In exp the seeds appear in your inventory after slicing up pumpkins. You can make a hand drill only with oak bark at the moment. Rabbit snares/traps do not currently work in exp, neither does fishing with a fishing pole or using a fish trap. When you craft these objects, they just disappear, nowhere to be found after you've successfully crafted them. If you hunt and are on a summer/spring server, do not use a stick to cook the meat, you'll get hyperthermia and will have to find a lake or a pond and jump in. I've been using the stoves with success. Crafting leather items works fine (not sure why we can't make a water bottle that holds just as much water as a canteen or a PET bottle?). I like the survival aspect but we need more options for sure.

Saw a Youtube video by FrankieonPC, it looked cool so I bought it. I'm a big fan of apocalptic movies, especially movies about zombies or the infected. Seemed natural to want to play a good game based off of one of my favorite genres of fiction. I'm really happy with the development of Dayz even though it has taken a little longer then expected. I'd like to see more crafting in the game, server wide events, and a good balance between PvP and survival. I hope the devs add more uses for animal hides.

Semi-related question: If I switch back to stable branch will my experimental character get wiped? Hey Grizzly Adams, you teach wilderness survival? My family are a bunch of Lakota and they have no problem living off the land. They do it quite comfortably. The key is knowing what you're doing and living like that, not being a weekend warrior "survival guy". Not saying you don't know what you're doing but as you know, there are a lot of people claiming to be survival experts that really have never spent more then a few days in the bush. I'm not an expert by any means, I watch television shows and talk to my relatives. I am handy with an axe though.

Ashwwod trees are all over the place man, they aren't just in Berezino. Try using your scroll wheel more often, I farm all the time. After you've dug your holes then walk up to each hole and scroll for the different options. After you plant then you water your plants.

I have similar setup. A friend and I went through our settings together and I got nice boost in FPS and smoothness using this guide and my friend's knowledge of PC's and gaming.

Concernt T-shirts from the 70's and 80's. You remember, the ones where the sleeves come down to your elbows? That and some tan suede desert boots. Some jean jackets with inside pockets would be cool also.

What's up survivors, So far .56 experimental is pretty sweet (besides the desync and inventory/item/hotbar problems). There are officially hordes of infected in DayZ. The best part is you won't realize it until it's almlst too late! A friend and I were behind Myshkino at the tent city and fired off a few rounds at some lonely infected. Next thing you know the infected were on us like flies on shit! They just kept coming so we kept shooting. Unfortunatrly I only had a P1 (without a mag). I had to reload after every kill. Luckily for me my buddy had a PM 73 and he didn't have to reload after every shot. I wound up on top of one of the camo look out platforms with about twenty or so of the infected milling about near the latter like a barrel of monkeys. After it was all said and done there must have been 40+ zombie corpses lying about. After that we hit the military base southest of Pavlovo. I was inside one of the barracks when a train of zombies decided to pay me a visit. This time I was ready with my trusty repeater and I made quick work of most of the dead (I took eleven down without a problem then had to reload). After I crawled out of the barracks bleeding I decided to run around and axe as many zombies/infected I could find so they wouldn't train us again. It was a really good time. I hope and pray when .56 makes it to the stble branch the zombie numbers will stay high, or even be bumped up a bit. It really makes the game a joy to play. Imagine that! Zombies in a zombie apocalypse! Who would a thunk it? -Schweinsteiger.

They added a few more zeds (like 200 more or so) but you're right, they redistributed what was already there plus a couple of hundred more. Seems like there are more zeds everywhere, so I think the new ones that were added were placed in some of the small towns to increse numbers. Some zeds were taken away from areas people didn't frequent also.

The gunshots are what bring them in and aggro them. Axing them, for the most part and they don't do too much. But when you shoot a gun they try and rip you apart in droves. I got caught in a barracks, very bad situation.

Play the new experiemntal build. The zeds are a bit easier to kill but they come in hordes now (I love you Devs!). A buddy and I were in the tent city behind Myshkino and were literally attacked by about 50 infected. We had to pull out the automatic weapons to survive. I've been waiting for something like this for almost two years. I'm one happy survivor. We hit the Military base southeast of Pavlovo and the same insanity insued. I got trapped in one of the barracks with my trusty repeater and about 15 infected. It was a bloody affair. I then proceeded to axe around 15 more in the surrounding area. If the numbers of infected stay high when .56 is pushed to the stable branch DayZ will have finally passed a milestone, i.e., lots of infected making survivla challenging.

It spawns other places also, police stations and other buildings.

Sure does have something to do with a high server population. You just don't hear those sound glitches on low-pop servers. I haven't heard the devs say they were going to address the sound glitch bug anytime soon. Do you have a source where they said they would be fixing it soon?

I thought the Devs said it would be in May, i.e., this month? Damn is it getting difficult to remain patient.

Any idea when the new renderer will go live?

I was in Cherno last night and found a MP-133 lying in the street near a wrecked car. Not sure but I think that is a genuine spawn for rifles. It was fully loaded too! I'd love to find a military tent.

I hope you're right as I really love the Mosin for sniping. Either way the Repeater is pretty sweet. IS the new 12x scope less powerful then the longrange scope? Someone told me the LR scope was 20x magnification? The PU's magnification blows compared to the LR scope and I really don't like the aiming reticle. Such is life!

I drank from a pond a few days ago and I was good to go. One pond isn't exactly scientific. I wish we knew whether or not all the pills were working. I generally drink from water pumps but you know how DayZ can foil the best laid plans. I was geared up in Balota yesterday, got hit by one of the infected (everyone says they are the infected yet on the devblogs they always say zombie, which is it?) and started bleeding. Went into my inventory and realized I had no rags, no bandages and no sewing kit. My buddy didn't have any of those things either, we both bleed to death, good times. By the way, do you know if there is a chance of infection if you use the sewing kit to patch yourself up? My buddy brought that up yesterday and it sounded resonable.

I disagree. Words have meanings. It's a personal pet peeve of mine. I hate it when people call a magazine a clip, sue me. Same thing goes for "bullets" when in fact, it isn't a "bullet" at all but a cartridge. Apparently one of your pet peeves are when people us an apostrophe when it isn't needed.

Music creeped me out. At least the chainsaws work. Are they always out of gas when you find them?

Thanks but the artice doesn't mention whether or not antibiotics and other similar items are working yet (purification pills, pain killers, charcoal tabs, etc.).
