I can't believe you went out of your way to stay ignorant. Mosin uses a clip, so dies the SKS. The AK's use magazines, as does the M4 and the MP5, the PM 73, etc.

Server hopping? Is there a solution? If not, what else....
Schweinsteiger replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
I don't know, I like being able to server hop. What happens if you get caught on a server that disappears or the population takes a serious dive? It's nice to be able to move to another server. I know people take advantage and server hop to get weapons at military bases and such, but people like that will always find a way around the system. I was talking with some dude in TS while playing Dayz with a buddy last night and he started telling me how to dupe items in DayZ. I don't cheat so it was irritating to hear how these guys do it. Why can't people play a game without cheating? -
What "Pustoshka" military base? Are you talking about the tent city behind Myshkino?

I hit the jail in Electro and saw a bear trap sitting right in the front door. It looked like there was plenty of room to get by so I tried. It didn't work out too well as it broke my legs. So I crawl into the second room on the left (storage room) and luckily I find a prestine morphine pen! As I'm injecting the morphine some bozo runs down the staris with a shotty and blasts me twice! The fool misses from six feet away! I mash my finger on the number 1 on the hotbar to icepick him in the head (not realizing that I forgot to set my new melee weapon back to position one). The guy pulls out what looks like a Makarov and kills me! If not for me forgetting to drag my icepick back on the hotbar the guy would have been toast.

Sucks that the Mosin won't be able to accept the LRS anymore. I hate the PU scope.

Getting stuffed faster than I can drink.
Schweinsteiger replied to jmvars's topic in General Discussion
IS the disease mechanic in game now? Can drinking water from a lake get you sick? Are water purification tabs and charcoal tabs working (along with pain killers and antibiotics)? -
Too bad they don't accept a clip. Anyone actually use the word "magazine" around here or what?

The new dynamic reticle looks nice but is still inaccurate for hipfire :(
Schweinsteiger replied to Anax's topic in General Discussion
I don't agree with you. The new reticle isn't as good as the dot we used to have but I can still hit whatever is in front of me without a problem. I'd really like the dot back but I doubt that's going to happen. My main gripe would be looting things with the new reticle. You have to get it just so in order to pick something up, it's quite irritating. -
Ahh...thank you. If that were the case (being able to put in on your back with everything in it) then people would use it as a backpack. I actually came across two of the blue-gray tents while .55 was active, before the loot became plentiful again. It was the first time I ever found a tent after playing for over a year! I found one tent at Vybor near the brick building with the big smoke stack (right next to the sweat shop) and then a second one on the hill right next to the south military base less then a mile below Vybor. It was set up right near the deer stand. I found some gear inside it and was surprised someone would set up a tent in a high traffic area. It must have been a new player who did that. I'll keep my eyes open for one of the military tents. If the military tent is pitched, will text pop up giving me the option of packing it up like the blue-gray tents do? -peace.

Right, I thought the same thing. It used to be chambered only for .357 but now, after coming back from taking a break I picked one up that used .308. I think the Blaze takes the same cartridge also, it used to take the Mosin rounds (7.62x54). I'm pretty damn sure I'm not crazy and that the repeater now takes .308, unless the devs changed it where it can fire both cartridges, though I doubt that. Again, maybe I'm mistaken, if so I apologize for the confuision.

So basically you empty all your gear into the tent and ditch your backpack huh? Hmm...that's pretty interesting. One more question, those tents look like what I see in the tent cities near military bases or the one out west. How do I distinguish between a regular military tent and one I can actually pick up? I wonder how many of them I've missed by not paying attention?

I agree to an extant. Someone said everything would be looted within a few days and I disagree strongly. Maybe the most obvious places would be looted quickly as most people don't tend to think things through very well. Anyone wonder where all the food, guns, medical supplies, etc. are before they even reach the stores? There are central hubs where the trucks are loaded up at, this is where I would go to. The harbors, the shipping ports, even the factories that make the guns and the gun powder, the survival equipment we would need. In the chaos of such an insane event (people becoming infected with the rage virus; there are no zombies in DayZero) the great majority of people would never even get to the point of looting for survival, they would all become infected, and thus mindless.

Can't wait till .56! I miss the struggle.

Welcome to DayZ, It is possible to run for 30 minutes and see nothing (if you're in the wastelands on the edge of the map). Please, no colored beanies or anything like that! DayZ is supposed to be the anti-game game, so to speak. Minimal UI, permadeath, etc. so the game is as immersive as possible. Once you learn the map things will be a bit easier.
-
So how do you take it with you then?

Thanks for the advice on where to find the military tent. I'm curious, on Wednesdays do we just pack the tent up and then simply leave it on the ground? Or do we have to literally log out of the game while holding the tent in our hands, so as not to lose it during maintainanace?

I wanted to test out the Repeater chambered in .308 (Sorry, I thought I had a Blaze but I was wrong, either way both rifles are one shot kills). First time using some of the newer weapons. Unfortunately it was a guy I had met about ten minutes earlier. If I had realized it was him I wouldn't have shot him. I get paranoid when I see people on top of buildings. Since I had the advantage (I was above him on the hill right below Polana near the train tracks) I decided to take the shot before he shot me. Needless to say the Repeater handled flawlessly! He dropped like a sack of rotten potatoes.

I found two blue tents a few days ago and I was stoked. It was the first time I've ever found a tent (two tents no less!) after playing DayZ since late 2013. Unfortunately I had other pressing matters so I didn't take them with me. What does the military tent look like and where can you find them? Do they hold more items then the little blue tents?

My wife's an Indian from South Dakota. They call it "Wasna" and they tipically used to use the kidney fat from Buffalo, then pounded in choke cherries and wild plumes, etc. I recall some archaeologists found a Lakota (in traditional Lakota territory) food cache filled with a giant ball of Wasna. It was still edible after a good 150 years (it may have been a lot older, I forget). Here's a link on how to make the Lakota version: http://www.tankabar.com/cgi-bin/nanf/public/viewStory.cvw?sessionid=3163cd1a2fd52a6767152cfcc288df47ddad0§ionname=Buffalo%20Nation&storyid=62133 And a quote: "Once the bapa is thoroughly dry, it's mixed with the cherry patties and a little buffalo kidney fat. She said that to make a couple of pounds of wasna, you add about a tablespoon of kidney fat and some cherry juice. "You have to develop an eye for it depending on the texture of the bapa," she said. "Some bapa is really dry so you have to add more fat." Auntie Kay said using buffalo fat was essential to the recipe because using beef fat makes the mixture gel up and can lead to spoiling. "If you were to make wasna in modern days now with cow fat, there is no way any warriors would take it with them for two or three weeks. It would be pretty ripe by then." Bapa is simply dried meat, no frills or marinades. The fat ratio is wrong in the above quote (according to my wife) and the quote does come from a commercial venture (Tanka Bars) a tradition Lakota food. My wife's grandmother also added cornmeal to her wasna and only choke cherries, no cranberries.

I killed a guy with a Blaze a few days ago at the bottom of Novod who was running on top of one of the buildings in the industrial area. It was a good 300+ yard shot, took him out easy.

In the fields to the north-west of Balota, lots of boar's and deer around there.

Really love the PM 73, awesome little machine pistol. Is there a 30 round mag available for it like the MP-5? Oh yeah, looty-tooty-toot-toot-loot!
-
Basebuilding of course, motorcycles, the ability to dig stash holes, the ability to capture the infected (box van maybe) and to use them against other player bases. Cigarettes would be cool too! Cooking without pots (I didn't even know you had to use a pot. Last time I hunted I just placed the meat in the fire kit and cooked it).

What about the new renderer?
Schweinsteiger replied to bandithunter123's topic in General Discussion
Oh well, shit happens. I was hoping for a little improvement. Been playing for a long time, I can wait another year. -
I read the update notes and the dev tracker religiously. It isn't hard to stay in the loop.
