculous stone still eats 4 slots in your inventory, more a boulder than a stone. We still need some sharpening kit or a place like these places in the forest where you have lumber stocked that have a grindstone and that can be used to bring a sharp object from badly damaged to pristine.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
MaxTheSurvivor replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Orthodox priest outfit, so that you can have things like this happening: That picture is so DayZ, crazy naked guy with an axe vs the othodox priest trying to restore order in the name of Jesus using a chainsaw  . -
Ohh I found you my little AK101, at last, one week visiting all the military facilities with no luck, until today. Now it's time to find the fabled Smersh Vest, if it ever exists, and bind that Smersh backpack on it! Sounds like finding the unicorn. <_<

The truth is that there's no trick to approach people when you're a lone wolf, yet there are some pseudo-rules that you should keep in mind when you want to interact with others and this either you're alone or in group: 1. Avoid military facilities or über rare loot locations (greed and jalousy trigger anger). 2. If you need to go in these places always assume that you're not alone and that the guy you want to talk to is not alone either. (Keep in mind that even if the guy you start to talk to seems a nice guy there may be someone else around that both of you are unaware of, making both of you easy targets for KoS, therefore don't start to talk in dangerous places and go in the forest if you want to do so). 3. If you still want to make contact, ask yourself this simple question: what are we going to talk about? are we going to trade some items, team up for the time of this session or longer, do I need help, does he need help? If you cannot answer this simple question then there's no need for you to take the slightest risk because the truth is that you don't need to talk to other people. Even worse, your hesitations may make the other suspicious about you "Maybe you're on teamspeak setting a trap for him?". 4. As Caboose187 said, try to have the advantage, do not run right away in front of people yelling "Friendly, friendly". YOU have to decide when and where you will make contact, and in an advantageous position of course. 5. Be prepared for the worst and have a PLAN B, if you decided when and where then you should always think "What if?" and decide of an ESCAPE ROUTE that will allow you to lose your opponents (preferably near woods, never hide in a building except if you intend to flee using combat log) 6. Numbers matter, if you're outnumbered understand that you're not in control of the situation and the best is to wait for the perfect moment and go the hell out of there. 7. Approach people that are at pretty much the same level of gear you are. Don't think with this western countries socialist mentality "I'm going to help this fresh spawn", the guy will stab you in the back sooner than later. If the encounter seems unbalanced it may turn bad, the strong will tend to despise you, considering you as an easy target to test his new assault rifle on and the weak will only see you as a quick way to gear up. It may just be a game, but the lack of police or justice in DayZ brings back in all of us the same feeling of insecurity forcing us to do bad things in order to survive.

I still haven't found my favourite AK101 and other things like ammo boxes but I'm not too far from the gear I had before the Great Wipe.

Hmm I love this idea, could be something like this: No weapons in hand: left-click: punch right-click: kick Melee weapon in hand: left-click: normal attack right-click: block'n'push Firearm in hand: left-click: shot right-click: stock hit (could be useful to knock out a player) Right now, right-click with firearm zooms in for better targeting but this could be done with the mouse wheel and interaction with objects could be done only through the keyboard.

Since 0.49, and i speak about the server on which i usually play, everyone is looking to get their military gear back and as it s way harder to find assault rifles, attachements and mags they re all hanging around NWAF killing each other.

Then you were lucky to have someone taking care of your rifle. For us it was clear at the moment we received the assault rifle at the arsenal that we were responsible and would be held responsible for anything bad that could happen with our personnal rifle. Each infringement to security rules that were considered not too serious were punished by things like running around the stadium or stay still the whole afternoon with your full pack on your back. When ammunition were involved and a soldier was doing something stupid like leaving a mag loaded in the baracks it was usually 3 days of jail. My platoon once had to stay a full afternoon still with full pack on our back from 13:00 to 18:00 under a heavy sun just because a guy of our platoon arrived 5 minutes later than the schedule. He was that kind of guy a bit lost in space and after this afternoon we told him he should give up because he wasn t a soldier, he was some kind of Steve Urkel, and it wasn t the first time we were punished because of him. He told us that his father was a colonel and that he wanted to prove his dad that he was a bad ass too. That night we did a "full metal jacket" operation on him. I guess it really depends in which weapon you are, some have harsher rules than the others. I m not that proud of the full metal jacket thing but the guy constatly sent us to fuck off, he wasn t caring about the platoon so we had to educate him.

I took out two heavily armed guys with my firefighter axe!
MaxTheSurvivor replied to BaBooN671's topic in New Player Discussion
I guess it depends what gear you have and how much you ll lose in case you die, in this case the guy had pretty much nothing to lose but an axe. Moreover he was in a military facility and we all know that the trend there is to kill or be killed. -
The War on Wilderness - Reclaiming Myshkino
MaxTheSurvivor replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
That s why i don t even bother looking for a tent, since they re eating all the forests to replace them with towns and city the risk to have your hard won tent found by some guy is too high. The only way would be to have a bigger map, maybe the same as we have now but twice the size so that distances creates a feel of safety as it will take much longer to go from on point to another and thus giving those who want to build a safe haven the possibility to do so. -
The "please wait" thing can be solved by pressing "ESC" and choosing another server, some servers seem to take an eternity to log you. The "You re dead" thing seems strange when you re a fresh spawn, if you re not a fresh spawn it means you logged off in a place you shouldn t have and someone killed you when you came back. The ruined pants while going upstairs seems odd, if you could provide a video this could be helpful. About the melee weapons, the only weapons you should look for are the axes and pickaxe anything else could lead to disappointing death.

Nice you decided to share our crazy DayZ, remember "they all want to kill, do it before they do".
