    Craftable armor

Even if trolls or trollclans decide to all suit up in them, I say let them. Because why not? They'd be clunky, loud, and rather obvious. And thus they're taking protection in favor of avoiding zombies. As for pillow armor, It wouldn't exactly be obnoxious, In my visualization of it at least. See the main issue I see with this is we'd need a bit larger shovels, or you would need multiple shovels, in order to have meaningful coverage of your torso. I'm from the USA. The proper spelling over here is armor. There are some variances between American English and everyone else's English. Well, first, that is part of the reason for taking two plates and hammering them together (seeing as you couldn't cut a thick enough plate were they that thickness in the first place) And once lootable vests are in the game, I'd suggest having them able to be crafted into a backing to reinforce a soft vest (perhaps turning a type II to a type IIIa, or a type IIIa to a type III in terms of protection.) But yeah. Other than that, I did specify that the SN42 which this idea is based off of, was able to stop .22 and lower power 9mm rounds. It would stop .380 ACP as well given they about half as much energy as a low power 9mm. And yeah that. Though some of the armor shouldn't really cause sound, like the leather stuff and the pillows. Pretty much.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

That's not exactly much protection though. Honestly, if you're firing 5.56 anyway, you should be able to spray. (and the face is still uncovered and thus a one shot kill) .45ACP? PIstols can be silenced, and once that's in the game, that gives pistols their own tactical advantage. So honestly, that doesn't overpower a person, especially when others can find vests as well. Ambushes and snipers will still be just as effective as before - you just need to aim elsewhere unless you're using a Mosin (or future equivalent in the sniper department.) and would make snipers somewhat necessary, given one sniper round = cuts through type IIIa like butter. Or bows/crossbows which ignore such armor. And type III? sure, it makes the center of the torso a bad place to aim- but the entire arms up to the shoulders, head, and legs are wide open targets. either aim or spray and it's not that hard to hit. So is it overpowered? No, not really. At least not anymore so than requiring a rifle to beat for most, and either volume or accuracy for the highest end vests. Of course, that's my opinion, and I get the feeling we have rather different opinions between us.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

Yeah, class II / IIIa seem to be what the in-game ballistic helmets hold up as, with a single 5.56 / .45 acp round protection normally before failing, but multiple 9mm / .22 round protection (according to the wiki)

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

Well ballistic helmets are for the most part (aside from a few things special ops teams use... which I highly doubt we'd ever see in game) realistically type II or type IIIa at best in terms of protection. Any rifle is going to go through them like butter, as will AP varients of handgun rounds. Type II won't even stop a standard (non-hollowpoint) .45 ACP or .357 magnum. So... yeah. We could go with realism on vests - keep it limited to class III at best perhaps, as rare military level plates of course. But class IIIa should be able to be found in police stations (rarely) and military bases (commonly/uncommonly?), with perhaps class II inserts/vests being more common given the rural setting? (found in every police station more or less) Balance it by loot probability rather than gameplay, and don't limit it to just the best, or just the worst. Just like we have civilian rifles and full auto military assault rifles in the game, why not have both cheap civilian / surplus vests and nicer quality vests?

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

You know, except for the fact that it only covers the chest, so absolutely every part of the body that is not center of mass is fair game. If anything a realistic ballistic vest would make people favor snipers and/or headshots more. Or spraying ammo. Or maybe taking people alive. At least initially.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

Well if we're looking at police grade, then it's type III / type IV depending on the police department in question. (more likely type IV in larger cities) Which means stopping at least all hand gun rounds, and probably at least protection against 5.56. (maybe 7.62x39 too, though 7.62 breaks down armor faster.) Here is a type III test: And another with a dragunov clone (same ammo and similar barrel length to a Mosin) Here is a type IV test of a coated steel plate vs shotgun wax slugs: Both are civilian grade plates. So yeah. To add, an older type III test run that survives 63 rounds of military grade, a third of which is black tip (tungsten AP) 5.56 rounds. Keeping in mind, most police forces are going to carry type IIIa on their standard officers under their jackets and would be used every day of type III A: -IIIa protection level is what would be found on pretty much every standard police officer on the street these days, (not military, SWAT, preppers, etc, all of which would have III or IV level).- Even if we go down to a class II vest, (if we're talking a rather ill-equipped and ill-funded police force) it would still stop multiple rounds of anything that's not an armor piercing variant of a hand gun shell, or a larger rifle. And even then, it would probably at least reduce the damage of anything that's not a sniper round. Of course, bows/crossbows on the other hand will pretty much ignore soft armor...
  7. They look great, though I'm honestly hoping to see more civilian small arms than anything, hence my AR-15 suggestion which is back on page 55 / I PM'd you about. That said, good to see more regional weapons than just general blanket suggestions.
  8. Personally as one point, modularity should be realistic - if something can be attached to it in real life, I personally believe you should be able to attach it in-game. For rarity, again I'd base off of realism via general statistics of guns IRL in east europe. IMO, all weapons should respawn for the sake of new players on 24/7 servers, but the rate of respawn should be based on strength and/or realistic rarity of a specific weapon. Like every 1-4 hours for something like a Mosin (the most realistically common hunting rifle) but a time span more like every day or even week for something like an M4.

Well then that makes it pointless for storage.
  10. Anything and everything 'tacticool', Also, aviator shades. Always has to be aviator shades.
  11. I agree this would be highly useful in situations where I find myself stuck. As-is, my best solution is to hop servers until one places me back on the 1.5th/2nd floor of the house I was in. Whereas this implementation would be fair and helpful.

    My first death.

So I had my first death in DayZ today, 30ish playtime hours in. I had managed to get full military gear, an AKM (with all accessories, in pristine condition), a FNX 45 (also with all accessoriess, also fully pristine), two 300 round boxes, each one full of the respective gun's ammo, two magazines for my AKM, ten magazines for my FNX45, and was fully stocked on food / medical supplies. The only thing I was lacking was a canteen, (and perhaps a couple extra AKM mags) Thus I was looking around the sourthern military base, on a server with about 10 people or so. Figuring that there might be a chance I'd run into someone, I had my mic on, and was making sure to talk about everything I was finding, so whoever was around would know i was there and not a bandit. But then as I was moving from one tent to another, I hear the loud crack of a mosin, followed by a you are dead message. Given it was just as loud as when I've fired one, I'd guess he was within at least 20-25, maybe 50 meters at most. And probably heard me talking about my frustration in finding a canteen. Total frustration there I'd say on my part. Was so close to being fully geared to my wants. Now, it's back to looting to try to get everything I had back again. I don't know whether I love or hate this game, but I'm addicted nonetheless still. At the same time I have to ask: Why do you shoot on sight someone who is clearly not interested in other player's items, but is actively searching for a particular item. And is well armed enough that if you had missed your shot and I managed to spot you before you reloaded, I would have either fired back (risking injury, especially at that close range), or going logscum and we both would have been fine? I get it if you're after PvP... but why not with other PvP players instead of the looter/medic who just tries to defend themselves?

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

see my main issue is on realism. We know there were military troops in the area - so there should be ballistic vests with inserts available. Heck, you should be able to take them off zombie soldiers if you kill them via headshot. (and would make zombie soldiers a bigger threat as well.) The Interceptor vest for example, (which would be found in helicopter crash sites at the least) is rated to take 1 7.62 round at the very least, with the operator unharmed beyond bruising. And civilian ballistic plates, though rare, would be in the hands of some preppers, as well as individual soldiers - and many commercialy available models worldwide offer greater protection than the interceptor. So... yeah. But a soft vest on it's own, without any inserts? We're looking at probably type II or type IIIA protection values. Also soft vests can handle a lot more rounds than a plate can, so we're looking at multiple round protection against most hand gun munitions, and -maybe- reduced damage from 5.56. Also given this is europe, civilians can own vests of up to type III freely, though rare they should have a chance of being around. Police might have type IV vests.

    My first death.

yeah, i've heard they tend to be shoot on sight, hence why I tried to make myself well... openly heard soas to (hopefully) give someone pause on the common shoot on sight policy. Also, I'm a hoarder, so yeah :p just kept running across ammo and mags, though mags were rare enough to find that i figured they'd be useful currency should I find someone to trade peacefully with me. But that obviously didn't happen. Generally speaking though, the amount of ammo I carried wasn't for a firefight, it was what i was stocking up on to from there avoid military sites for a god while after I found a canteen. That was the plan, anyway.

Yeah... regardless, even if the current inventory system is placeholer, an interim solution would be the OP's suggestion, which I back wholeheartedly.
  16. I read that, however there was nothing specifying that all new additions to such things should be culminated into such threads. I should clarify my own confusion: "complete list of suggested weapons" does not infer, to me at least, that all weapon suggestions should be added to said thread - rather it sounds instead like a central link hub for other threads.
  17. I apologize. I am used to in every other game forum I've been in, having most "list" topics linking to separate threads for individual suggestions, and the forum rules did not read as such that it sounded like all weapon suggestions should be in this thread. As such after my search for an AR-15 suggestion came up short, and it was not on the list of suggested weapons, I made my new thread. As a further suggestion, perhaps that point forbidding new weapon suggestion threads might be clarified?
  18. Except again, you know, the region of europe this game is based on has nearly the same love for the AR-15 as we have in the USA. (and is no harder to obtain an AR-15 in said countries than in the USA if we're being realistic.)

    Claymores/IED's/Mines

I'm in agreement that improvised explosives need to be a thing. Especially since it would give me something to do with all the shotgun shells I find that I will never use.
  20. 1. Except there's not just one on technical terms, also there is the difference between civilian and military obviously. You might find an AR-15 in a person's house, but not an M4 - as the M4 will stay helicopter only. It also removes the automatic recognition distinction - on PvP terms it would give a moment or two hesitation for a sniper or an ambusher as for figuring out the level of danger they are dealing with. As just one point. 2. It happens.
  21. In that case why isn't the game running 8 bit textures? It's not clutter if you're playing the realism card, or it could be what would be considered atmospheric clutter. Why else have papers strewn about, rotten food, etc? It's all about immersion. Also, I don't worry about filesize in my mods I've made for other games - my files are always what they need to be in order to be appealing in my mind, and I add everything that I can think of to in my mods. Granted, my modding experience is limited to Dwarf fortress and Fallout 3/NV, but regardless your statement is not an absolute. Furthermore, 1TB harddrives are rather cheap these days, and the average internet download speed worldwide is ~20 Mbps. Adding 10-15 seconds to a download for a gun isn't a big deal in my opinion when it adds to the realism, variety, and choice of the game. (which it does)
  22. I am aware it is more rural - however that fact is regardless, and a more rural area should have more guns rather than less, generally speaking. I'd be fine with both quite honestly for the m14 and M1A as well. Again, realism is a thing, and variety is the spice of life. Both guns exist in real life - why not in game as well?
  23. 1. Does the weapon platform matter that much, really? They're still two different guns, regardless. 2. If we're basing Chernarus off the Czech Republic (which is what everything I've heard is it's closest real life comparison) then no, the AR-15 would be far more common, seeing as of all European states the Czech Republic has the highest adoption of the AR-15 platform, even having a notable local manufacturer of the rifle series.
  24. First off, exactly and similar automatically are different points. Now for the main differences: 1. An AR-15's standard barrel length is 16 inches, compared to the M4's 14.5 inch standard barrel. This means the AR 15 is more accurate in terms of ballistics. Also the longer gas system creates less recoil and runs cleaner, thus more reliably for longer. 2. The operating mechanism is different between the rifles - hence the semi vs full auto capability. Secondly: -Realism -variety is the spice of life -because it is something civilians would have -because it is something many police forces carry -because it is -the- prepper rifle Given you haven't made a repose to the prior statements either, I suppose you also oppose the SKS + AKM being in game at the same time, and the M1911+FNX 45, etc multiple guns of the same caliber / type in the game? If this is the case, why not only have mosin rifles in the game as far as guns are concerned? Or is that something you'd want?
