    The Troubling Issue of Magazines

Balance > Realistic Probability I agree with the OP (pyeayouknowme). Word. Firstly, I think that the 75 round drum magazine is stupid. It shouldn't be in the game. Finding 75 bullets in a SINGLE LOOT SPAWN is ridiculous, especially since the guns that use it are extremely common. People need to look at this with some level of perspective...a drum magazine, which can spawn in jeeps all over the map, gives you these three things... - seven and a half full clips for the SKS... - fifteen full magazines for the carbine... - 7.5 seconds of fully automatic fire from an AKM... You get lucky with a single loot spawn, and boom. You're set. Power should be spread out, looking for things should be stressed. Ammo should be the primary concern of balancing here, I think. Finding weapons should be balanced with the notion that you have to constantly balance the Risk and Ease of Access with these guns with their Fuck Shit Up Potential (That's FSUP). Even though it's more "realistic" (The dirty video game "R" word...) that a military weapon have a magazine with it, giving the same advantages to weapons with a greater FSUP like the AK101 and the AKM is just a bad game decision. Think back on every time you found an AKM or an AK101 without a magazine... "I have a weaker, but functional weapon with me, but...I could drop my current working gun and take the risk of going unarmed and hope I find a magazine and ammo for this even better gun..." THIS should be the DayZ weapon mantra! Not "I bet I can apply for a Blackwater Private Security job in an hour after spawning." There are, of course, a myriad of ways to fix this. I have no problem with weapons being easy to find so long as ammunition is rare. I would relish the idea of making it about 10% easier to find weapons in their respective spawns but have ammunition be found in about 50-75% less quantities at a time.

    Not really a survival game

...aaaaaand look at the topics started days before the .49 hits stable.

    Rework of cities and places

The idea of walking down the street of a town and finding wild edible plants growing is a welcome prospect.
  4. People are curious things, and from what I have seen with them...taking advantage of people's curiosity can yield tactical advantages.
  5. DayZ should not have a backstory. Maybe some little details here and there, little clues...but DayZ and Chernarus is, in a way, very mystical. Remember the first time you played? No map, just...wandering around, every bend of the road and every hill was a new sight and a mystery was around every corner? I know that, as good as it has to have a map, the magic of discovery is gone now. It's like Skyrim. The first character you have is always the most magical, since you don't know anything about the world you're jumping into. Chernarus is the same way. DayZ doesn't need to go the way of Dead Space, which is a perfect example of how trying to explain things that should remain a mystery only ruins things. The more you learn, the less you fear, the less wonder you have. Understanding leads to comfort. Chernarus and the mythos of what happened there should neer be explained, only left for players to imagine for themselves without hope of catharsis.

    September Rant Topic.

Just rename this thread: This Game Isn't What I Want It To Be Fast Enough For Me

    September Rant Topic.

I enjoy playing DayZ, and I think the finished product will be fantastic.

Fully Kitted for the First Time!

There are no friendlies in Military Bases and Junkyards. The sooner you learn that, the sooner you start learning to look in the jeeps and pickup trucks.

    I've lost alot of blood...

    No firearm after 15 hours?
  10. This happened just this night, playing a game of DayZ, being all sneaky n' such...then BAM! Is this a hack or a glitch? I've heard of hacks that work just like this, so...I'm curious.

So where have all the Mosins gone?

No offense. But I don't believe you.

    Very Disturbing Zucchini Glitch

Fuck the zucchini. How the hell are you getting that kind of framerate?
  14. A friend and I were talking about clothing beneath clothing. We both thought that you should be able to have something light underneath something else, but it wouldn't let you use it for storage. All it would do is give you a little more damage protection.
  15. I don't understand the message of your post. I think it's "In real life there are solutions to concerns in DayZ, the video game on the computer." You do know I'm talking about the video game, right? DayZ? The game that this website is devoted to? The game on the computer? That you play? I'm talking about the video game. Not real life. Once the update hits soon, players who are used to soldiering up with all that equipment are going to have to arm themselves with water bottles and a change of clothing, too. I'll relish that, personally. I like looking like a badass, but this game needs a focus on survival in addition to the inevitable PvP that will occur. I certainly don't "hate" military clothing. I hate how wearing that kind of gear doesn't have any negative effects on your mortal human being character in a survival game that is going to be filled with consequences for every decision. Or at least...it should. When you're tracking somebody or ready to journey into the wild grey yonder, DayZ needs to always nip at the back of your head with the omnipresent needs of mortality. You should always be thinking to yourself... "You need water and food before you trek to Svetlo" or "You're pinned down by another player on the hill...but you're thirsty so you have to do something soon" or "There's another player in that building over there...but you're about to starve, bro". I understand that there are realistic solutions to a myriad of survival issues one might experience in a world like Chernarus. But I'm talking about the video game here. We had to wear a pair of black BDU's in Search and Rescue here in Arkansas, we'd treck through the woods, the hills, the Ozarks for miles and miles in every kind of weather you could imagine. I'm an Eagle Scout, I hiked and camped in the woods every month for nine years of my life. I understand layering. I understand removing and adding clothing when it is necessary. But that's in real life. I understand if the rules of reality aren't at play in this video game, only representations of those rules in very basic implementations. And I think that's good. Fantastic, even. I don't mean to hate on you or anything, I just don't really understand the point of bringing up all the real life ways to fix problems in DayZ that DayZ will not allow you to do. But I'd love to have a discussion about it.

    death & your items

If you kill a person and you look at their gun, you can loot just their gun and it will show all the items that the player was wearing, even though the body itself is gone. #justdayzthings

    Friendly? oh please..

I have over three hundred hours and I still can't ever be sure who is friendly and who isn't.

So where have all the Mosins gone?

Mosins can be found on the backs of brown pickup trucks as well. Never forget to check the vehicles. There are two types of pickups...one has the trailer door hanging diagonally from the back. These spawn loot in the form of backpacks, food, magazines, residential weapons, clips, ammunition... But the brown trucks that have the pipe in the bed never spawn loot. Know the difference, always check the right one.
  20. We aren't talking about clothes? That's odd...since the OP mentions them and they are important facets of what people consider to be an "end game character's" gear. Don't tell me what a Topic is about when the OP mentions something that I'm talking about. Capisce? Lovely. Wearing full military gear makes complete sense...when you're in the military with a military's worth of equipment to support you. Not in a post apocalyptic world where the next clean bottle of water should be as much of a concern as the amount of bullets in your weapon. Don't tell me we aren't talking about clothing in a thread about end game gear when the gear that you wear on your back is directly determinant in your physical condition, which is determinant on your ability to not die or become incapacitated to the elements. Your gun only affects your survival when you fire it or when somebody sees you holding it. Clothing on your back is a survival element that is always at play, every second of every minute of every hour that you play, regardless of what other players are doing and regardless of what they think about you. You say that you're not a "cod kid" but all you seem to be focused on is "mah military grade assault rahfles" and not "What should I be wearing?", which is...oddly not a concern in Call of Duty games I have noticed. Just an observation.
  21. That's right...you run around in your military coat and pants, assault vest, ballistic helmet, gas mask, combat boots and gloves, and keep an assault rifle and a fireaxe on your back and see how long you sprint around with your server hopping gear buddies in the Chernarus sun without getting hyperthermia. Show us how 2 endgame while you're passed out on the ground from overheating. Bring on the .49 update. It's time to separate the DayZ players from the Call of Duty ones.
  22. You don't have a right to demand anything from the developers of DayZ.
