    Stable Update 0.61.136770

So what's up with the hiking jackets? They are "water resistant" just like the raincoats (mouse-over description). I suspect the raincoat should still be more effective then the hiking jacket but do not know for sure? Does anyone know exactly how long it takes to warm up next to a fire when hypothermic? Should all clothing be taken off to properly warm-up? What am I missing when trying to lite a fire in the log-cabin houses in the fire place? I didn't get an option to start a fire in the fire place. Thanks.

    2016 In Review

DayZ has really come far this year. You guys have done an amazing amount of work on the game. I cannot believe there are still people out there accusing Bohemia of forgetting about DayZ when the game itself is proof that you guys have been working super hard to make an awesome game for all of us to play. Thank you, thank you very much!

    Stable Update 0.61.136770

That was fast? I thought it was going to take half the day? Didn't Hick's say twelve hours? I forget how to change from exp to stable branch? Do I just opt out of beta in the properties tab within Steam? This is great news. Thank you.

    Stable Update 0.61.136770

Hey Ed, That makes sense (if you hear the wolves you're toast. They are coming for you!). I was in Turovo a few days ago looting the small town. I peeked out of a garage and saw a pack of wolves chasing some dude. I laughed of course, then realized it might be a good idea to get out of Dodge. Anyway, I ran up the hill towards the small altar structure, checked it for loot and then crossed the ridge to the main road below (the large main road that runs below Turovo and Novod). Almost as soon as my feet touched the asphalt I heard the wolves howling and barking. I turned my head and sure enough, an entire pack was on my heels. It had to be the same pack that was chasing that guy earlier but it had only been around three or four minutes since I had seen the pack chasing him? Regardless, they were now on me and the log cabin pub/tavern was at least a kilometer away. I somehow managed to fend them off while running for the pub. When I reached the pub I closed the front and back doors and caught my breath. Once I collected myself I let in a single wolf at a time and killed it, then let in another and so on. Unfortunately my only weapon was a machete and it wasn't really great for wolf killing. Suffice it to say, after killing three or four wolves I finally died due to blood loss (I had no bandages). It was fun as hell. Wolves have been the single greatest addition to DayZ. They have made the landscape truly dangerous, as it should be. The infected need to be more numerous and very dangerous, just like the wolves. Peace out.

    Stable Update 0.61.136770

Seriously man? They've been doing a great job in the past few months. And as someone else mentioned they had to create a new engine (or was it a hybrid engine?) in the middle of the project which is a huge feat. That alone caused major delays but the end result is way better performance and a great base to build the game off of (apparently Bohemia is going to use this engine for all their future titles). Games take time, usually around five years for a completed game. We're just on the cusp of hitting beta. It might take six or more months but the devs are finally hitting the ground running. The next step is a new player controller. Once that is implemented we'll see a lot of new animations and overall changes in the game. This is what you bought in to Early Access for. Be grateful that you can play the game and take part in the development of the game. Modding a game is a lot different from building a new engine from the ground up. Show a little respect and be grateful that such a unique game is being developed. DayZ is way different then any other game I have ever played. And somehow it has kept my attention for over two years now, especially since exp .61 came out.

    Stable Update 0.61.136770

Hey Ed, I was trying to be more stealthy while up north. I did a lot less running and a lot of crouching in towns and when traveling through the woods in wolf territory. Do you think that might have had anything to do with me not encountering any wolves? I recall in my last gaming session (last night around 8:30pm-9:00pm) I thought I heard some wolves howling in the distance (sounded like they were at least a kilometer away) but they never showed up (a good thing too, as I was at the northwestern military base). As for the .308 ammo, I'm glad you found some. I found plenty of Winchester rifles, just no ammo! To recap, being stealthy; does it help in regards to not being detected by wolves? I doubt it since they have excellent hearing, but who knows?

    Stable Update 0.61.136770

Exp .61 is amazing. Since the last update though I haven't encountered any wolves and I've been in the north country almost exclusively. Is it down to luck/averages that I haven't encountered any wolves or did the latest patch make the wolves rarer? I hope that isn't the case as the wolves really make this game great. A real threat, unlike other games where the wolves are easy to kill and there's only a single wolf. Wolves should be super tough and hard to kill. I love .61 and I'm not all that pressed for vehicles to be added back into the mix yet. I'd love to see bikes make it into the next iteration of exp. Is there a list of what works/doesn't work in .61 + all new additions? Has anyone taken the time to make such a list? DayZ is shaping up to be something very special. The developers have done an excellent job. Oh yeah, this latest update seems to have made .308 ammo disappear from the game. Has anyone found any .308 Winchester? Schweinsteiger Lives!
  8. Hey guys, A buddy and I are debating the power of both shotguns in the game. He was hit eight times recently and did not die. His legs were broken, that was the worst of it. We both remember the shotty getting nerfed, then buffed to the point that it was literally knocking trees over. Can someone provide some real evidence that both or one shot gun has been nerfed again? Is the MP-133 more or less powerful then the double barreled shotty? Is the sawed off less powerful (talking about up close and personal, within 15 feet or so)? We're gonna do a test in about an hour to see what happens. The control will be my buddy without any clothing on. I'll shoot him at different ranges, starting off close-in, within five feet to start, then progressively longer distances. Thanks, -Schweinsteiger.

Has the Shotgun been Buffed or Nerfed Recently?

That's just bizarre. Before .57 I was killing people very easily with both of the shotguns. A friend told me they were garbage and said a guy shot him eight times and all it managed to do was break his legs. He sent me some links to YouTube videos to prove his point, problem was, all the videos were six months old or more. That's the reason I decided to test the shotguns in .57. I'm not sure why we're all getting different results with the MP-133?

Has the Shotgun been Buffed or Nerfed Recently?

Okay, Good post Chaingunfighter, I agree. I found a MP-133 in .57 up at the apartments above Cherno. I came across a victim very quickly (low road of the apartments near the tan two-story house, Humvee on the left with another car). I shot the dude six times and all I managed to do was break his legs. I pulled out my Mosin and ended his life with a single shot to the head. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the shot guns unless their damage model is fixed or all you intend to do to another player is break their legs. Besides that, they're worthless.

So no info on the shotties in .57 thus far....damn.

    ---ATTENTION ALL SERVER HOSTERS---

I disagree. What's the point of a forum if not to discuss and spread the word on things like this? Because of this thread other people might make an effort to help stop server abuse. Not sure why you're always raining on everyone's parade man? You can still do your job without the jackboots.

    To the Whiners...

Yeah, we haven't seen a post like this before.

    Status Report - 09 Jun 2015

I think you're missing the point man, this is a very rough outline of how things may flesh out, just as Brian said, it isn't concrete. The devs will gather data and change things based on what the data is telling them. Not to mention there is still a chance to find high end items outside of red zones (perfect example, there will not just be a single red zone like we saw on the example map). You need to relax a little and give things a chance to naturally progress. In the end we're all going to get the game we want (that's the whole point of allowing people to create mods).

    Status Report - 09 Jun 2015

Yeah, I'll call bullshit on that statement. When was the last time you murdered someone in cold blood my friend? Last week, last month, two years ago? It just cracks me up how people imagine (key word is "imagine") they would react in a real world situation without ever having been even close to such a situation in normal life. Killing is hard for the great majority of people on planet earth, it isn't something most of us can do in a "New York Minute". If my son was starving I wouldn't necessarily murder another human being so he could live. If I had to do something like that it certainly wouldn't be easy by any means.

    [Logs] "Unknown Entity"(id=Unknown)

It means you waited too long to loot the body. It might even have something to do with the dead player hitting the re-spawn button, then after that player spawns back in the game, his dead body will register as "unknown entity".

    First person emptiness?

The devs are working on the problem (seeing people over walls). It was in the developer's status report about a month or two back. Personally, I like seeing my character. It makes the game more immersive for me. I think you make a good point here (Sure the game is designed as a first/third person game but in reality enabling third person makes it a third person game as it just gives you more information). It does tend to split the community in two, but people do it by choice. No one has an unfair advantage since third person view is available to everyone.
  18. Schweinsteiger

    First person emptiness?

You just solved your own problem. If people aren't on the coast then you should migrate. Loot seems to work fine when I play. I have an AK74U and a repeater, a sweet green mountain backpack (which is filled with awesome gear) green cargo pants and a nice jacket. You need to change with the game.

    First person emptiness?

Why is .55 no fun at all?
  20. Schweinsteiger

    More than anything

It has something to do with the zombies and desync. In experimental all those ambient sounds are pretty much gone now.
  21. The prime source for cordage would be from sinew (for bows and arrows, sewing leather together, etc.). Native Americans would use intestines as a foodstuff (Lakota men would each take an end of the Buffalo's intestine and start eating to see who could reach the center first). The intestine of the Buffalo were prized because they were filled with sweet grass and were tasty. Hunting - I agree, it could be harder but it all depends on the encounter. If the animal sees or smells you first then the difficulty increases. If you see the animal first then the opposite may be true. The key word is "may", because it all depends on the situation. If you're hiding in the bush (whether it be a tree or an actual bush, rocks, brush, etc.) then you have a huge advantage if an animal wonders by. If you're in a field without any real cover it may be much more difficult to stalk the animal. In real life hunting can be both easy and hard, it all depends on the situation. Resources from the animal you kill - I'm not sure how far the devs plan to take things but it would be nice to have a more sophisticated system to deal with all the different uses of a particular animal. So far, what we can do with tanned hides are very limited. I'd love to be able to craft a sheath for a hunting knife, a larger water bladder, things like that. We should definitely get more meat, and we should be able to make Wasna (also called pemmican) and smoke the meat, dry it for jerky, etc. Good ideas all around I think. The map is going to need to be expanded at some point so we can make realistic camps, and with a larger map comes more people per server too (just as they have been testing in .56). -Schweinsteiger.
  22. Awesome! By the way, the fat lasts when you cook with it. I think each use depletes it by 20%. The large gas canisters will cook steaks faster then the small ones. I burnt my steaks because I used the large canister for too long (I believe they would have been done by using less then 15% of the large canister). Next time I use the large canister I'll check the meat frequently. I'm thinking when 10% of the fuel has been used the steaks should be cooked perfectly. Either way, I need to time it so I have a good idea of how long it takes depending on what I am using. I do know that crops take about 20 minutes to mature. Good tip concerning the plan material. Now I understand why it didn't work when I tried to add it to the farming tiles.
  23. Hey Ebrim, The cooking pot needs either water or fat to work properly, that much I know for a fact, so make sure you add water or fat the next time you cook some meat (unless, of coarse, you use a sharpened stick, and if you do use the stick, make sure the weather is cold or there is a lake nearby or you will suffer from hyperthermia). Hyperthermia - I did cool down slightly by removing my jacket and that made the "very hot" notification turn to just "hot". I didn't try removing all my clothes and equipment, for fear of losing them to a glitch, but that might have worked. I stayed "hot" up until I jumped into a small pond in Novy Sobor Fish trap - I didn't realize I needed to be near the sea (I was trying to fish in that small pond behind the train tracks in Kamyshovo) nor did I think of putting a worm in the trap (feel a bit stupid now). As to wading in the sea and deploying the trap. Do you have to stand right where you deploy the trap and wait, or can you walk back to shore, wait a few minutes, then walk back to the trap and check it? Fishing pole - Do I need to be at the coast (the sea) or will the fishing pole work in small ponds, lakes, and rivers? I appreciate the help.
  24. Okay, when I crafted the fishing rod I wasn't aware that I needed a shoulder spot open. I likened it to cutting an ashwood stick. I thought the rod would fall to the ground and I could then just pick it back up. What about the rabbit snare though? Shouldn't it have appeared in my backpack? As for the fish trap, it was the first time I ever crafted one. When I held it in my hands there was no scroll option available. Same results when it was in my backpack. I even put the fish trap on my hotbar and still received no joy. I've been moving away from canned goods lately, since I expect the game to become more dependent on wilderness survival. I've always hunted though and it seems things have changed there also. I remember the animals giving way more steaks then they do now, maybe the guts and the fat account for the reduction in meat? I've used the fat for cooking (in the cooking pot on a gas stove). I once ate both the guts and the fat and got pretty sick. Someone told me the fat is good to eat but after that experience I really don't want to take the chance. Maybe it was the deer guts that made me sick? Can the fat be eaten safely? Thanks, -Schweinsteiger.
  25. Hey Ebrim, No, I've played DayZ long enough to realize that you need empty inventory slots for certain things. And if you don't have an empty slot then the item drops on the ground in your immediate area. It may very well have been a problem with the server for all I know, I'm just saying that those traps shouldn't have disappeared out of existence, they should have dropped to the ground. I tried it several times, with ample inventory space and received no joy my friend. So, what's your take on it then? I guess I'll try again and report back on what happens.
