    Persistence sanity check

FIrstly, apologies if this repeats previous questions, I have searched for the answer but to no avail... I feel like I understand the principle of CLE and persistent loot, but am hazy on some of the details in the application of it. So persistence, and all that comes with it. I'd like to find out, among the dayz community, if these following statements are correct. I will use an M4 as an example of rare loot in limited numbers. 1. Only a certain numbers of M4s spawned when the servers restarted after the 0.58 update. For this example lets say x5 on a server. 2. If a player picks up an M4, then a new one will, at some point, spawn again, thus balancing the amount of 'new spawn' M4s to x5. So x5 M4's spawned, one gets picked up, therefore a new M4 will spawn at some point. At this point the total number of M4s on the server will be 6. Correct? 3. If an M4 gets ruined on that server, this will balance the amount of 'new spawn' M4s. So if there are x6 M4s that have spawned on the server, one gets ruined, then will the server will spawn a new one to keep up it's minimum number of x5, or will it not spawn a new one? 4. If all x5 M4s are picked up by players who never return to the server they collected them from, then does that server re-spawn another x5 M4s at some point? This is basically the crux of what i'm trying to figure out, does the CLE follow the players loot and where they collected it from? So if all the M4s are collected by players on a sever they never return to, will that server ever re-spawn an M4 when one of the originals gets ruined? (I know how mad that sounds, but am just trying to get a handle on the loot tables and how they work.) And no, i'm not after an M4, for me it's AKM all the way....! :-)

    Persistence sanity check

Thanks BCBasher, this i'm aware of. I meant the 0.58 update, not a server reset. Personally i'm happy with the way loot is behaving now, just trying get a handle on the new behaviour.

    Persistence sanity check

Indeed. At the end of the day there's some maths controlling this, so somewhere there are numbers controlling the spawn numbers and how they reset / re-spawn / react to player interaction. Genuinely curious about how the rare loot behaves, or rather how it is told to behave...! I was being simplistic in my example, I'm fairly sure every server didn't spawn x5 M4s on the update. Another example; If 50 players, all kitted up with M4s joined a server and all dumped their M4s on the ground (unlikely I know) and logged out, how would this affect the server loot table? That server would register x50 M4s, would it wait for them to degrade to ruined before spawning another? And would the original servers they picked them up from not spawn any M4s until these 'originals' were ruined?

    'Valuable' loot...

(I have searched to see if this suggestion has been made before, but can find nothing, so apologies if this is a repeat of a previous suggestion.) In relation to the immersion and realism concept, the majority of current loot serves some kind of purpose. (Even all those books.) Would it not be, in a post apocalyptic world, for there to be a huge amount of useless items as well. I mean things that would have been perceived as 'valuable' before it all went to hell. So watches, jewellery, money etc... (I'm not suggesting any kind of formal trade system or currency, just items that would be seen as 'valuable'. Now i'm sure most peoples reactions to this idea will be negative, as there would be no direct use for such items in game. In fact my own reaction to this idea was negative, until I thought about it a little more. I think people would collect such useless fripperies as they struggle to come to terms with the new reality of the apocalypse. People would collect the shiny things, taking up valuable space in lieu of more life saving objects. I believe people would try and trade diamond earrings. People would fight to the death over a gold rolex. People would actually collect money. I think such items would provide a good distraction and add to the realism of the sheer amount of stuff that would be loot-able and left laying around in a post apocalyptic world. Would it be that hard to implement? Apart from some artwork these items would have zero function, so no animations or actions required.

Police cars completely gone? HELP GET THEM BACK!

I find police cars and their loot on 3p persistence off private servers. Not sure about persistence on servers, I would assume, like heli crash spawns that dynamic spawns are still bugged.

No one came to solve this problem

I sometimes get no servers displaying, same as the picture. Every time it is down to my internet connection stalling and not a problem with the game.

    Anti-Stab Vest?

Found an anti-stab police vest on top of a police car last week, so they are spawning. (stable private 3p persistence off) It's a cool looking bit of gear, I think it offers a little bit of protection against bleeding, but is fairly useless against firearms. I just wish the damn thing had pockets then it would at least be useful, as it is it's more of a unicorn vanity item... The press vest is much more useful. It offers protection against firearms and has storage. I should try and trade my anti-stab vest, would happily swap it for an MP5k Mag... B)

What gun was your first shooting kill with?

Blaze 95, in double fire mode...
  9. I think I must have been killed while logging off. Can't think of another reason for my character wipe. (I've had char wipes before, but have always seemed to have found myself again. This time, 10 different servers and the same fresh spawn each time. The first time I didn't touch anything or move, just logged out again. Did this another 9 times before accepting my new fate...) So i've come to the conclusion I was killed while logging off. I know I could be wrong and it could have been random dayz character wipe, but I was motionless in a bush for around 5 minutes before hitting escape, so i'm pretty such it wasn't a zombie. Must have been being followed by a good stalker. What are the forum thoughts on this 'tactic' or practice? Personally it ranks as more annoying than random stairs death, but is this an acceptable form of gameplay at the moment? Seems a bit, well cheap and spineless to me...

Now this is how you camo wrap your mosin.

Yeah, I had that too. I removed the wrap, showed up as a single wrap, but it wouldn't re-attach to the mosin.

The good and the bad of 50th patch

I've had this and have been able to recreate it every time. From what I can tell, if you are carrying a 2nd weapon and you move something from your inventory to your hands, (eg matches, bandages etc) you will drop the weapon you're holding and it will appear on the floor at your feet. So far so good. If you then return the item you're holding back into your inventory, (clicking the red cross in the hands box in inventory) the first item, (your 2nd weapon in this case) will automatically appear back in your hands, and remain on the floor. I've found that the weapon you're now 'holding' isn't real, the real weapon is the one still on the floor. Once i'd got over the disappointment of realising that 'auto pick-up' isn't actually a thing, I've taken to manually picking up the 2nd weapon again, like I used to. I've also had attachment weirdness with this glitch too. Sometimes when I pick up my 2nd weapon some or all the attachments are missing. (A 'naked' M4 is a weird thing to behold.) I simply dropped the weapon and picked it up again to fix it. I will submit a bug report soon.

    Can zombies kill animals?

I have searched for an answer to this but no joy... I was observing the hilarious spectacle of a couple of zombies chasing a stag around a field, never fails to amuse. I turned my attention onto checking out the town I was going to enter. I look back at the field a few moments later to see 2 standing zombies and a dead stag... Could the zombies have caught and killed the stag?? Is this even possible? More likely the stag was downed by a (silent) gunshot or an arrow, although with no other players in sight and the nearest cover being 100's of meters away it would have been a hell of a shot. I was in pretty good cover myself and stayed there for quite a while expecting to see someone pop out to claim their prize, but no, the stag disappeared after a while. Either way it freaked 7 kinds of crap out of me so I legged it... My next experience was less weird but no less disturbing. Aggro zombie chasing me, locked myself in a house to loot. Could hear zombie outside, shuffling and clearing it's throat. Then silence... I go outside to see the zombie lying dead by the door... No other sounds occurred, no gunshots, axe thumps, footsteps, nothing. I called out, expecting, almost hoping for someone to take a shot at me to prove they existed, but nothing... Helpful ghost I guess.

    Can zombies kill animals?

Thanks Elle. i wasn't sure if they could actually kill animals, now I know. (I was thinking the stag was downed by a player stalking me... God this game makes you paranoid!) So my next question, can zombies kill each other? They seem to hit each other when they go aggro together, just never seen one go down from being hit by another?

    thoughts/discussion on NPC's

Er, actually no i'm not. It's clear you have one opinion about this and I another. Player driven means, player driven, not NPC given quests and items. Yes, i'm aware of what player driven means, thanks for taking the time to try and explain it though. These two things don't have to be mutually exclusive. Anyway I was originally responding to this particular part of your post - You really just underestimate the pleasures you can get from KoS. NPC would be killed just so that you can't get quests from them. rather than getting into the semantics of the game in general.

    thoughts/discussion on NPC's

I don't think anyone is suggesting, (well i'm certainly not) trying to turn the game into anything else. NPCs could just be another element of the game you can either engage with or ignore. In my mind NPCs would not be a required part of the game, merely an option. A little bit like the current fishing mechanic, how many KOS players (and by this I mean the many players who just tool up and go killing for the sheer fun of it) do you think currently use this element of the game, scavenging around trying to find the necessary tools and then patiently waiting by the waters edge for a bite? How much of the survival game are they actually experiencing? I for one am not talking about changing the game from it's current form, just adding to it.

    I hate bambi

Maybe so, but then again I found 6 worms on my first 'worm hunting' attempt. Scoffed the lot. Got sick. I'm not eating them again...

    thoughts/discussion on NPC's

Personally I find the real pleasure is killing KOS players... I'm not quite sure how adding NPCs would 'ruin the experience' for anyone. If you want to search them out and get into a 'quest' or task, then so be it, go for it. If you want to kill them and deny others this option, then fine too. Although the NPCs would re-spawn anyway, (?) so surely players who shot them would get pretty bored pretty quickly. Also the NPCs might be able to defend themselves, maybe they're naturally aggressive and would shoot first, resulting in trying to find a way to win them round initially. Maybe the NPCs would have uber rare loot that can only be unlocked when you have won them over and helped them out. Adding an extra dimension like this would surely enhance the game experience for all, (certainly for lone wolf players) regardless how you choose to play the game. I find it odd how some people dismiss this idea immediately without discussion. But the NPC should be Rare like the "man on Green Mt.", he could have a story. Like he wants tools so he can fix the radio tower and if you give him all the things on his list the man will broadcast from the tower, ie the walkie talkie will be useful. I think this is a good idea, although i'm not sure what use a broadcast would be...?

    Bug Feedback is VERY important

This just happened to me. Took 5 different servers to get my character back. (During this period, I was going to try my hardcore character, but then thought if you swap between them, does your alternate character get saved in it's current state, i.e. as a new spawn with no chance of finding your lost geared character ever again?) I was under the impression this was a known issue and being worked on. Will go and see if there's an active ticket about this...
  22. So i'm about 120 hours into this. At first I was concerned with just staying alive, fighting zombies, finding food and tools. Then I got my first (self-defence) kill. I thought the worm had turned, I would be soon be fighting the good fight and giving a good account of myself when meeting others. Then somehow i've become a hermit gear collector... Always trying to improve my kit somehow, not happy until everything is pristine, trying to protect my precious precious stuff... Which is weird as one of the first lessons learned was not to get attached to stuff, yet I find myself becoming more of a hermit, avoiding contact with other players (who on the whole seem geared and bandity and generally just KOS anyway). I've taken to sneaking around, taking long trips through the woods to get to a new location, hunting more to get food and avoid towns and cities. How can I get out of this rut? Is it a rut? I had the drop on 3 geared players yesterday. They had no idea I was there, hiding in the bushes, watching them, wondering what to do next. One even ran right past and didn't see me. I had him lined up right in the middle of my sks pu scope. But I didn't fire. I was concerned with the fact I had only 9 bullets left and 3 x sks rounds per geared player didn't seem quite enough. Also, they hadn't done anything to me, although i'm sure if I had shouted out to them I would be writing this on the coast with my new torch and battery right now... I may start making helicopter crash runs to start to try and collect some of the rarer gear. As my play-style appears to be developing a mind of it's own, this seems to be a worthwhile pursuit for a hermit gear collector...
  23. i was like that aswell. Thanks Axezeroone, that gives me hope. I have had some bugged deaths but somehow they're less annoying than being shot in the face by a geared kos...

How much of DayZ have you experienced?

I like to try the new aspects of the game, but have stopped short of bow and arrow crafting and fishing. Which is a shame as I do enjoy the crafting aspects of the game. There doesn't seem to be any advantage or return on the time and effort required to achieve theses goals. Maybe they should offer more of an incentive to players to try these new things? Such as eating fish immediately returns you to full healthy status, all green bars, with full blood too? The bow could be treated as a third weapon slot? Maybe you should be able to use books as well as chicken feathers to make arrows with? (I remember, in the real world this is, making my first arrows with cardboard flights. Yeah they were pretty crappy, but they worked.) Or an arrow hit renders the person hit immediately unconscious? (Just for trial purposes of course.) Or you randomly spawn with a bow and arrow or fishing pole to encourage folk to try it out? It's tricky enough trying to stay alive without trying to find bloody chicken feathers to complete a difficult to use one shot weapon...

    Spawning noise?

My question is does a character make a noise that can be heard by those nearby when re-spawning? (I have searched for an answer to this, but no luck. Apologies if this has been covered, I can't find any mention of it.) Recent experience of looting on a newly restarted low pop server, was carefully moving around, opened a door to a face-full of bullets. The local area hadn't been touched, loot everywhere, so I was confident it was fresh and untouched. (Ignoring the hilarity of being killed by one of only 5 other players on the map...!) My issue is that if my assailant had just spawned into the building, then I have no way of knowing this and am at a complete disadvantage. Despite all the careful ninja gameplay you can possibly muster approaching a position, absolutely nothing can defend against someone simply popping into existence nearby or into the room you are about to enter. Shouldn't a new spawn make some kind of noise to alert people nearby (i'm thinking within the range of open chat) that a player has simply just appeared on top of you? I remember the loading ammo noise that used to occur. Was that some kind of 'bug' that was fixed? No spawning noise gives the spawnee (is that even a word?) the advantage which I think is wrong. And yes, I was kind of pissed at the time as it was my longest running character and to loose it it such a way was kind of balls. I suppose the player could have been simply camping, but like I say it was a new server re-start, so they couldn't have been there for very long. Plus I think I would have seen them entering the building they shot me in as I had been watching it. There were no footsteps or door noises (I was in range, I would have heard them.) I should have checked the windows first as I would have seen them, so partly my fault for letting my guard down (lesson learned form that one), but still, a little aggrieved that the bullet(s) with your name on can just simply pop into existence nearby without you knowing anything about it. I mind less about being killed by my own carelessness than I do about having a geared player silently appear within 50ft of you.
