It's funny, I was a bit critical of .55 but after playing it for a few days I really came to like the challenge. Then I log in yesterday and loot is literally hanging from the trees. No more challenge at all, weapons everywhere and morons in camo hiding behind every treee again.

Hey everyone, I had a good time playing .55 the past few days. Finally got geared up after heading off the coast, up through Sved and Novo and out to the west. Found a sweet PK 73 (I think that's what it's called?) and some other really cool gear. Food was tough to find but it's around, so no big deal. People were right, the game being made a bit more difficult does add to the overall experience and enjoyment. Unfortunately I broke my leg climbing down a deer stand ladder. No big deal, I just made a splint and went on with my business. Found myself in Starry Sobor a bit later in the afternoon and got into a little trouble with the infected. As most veteran players know, Starry has a few more infected then most other places on the map. Anyway, a crazy bitch was chasing me and I was trying to get a little distance between her and I so I could shoot her with my trusty sub-machine pistol. Of course all the running drew a few more infected and it forced me to climb one of the ladders on the back of the little food stands found in towns and cities. I tried to wait the infected out and at one point I thought they had left. I was wrong and I was getting impatient so I decided to climb down and just shoot them all up. I had my weapon in my hand, went towards the ladder, waited for the "climb ladder" icon to appear, then proceded to climb down. Instead of climbing down the ladder the game glitched (I assume) and I died, losing my beautiful little PK 73 and some really cool gear. I'm assuming this was some sort of game glitch? Or did I somehow break my freaking neck climbing down a ladder that is only six feet off the ground? If it's a glitch then damn, I accept that, this being an alpha and all but it still sucks ass. Maybe next time I'll manually put away my gun and then climb down, even though the game does it automatically (puts your weapon away for you) when you click the climb icon. Anyway, beware fellow survivors. It takes longer to loot up and find really good gear. I don't want to see anyone else get majorly disappointed like I did after some three or four hours of looting due to a stupid glitch.

What about the new renderer?
Schweinsteiger replied to bandithunter123's topic in General Discussion
The new render will indeed give us a FPS boost, at least that's how I understood it from reading what the devs wrote. It may not be a huge increase but there will be an increase when it is implemented in May. After that, like another poster said, they will begin to optimize as they go along, hopefully resulting in much better overall performance. -
Maybe, but not likely. I climbed many ladders and never had it happen to me twice in one session (the first time I broke a leg). Either way I will be mindful of that next time, thanks.

Did anyone see a Mosin, Izh or FNX45 since 0.55 global loot update?
Schweinsteiger replied to SonicSonedit's topic in General Discussion
Haven't seen or had an FNX .45 in a very long while, possible since .48-.49. I love that pistol too, it just feels and sounds so awesome and 15 rounds of .45ACP is pretty sweet! -
That was uncalled for (the H1Z1 assumption). Talking about insulting a man! (that's the type of elitism people really find offensive bro) No, I like DayZ more for both obvious and not so obvious reasons. The infected are bugged right now, not overly aggressive. I don't think the food issue is a serious one, I can survive and yeah, you're right, it isn't a secret as to the direction the devs said they were taking. Either way I'll adapt and probably be better off for it. They already made most of their money so they can pretty much make the game that Dean invisioned. Peace out hommie!

Truck Tires pops 3 feet away from the tree

These types of responses are ridiculous. Get it through your head, it is a game. We could all name two dozen unrealistic things about Dayz in less then a minute. It isn't any fun starving in less then an hour (how realistic is that) and there's nothing fun or "hardcore" about that at all, it's just stupid. For a game in which fanboys cry about the realism it isn't very realistic. And no, people don't play Bohemia games because they're so realistic (did I mention they aren't very realistic yet?) they play them because SOME elements are realistic, like how the guns handle and how good the graphics look, etc. Telling someone a game isn't for them is just foolish and rude. If they want to purposely tank DayZ and develope it for a handful of players (there's lots of money to be made catering to a handful of gamers who think they're somehow elite because they can pick more apples then everyone else - NOT) then by all means devs, keep going in this unrealistic direction. If you want to make money and produce a fun game don't make it a grind fest, fix the infected and think out of the box. Thus far, even though I really like Dayz, it isn't super-original to begin with at the moment, Its still a loot and shoot game for the most part (and I've done plenty of hunting and crafting, you can only hang out in the wilderness for so long). The best solution I see at the moment is server rule sets like they're using over at H1Z1. Believe it or not you can please the majority of your players and still give the "hardcore" guys a great experience. We just want infected that work properly and some original game content (something other then just loot and shoot). If DayZ is truly a game where you make your own story then we need the tools to do so, don't make the landscape so unforgiving that it becomes a chore and a bore to survive. Again, no one starves to death in an hour or two. It should take way longer in game. P.S., "Just how hard is DayZ supposed to be? What is the targeted experience here? How valuable should items, and thus what I carry be to me as a player? I like to think we're pretty up front about exactly what DayZ is and is supposed to be, and as we move closer to 1.0 more and more of this will begin to take shape. Once, when asked how valuable tools and resources should be to a player - on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is finding everything you need without issue, and 10 is elation over finding a can of beans (I'm paraphrasing here) Dean was quoted saying an emphatic "10"." Good luck catering to a handful of players then (and by the way, Dean is gone). If finding a can of beans is supposed to make me excited then this game is definitely headed into the wrong direction. Most of us aren't saying or even asking for an easy game where everything is handed to us, but there has to be much more purpose in this game. No one wants another H1Z1 around here, but we do want a game that's fun to play. And super-quick infected (why the hell is the game called DayZ if there aren't any zombies?) with screwed up hit boxes and teleportation skills isn't what I would call hard or difficult, I'd call it all bugged up. Don't be so stubborn (devs) that you stop listening to your player base. Are you making the game for us or for yourselves?
-
I heard zombies are glitched, hard to kill. Guns are more random but you can go to the airfield and find them still. Food, I have no idea. Probably the tent city would be a good place to start if you're in the area.

I know there are several causes for these issues. Some are by design, others are down to bugs that will inevitably be fixed at some point. Like I said, this isn't a I hate DayZ post, I’m just really passionate about it that's all, & from someone who played the Mod from May 2012 I think I have some right to be a little pissed. (Not at the bugs...with the game direction). Lets face it, 1pp is pretty much dead. No one wants to play it...everyone would prefer the advantage of looking around pine trees and over walls, though they’ll say its because they want to see their character. (Its not). I get that your post isn't a hate thread as I felt the same way a few months ago and I'm sure the more I play, that feeling will come back (because of rinse and repeat problems). I'm hoping the developers are going to add some dynamic events and really put some thought and depth behind them (not just find a map, read it and then pick up some free loot like H1Z1's worn letters, at least they are trying though). There has to be more to do then just loot up and look for people to kill. They are working on hordes of infected and increasing the overall number of infected, that will go a long way in making this a better game but it definitely isn't enough to keep the game interesting over a long period of time. Base building (or partial building as the devs talked about) will be cool too, along with more vehicles and other things but it still isn't enough to keep most of us happy. Hopefully we'll see some really creative solutions and in the end DayZ will be a great game. As for your comments on third person, I find your assumption a bit offensive. I like 3rd person a lot, specifically because I can see my character. Who are you to say my reason for loving 3rd person is because I can see around corners? Don't get me wrong, that is a nice benefit of 3rd person but the devs are actually working on eliminating that problem as we speak. It was in the developer notes and updates section. How in the hell are supposed to enjoy the animations in 1st person? Personally I use both, 3rd person most of the time and 1st person when I need to pick up a bunch of loot or I'm in a combat situation. And it really isn't such a big advantage when everyone has the same capability (looking around corners and such). Let's face it, 1st person doesn't do great job at modeling the way we see in real life anyhow. There isn't much periphrial vision and when you look to the left and to the right you can hardly see beyond your own shoulders. In real life, when you turn your head you can almost see directly behind you anyway. We can talk about realism but there is always going to be a disconnect in a video game so arguing about 3rd and 1st person, there really isn't a big difference. Think about how long it takes to eat some canned food. The game doesn't really model that accurately at all and I'm glad. Some things should be priorities concerning realism and other things should be left as is (taking a shit would be funny but beyond that it really shouldn't be something we would have to do more then once or twice every few days). Shoes wear out, that's cool, yet one of the infected can take out a leather jacket and ruin it in one hit. Not very realistic. At least the devs do a good job (for the most part) when it comes to weapon damage models. In H1Z1 most of the weapons are a joke. It takes a whole magazine to kill someone with a 1911 and the hunting rifle is a joke. In DayZ most of the weapons are pretty awesome, both in the way they look and feel and sound and in the damage they do. I like the idea that a well placed shot from a Mosin or a Shot gun will kill another player. I don't want to have to shoot them 500 times to take them out. H1Z1 is a bit too arcady, though it isn't a bad game DayZ, in the end, blows it away. Take it easy man.

Hey man, I disagree, giving the price really doesn't say much at all about the PC you plan on buying. A lot of us built our own gaming/computing rigs and parts/boards vary to such a degree that just throwing out an arbitrary number is almost meaningless. Specifications are very important (not necessarily for DayZ since it is extremely limited, i.e., it doesn't take advantage of our hardware at the moment). How much RAM and what type of processor/cores/speed. What GPU are planning on buying, NVidia or AMD, solid state harddrive (?) etc.. For example, DayZ isn't taking advantage of more then two cores (what I have been told, might only be taking advantage of a single core for all I know) on our CPU. DayZ isn't taking full advantage of the power of our GPU's at the moment. All of this will be worked out during Beta when they begin to optimize the game. DayZ does seem to take some advantage of the amount of RAM a computer has, but again, only to a certain degree. I built my PC back in 2008 and it runs DayZ fairly well though I'd definitely be a lot happier with better FPS in cities and during some combat encounters. I did upgrade my GPU a year or so ago (NVidia GTX 650 with 2gigs of RAM) and that allows me to play all of the games I am interested in. I think you'd be much happier building your own rig. It's fairly easy to do as long as you take your time and pay attention (if you're a beginner, for more advanced users it doesn't take very long. The worst of it is the time it takes to install the operating system and all the programs and files you use/need). You're basically mounting a mother board and a power supply into a case (plus fans and such), plugging in/mounting a processor (you'll need thermal paste before plugging the CPU in). Everything after that is just plugging in memory and smaller boards or whatever other specific hardware you may need for your personal uses/tastes. (Oh yeah, you'll have to enter some values in the BIOS for your CPU and memory, especially if you plan to overclock, but it's fairly easy). You might not have to buy a monitor if you use your old one. You might even be able to get away with keeping your old case and your periphrials (mouse and keyboard). All of that should bring the price down significantly, you could probably save anywhere from $500 to $700 and have a way better rig then you could ever buy in store or off the Internet. Either way, good luck.

I found five trucks within maybe an hour, two days ago, a red one, a blue one, and three gray trucks. Before that I couldn't find one to save my life. I wrecked one, got another stuck in a tree and a stone wall, gave one to a buddy, lost one to clipping into the ground and really can't remember what happened to number five.
-
Took the main highway west in my truck, past Prison Island by a mile or so. I decided to go off-roading at about 70km and me, my gear and my truck clipped right into the earth. I was pissed as I had all my favorite gear on and had finally found a truck.

Hey all, I've noticed that when I change servers different things happen to my character: On one server (not hardcore, just regular) I have all my gear. I change to another server and my character is on the coast, like I just re-spawned (died).[not a hardcore server either] When this happens I exit quickly, pick a new server and I'm back to my old character with all my weapons and supplies. Sometimes it takes a few tries until I get my old character back. Apparently I'm missing something concerning the servers? Why do some servers make me a fresh Bambi while others will spawn me with all my gear? I'd really like to know so I can avoid spawning as a Bambi when I was never killed in the first place. Also, do these Bambi servers effectively give us a third character to play (like hardcore does)? Thanks, -Schweinsteiger!

Banning for inappropriate behaviour...
Schweinsteiger replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
Anyone caught being racially abusive (showing real hate, not the occasional joke) should have to take a racial sensitvity test in order to get back in the game. That would be hilarious. -
Hey guys, So far so good. I've found duct tape and it can be used (it has a percentage value now) though I haven't used it yet. I found some wire, not sure what it will be used for (maybe barricading?). Shoes seem fine, no super speedy wearing out for me yet. New running animation makes you look a bit like a monkey running down the street but it's cool. New running animation with the .357 is pretty cool (one-handed). Still haven't found a lock-picking set yet, I didn't see any new weapons but I was only on for about 40 minutes and wasn't really looking. The Mosin cheat is gone. No more super-steady aim when walking forward so that's good. Temps seem fine. I got cold, started shaking so I switched to a puffy jacket and I warmed up instantly. Share your thoughts. -Schweinsteiger.

I Rewrote my DayZ Trading Platform Based on Feedback
Schweinsteiger replied to tills13's topic in General Discussion
I'm sorry bro but I must be slow or something. I don't see how to initiate a trade or start a new trade. There is no clear indication of how to do it. I did hit the little magnifying glass and typed that I wanted a lock picking set but nothing happened/showed up on the board that I was looking for it. What exactly do you think I'm doing wrong? Thanks, -Schweinsteiger. -

Schweinsteiger replied to tills13's topic in General Discussion
Hey Tullsy, It was steam telling me that, but only when I clicked on the log-in button. It's odd. EDIT: I got it. I forgot the first part of my Steam password! Either way, still having issues with the trades, see my newest post Tullsy. -

So, how do I trade? Maybe I'm not logged in or something? The site looks much better, good job man. -
So, are vehicles coming in 0.50 or not?
Schweinsteiger replied to haxborn's topic in General Discussion
Wow! You're really deceiving yourself. You want it so bad you've convinced yourself it is imminent when it's not. We will not see vehicles for at least two more months, i.e., after the new year. That's my estimate/opinion. It would be nice if they arrived sooner but don't kid yourself, think later rather then sooner. If you keep your expectations down you be less likely to be disappointed. -
Do we really need more towns?
Schweinsteiger replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
Yes, we need more towns with different buildings and new content. We also need a bigger map with more interesting wilderness areas and more ways to manipulate the environment. We need caves and underground environments, raging rivers and bees, lots of bees to sting the shit out of people! :)
