I liked your video and commentary very much but I do feel that there is one thing your missing that I noticed with the 0.55 "famine" patch. When you encountered it you had a mediumgeared character already. this allowed you to hunt, forage, grow things and survive. It was hard but exciting. This is exactly how it was for me with my geared characters that i had from earlier and it was quite nice. The best part about loot in that that patch was that you could find anything anywhere. Not very realistic but fun. Now, Imagine starting a brand new character in this loot economy. Theres no food, almost no loot at all anywhere near where you spawn. People arent very helpful as they are also starving so nobody gives you anything but grief. If you manage to pick enough apples and berries to get inland you notice that theres no loot there either. Its all gathered in some lootgasm somewhere on the map. If you find it you're home free, if you don't, you die. Not very realistic and not very fun. If everybody started out with survivalist gear to begin with it might work but they don't, so it doesn't. The people that left the game didn't do it because the game became difficult, they left because it became impossible. Hopefully the faults with persistance will be fixed eventually and then the difficulty can be tweaked. Maybe even the mod community will make different mods that cater to different types of playstyle and then everybody can be happy.

One character on ever server works great. Theres no reason to even think about any other solution to this. The only problem with it is that it becomes quite hard to keep track of them all after a while. But it wouldn't be so hard to make a system where you could see what chracter you have on a server, where he is located and even the option to have a different name for the character on every server. A 12 hour punishment for death is a bit harsh. 1 hour would be fine, as long as you can play on other servers with other characters in the meantime.

Crafting a fishing rod requires an axe or hatchet, rope, fishing hook and spadelike tool. So four thing you need to find just to be able to start fishing. Then you need a knife to gut the fish, either a cooking pot or pan and fire or portable stove to cook it. Or charcoal tabs so you can eat it raw. Crafting a bow requires an axe or hatchet, rope and arrows or feathers and sticks. Then finding an animal or bambi to kill and the cooking utensils mentioned above. All of this is fine, as long as the items are readily available or craftable which they aren't on persistant servers unless you find lootgasms. Not having this will leave you looking for canned food or bicking berries and apples. Or killing people and eating them. As of right now I have had no problem finding food at all. And once you get to a energized, hydrated point, its not much of a problem any more, ever again. The best thing would be if you could craft all of the items above byt ways of a ladder system: Stone knife kan be made by rock, string and rods made by stone knife, spades by strings and stone rock, hammers made by strings and stones, cooking pot made by hammer and any metal object etc. As for what type of game this game will be when the finished product comes out and what the playerbase will be like, I always thought it would be like the vanilla mod, but with more features, better graphics and a better game engine. After all its called Dayz standalone, not Dayz II.

I you meet this guy: DIMITRI ON SOLO. Kill him. I met him and talked to him for a bit then he killed me for no reason and was obnoxious. When I got back to my body it was unlootable and he appeared again and killed me, even though I had no weapon and proceeded to talk shit. I then spotted him again on another server with another player. They were looking for someone to kill so I stayed away. I also happened upon something I've never seen before, a lootgasm at Kamyshovo. Lots of crap everywhere. Unfortunately some asshole had to ruin the fun by killing everyone. And one of thsoe damn mines got me again, grrrrr.

I've found four since the hotifx. All empty except for one that had an empty m4 mag. One got me killed and one got me wounded.

Yesterday i got the shit kicked out of me by an invisible zombie. He ruined tow shirts and stuff in them. I didn't like it one bit, no sir.

I had a very weird thing happen today. First, I spawned outside vybor military base. As i was there y-day I started to go south, i noticed a heli crash just a bit from the base and ran to it. As I got there I was shot at and hit. i fell uncounsious but awoke. I bandaged myself and peeked to see my attackers but couldnt see anyone and they were still firing with mosins and m4. i told them to stop but they didnt. I checked my gear and my m65 jacket and vest were ruined with all my ammo and grenades :/ I tried to spot em again but saw nobody adn a guy was shooting with an m4 from not far away. I decided to take the cowards way out and log out. Later I logged in again on that server and my chracter was alive. The attackers were gone and I could limp away to safety. took me two hours to heal up. Heres the weird part, Later I come along the same spot with another character but from the other directions and a differnet server ofcourse. There a heli crash in the exact same spot and also a crashed v3s. The heli crash is picked clean but I spot a couple of v3s's a bit from the spot. I scope em out and they seem abandoned. I apporach adn then someones shooting at me. I'm hit in the legs adn has to use a morphine but its gone ruined :/ I peek around but see nobody then someone shoots from very close with a shotgun. I still se nobody and is shot dead from what I can hear a shotgun fired point blank. But thers nobody to be seen anywhere? Very weird. Same place, different attackers and I cant see them. Ghillies maybe?

I picked up two today. i dont do anyhtign really, either point at it and the text will appear or pick it form the menu. Perhaps it only works if you dont have enough room in your pack? And you can only pick up things into hands when your hands are empty. You cannot carry the chainsaw on your back. it fits in a taloon backpack though. I got some noise from it today too. Apparently you need to cut trees for it to make the sound. After that the sound will not go away unless you put the saw away.

I alsways use " take chainsaw into hands". Don't know whay you guys can't. Perhaps its the same as with miltary tents, which I can't carry in hands but other people seem to be able to. The gasoline thing I fixed by having a pet bottle with gasoline in my pack. Just don't forget that its not water as theres no way to check before drinking. i have never heard the chainsaw even though i frequently use one.

I played with 7 different characters yesterday and didnt get killed or even attacked once :D And that includes a run through Cherno and checking every house on the NW airfield on a full 40 man server.

I swam to prison island yesterday and noticed something strange. I was wearing police uniform pants and they didn't get wet. In the prison there were tons of loot. Ak's, clothes, massive amounts of food but at first no magazines. After some searching i did find them. it seems like soemone had been shot and the magazines ruined. I must've found 10 different mags all ruined. The only one not ruined was a rak mag.

I found two mags for ak101 on prison island yesterday. I was so happy. Then i noticed that they were both ruined :(

People often glitch in that particular buidling. How can they live with themselves?

I had an eventful day. I spawn with a middle-geared char outside Turovo. I go to the police station in Novo and hear shooting from the tower area. I decide to leave a little surprise for whoever comes and put a landmine just inside the door. I activate it and......I'm a newspawn again :/ I gear up for a bit and end up in Dolina. While looting there I hear a truck approach so I hide in a room in the police station with my chainsaw ready. A guy runs in and goes upstairs. I run outside and hide in the woods, spying the town. I see the guy in the police station but he never comes out. So I steal his truck, hehe. I drive towards Elektro and outside Kamyshowo I am shot at. I get hit and start bleeding. I see the guy at the side of the road but decide to press on. The road is littered with corpses. I heal up and drive back. I try to run the guy over but it doesnt work so i get the hell out of dodge instead. I go to the summer camp topolka dam and its a Lootgasm. 14 chainsaws! and lots of other crap. I can at least patch up and change my ruined gear. I then go to Vybor base. The base seems empty and theres soem gear in the barracks but as i got to the prison building I spot a bear trap on the floor. I deactivate it and sneak inside. As I'm in a room I hear the shuffling of feet upstairs. I try to talk to the guy but he doesn't respond but I hear him moving some more. Then I hear a truck approach and I decide its time to go.

I also prefer the way private servers work. Teleporting around alternate universes to find loot seems so unrealistic. Unfortunately private servers have some issues that public do not. Mostly the constant annyoing restarts but also more desync, lag and weird behaviour of clanmembers who rent the server. Some middle-way maybe?

I find lots as well, and always set them up. Y-day I encountered one that someone else had set up and SNAP! went my legs. Nothing got ruined though.

What the fuck are you talking about? The game has always had a certain amount of loot avaialble to the players from the very start. There has been small alterations along the way but nothing like this 0.55 broken thing. Yes, it was broken. It wasn't the way it was supposed to be and thats why people complained about it. It has nothing to with "Cod scrubs" whining and the devs giving in or such bs but people not being able to play the game because of its non-working state. Some could and those where very lucky. I could only play with already geared characters since starting with a freshspawn was pointless. I agree that a portion of the playerbase clearly concists of people that are playing the wrong game but A LOT of the people that have complained about the broken loot system are genuine Dayz players with a concern for what happened to the game they liked. When it was finally reported that there actually was a problem with the loot system I personally felt a lot better about it since it meant that I only had to wait for them to fix it to be able to enjoy the game again. I believe that the best system will be about halfway between what we have now and what we had before the hotfix.

I've noticed the small brown/yellow houses no longer spawn guns.

How do you guys deal with finding military tents? Do you drop your backpack just to get it, run to a safe place, then go back for your backpack or what? I just can't get myself do do that.

I've never met anyone with a blackskull balaclav who didn't try to kill me. Nice shot.

Today two rather new characters got shot dead by unknown assailants for no reason. Business as usual. Then One of my geared characters got wasted on prison island. It was weird though as I knew the guy was coming, hid in a room and leaned around a corner and shot 19 bullets with an ak-74 into his body point blank, blood splashing. Still he got me. Luckily my newspawn found a v3s and I could drive to prison island again. unfortunately the server restarted so the guy and my body was gone. I did get some nice stuff though.
