The Mosin Nagant.

Civilian gun manufacturers definitely make camouflaged versions of different weapons, so I think this would be a good addition to the game.

If the negatives of being able to soak up more damage balance it out, I'm not fully against the idea. I'm really not. But...I'm taking that idea with a whole pitcher of salt. I mean...I should actually start a proper topic about this later. I think I'll do that. Later. After I think about it.

Betrayed, Imprisoned, Saved. Sometimes you just trust the wrong types of people.

Rags would be a horrible idea for currency because they are far too easy to create by themselves. After Persistence is finalized, Rags will be a renewable resource that can be renewed a little too quickly. Everything will respawn, but Rags can be created from an immensely vast amount of clothing spawns. Players could far too easily saturate the "market" with currency, and that's something that's bad. A single shirt can give 4, bandanas give 2...and those items are not uncommon at all. Plus, they can only be stacked to 6, which means they will take up an exorbitant amount of space for, currency-wise, little value. For instance, take the MMO issue that happens over time, which is inflation of in-game currency. Most players accrue in-game money far faster than they spend it, which means that over time the economy of the world changes, gold and silver becomes less and less valuable, so more is needed. That's one reason you have to pay to fast travel and repair your gear in an MMO...it is a money sink to take currency out of the in-game economy so super inflation doesn't occur. One can see that Rags, even though they are used...they simply are not used enough to keep the economy stabilized as well as could be. You might use a couple Rags during a life of a character. I almost guarantee that you've used immensely, vastly more bullets than Rags. Bullets would be a much better alternative to Rags because they are taken out of the economy faster, but also because I believe that the days of tripping over Pristine piles of 7.62 x 51mm ammunition are not going to last. Ammo is almost certainly going to become much scarce, and...just like money in our own lives...we don't like to throw it away foolishly. Perhaps that idea might even stifle somewhat the KOS mentality that this game has with it... Nobody has voted for canned goods yet because they are not stackable and will become, I think, a little too rare to find in enough quantity to use effectively as currency. Burlap sacks/netting, I don't even know why you would consider this as currency. All you can do with it is make ghillie items, and if a player doesn't want ghillie components like myself...then the item has absolutely zero value. To be honest, though...there's no point and no need for currency in DayZ. It is an idea that is pointless in the setting, and players will always trade items based on need, rarity, and usefulness. Shotgun shells have immense value to somebody with a shotgun and no shells. Shells can be of no value to somebody who already has them. Such is the delightful versatility and dynamic quality of the in-game incidental bartering system. EDIT: I have realized in hindsight that any currency system would be possibly rendered pointless in Public Shard servers because of server hopping and players could safely get all items relegated as currency in whatever amounts they wish, bring them to another server, and use them there. This would be just as much of an exploit as server hopping for military gear is. And if you do it, then I hope you stub your toe on a coffee table made of monumental alabaster.

I got an FPS boost, it seems, with the .53 update.

If you have an infrared sight I will mug you.

It's in. A couple of my characters have them.

Has player speed been slowed down to realistic levels now?

So, now that this thread is basically done...anybody seen any good movies lately? -
About 60 FPS in cities.

Get over it.

My Private Shard characters are right where I left them. I slept with my lucky jockstrap on.

The other day, I was about 50m from another player who had stopped behind a wall to log out. I hit him in the helmet with a Mosin round, and the character stood standing, though the helmet clearly became ruined. There was no bleeding or blood effect. All that changed was the the helmet become ruined. Another shot in the head killed him, but I was shocked. I had no idea this was an effect of the helmet. Perhaps it was a bug or glitch, but I would like to get confirmation if anybody else knows about this. If a motorbike helmet will protect you from a Mosin headshot at such a close range...I'll be wearing them whenever I can.

It's Bohemia Interactive's fault that you didn't choose to respawn five minutes into unconsciousness?

Shouldn't you ask where the ponds are instead of where the lighthouses are?

By just holding a gas lamp in your hands you can flick it on and off with the F key.

No, I wouldn't be surprised. It's not a stereotype. It's true. I was a Valet for over two years and we fought over who got to drive the manual transmission cars they were so rare. At one point, I was the only person who could drive them. We would go days and days without seeing one, and this was at the largest capacity hotel in the entire state.

My advice concerning computer performance in DayZ is basically: It'll get better. Game isn't optimized at all. Improvements are incoming. Wait and see how things play out before spending money to upgrade a computer based on performance in DayZ.
-
Good. Make all the vehicles manual transmission. Encourage my fellow Americans to actually learn something.
-
Leave the computer on and starve.

10 and 20 liter capacities? Camel player model confirmed.

That's called blinking.

thoughts on loot spawns / volume of drinking swigs
Rags! replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
There are two ways to look at the system of hydration and consumption right now... 1) Food is very effective, but must be made rarer as a result. 2) Food is not very effective, but there is more of it around. Each one of these has its merits, yes. But...without a proper persistent loot spawning and re-spawning mechanic, the way the current system is that almost all servers use, which is a replenishing of all loot upon a restart, normally this means that the first person in a house gets all the goodies, and if you're second...that's too bad. Entire towns can be looted bare by a couple players of anything useful and it won't replenish itself until a server restart. The reason that Option 1 isn't being used, I think, is because you would have a few amount of players with all the food they could ever eat and excess in their inventories...and everybody else starving because they didn't get there first. Option 2 is simply more appropriate for having a large amount of players sharing the same amount of currently limited resources in Chernarus, especially since spawning takes place in a relatively condensed area of the map. Of course, this game isn't finished, so whether you know it or not, we are all testing this mechanic right now in order to find the sweet spot of food spawning/consumption rates. -
It's not about accidentally duping things. It's about banning a player who picked up an item that was dupicated. Dupers will die. It's only a matter of time, and all the items that they duplicate will be taken by their killer or spread out among the group that killed the duper. If I kill a duper, I'm taking his M4. Just because he duped it doesn't mean I shouldn't take it. Even if I knew that his item was "cheated" in, I'm taking it. There is no reason for me to assume that somebody with a better gun than mine is a duper. I'm not going to go around hiding every body of every victim of mine to live in fear that I might one day pick up somebody's duplicated box of 7.62's and get slammed with a ban.
