What exactly makes Standalone so taxing on your system?

I run DayZ on an i3 GTX 650ti 4gb ram. I run about the same frames as you do. I found this video on YouTube, helped me out immensely. Went from running around 20-25 frames to 60-70 in the open, roughly 33 in cities. Try it out. Good luck -

Riot shield+ improvised spear would be pretty sick. An apocalyptic Spartan of sorts. I like it.

I had only been playing a few days, fell off the ship and died. Spawned just south of Svet. Ran into a guy while I was drinking from the well. He seemed pretty cool, so we teamed up for a little bit. He helped me gear up, SKS, ammo, backpack, food/water. He had me follow him to the train tracks where he had a buddy that had just gotten killed and was spawn hopping to get close to him again. I was killed and thanked for the loot. They laughed, I said some things over direct that weren't so nice.. You live and learn.

I honestly don't understand the rush to get vehicles into the game.. Once you do all the work to finally get it operational, and somehow keep it safely stashed somewhere, the game will turn into a speedrunning simulator. You'll get bored, and complain to the devs that you want even more content. I'm perfectly content getting from point A to B on foot. It gives me time to appreciate the game, and how beautiful it really is. Slow down and enjoy everything, no need to rush all the time.

For the moment, a hit to the body is acceptable too. Some weapons just require more hits.

Sometimes it helps to sidestep the initial charge the zombie makes toward you. After you sidestep turn toward it and swing. Usually does the trick.

What about antibiotics and water purification tablets? Infections from cuts/scrapes along the journey could possibly turn into a life threatening situation. And water purification tablets, because in reality, running water wouldn't always be readily available, and drinking pond/creek water that is untreated could be an issue. Though you could boil the water if you're able to get a fire going. But what about a gun and ammo for protection? Never know who or what you'll run into along the way. -
You can still enter the ATC. Just have to find the front door within that building. Take it slow though, the stairs can be hard to find, and you can lose your legs. That has been there since .49 went to stable. I lost my legs about 25 minutes after the servers went live.
