    Claymores/IED's/Mines

I agree, but I feel that there should be a good number of improvised explosives which could be used. Tin can claymores would be fun.

    Crafting

Ashwood trees are most common along the coast - you'll see them along the traintracks there quite often. Another place to go is if you go up to Novo - the clocktower there has a ton of ashwood trees just outside of it. Like all the trees in that courtyard are ashwood.

    New building (hardware store)

Agreed, but hardware stores / pawnshops should also be added, IMO.

    Remove LRS from Mosin?

Actually no, what you are suggesting is not more realistic. It doesn't take much suspension of disbelief that some of the Mosin rifles we find could be the sniper version, or converted by hunters to accept more common modern scopes for the purpose of hunting, therefore all it takes is either some art assets to change the positioning of the LRS to include a rail, or we could make this modular and require you to find a rail in order to mount the LRS on the Mosin. These options would be more realistic than not being able to mount the LRS at all. That is my belief, at least.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

To me, it's just annoying. It doesn't add depth to me, it just makes me toss aside most every gun in favor of a mosin / SKS and a magnum until I find mags once I go to a military base, and then find a gun in a building nearby anyhow. It's not depth making every type of gun but two rifles and one handgun not a useful option whatsoever until you haul your rear off to a military base. On the topic: Also arrows are too rare.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

Oh god that happened to me as well with the only 75 round drum I've ever found. Just.. why server, why did you eat my magazine?

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

I have never in my type playing DayZ found a single .22 mag in any size outside of a military base or airbase. Maybe you're luckier than I am? The sporter, when equipped with 30 round mags, does have advantages over the SKS and Mosin - it would likely be preferred in such cases by those focusing mostly hunting zombies, or those who can't aim to save their lives, where the extra rounds mean they can spray. Regardless. It's not realistic to never find a magazine on a gun, nor is it realistic not to find empty magazines laying around various places. Kills the immersion. And it's not like it would kill balance to have them around anyhow. Seriously, how the hell do you have such luck, I've found a total of 3 AKMs, the two which required serverhopping to find, and the other I stumbled upon in some barracks when I was with some friends.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

But what about guns with integrated magazines? Not having the magazines be realistically accessible makes them a worse choice. Take the sporter-22 for example. Sure, it's easy enough to find in civilian areas, but the only, and I mean -only- way to get a mag is to go to a military base. Not fun nor realistic at all, and makes the sporter-22 a gun you never see used in comparison to the mosin or SKS which have integrated mags and are used quite commonly.

Melee Attack Reach vs Zombie Reach

I agree, any weapon in general, aside from brass knuckles or the like, should give you a longer reach than arms alone.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

Yeah magazines should be way way way more common, and guns somewhat less so. Regardless, quite so, finding a random damaged plate would be fairly normal in a post-apocalytpic area.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

Well yeah they should spawn in the vests, and then rarely (like as rare as AK magazines are right now, at least) found on their own in any place guns can spawn. Is what I would suggest at least.
  12. Well not necessarily, the sub-2000 could fit in the same space as an MP5 or a sawed off shotty in your backpack I'd think. Or could be folded for 2x2 as previously suggested, perhaps. Anyhow. Would be an interesting option among the secondary-yet-not-sidearm category.
  13. Good to hear, look forward to seeing your addition and what you have to say about it, lol.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

If we added carrier plates, it wouldn't be that complicated if they were to simply introduce a item type template. Sure the hard coding would be a bit more difficult at first, but it would allow them to add numerous types of insert plates, both traditional and improvised. Like a cast iron stove door or something even. I'd say divide it up between Melee and Gun values, with bows and crossbows acting on the melee chart. Each side would have a resistance to the different damage values in game, and should outright stop anything it is above, but each hit would cause it to wear to a certain degree. What degree would be up to the devs, but it would be simple enough to plug in data from numerous real life tests already able to be found, though for type III armor they'd be best off using AR500 series plates if simply because of how well documented they are. And so on and so forth.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

I agree to a degree. Type IIIa and type IV should stop at least part of the shock - they tend to be the categories designed to absorb impact, the former through being thicker fiber, the latter by being composite or ceramic based. But type II and III plates should outright stop the bullets, while still transferring the full force of the shock to the chest. Granted it would spread it to the whole chest rather than just what was behind it, so unconsciousness would be quite likely. So preventing blood/health damage outright, but not preventing shock. It's fair, balanced, and realistic enough to be authentic, and thus what this game aims for.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

Maybe have a separate equip slot in the vest (or just an equip slot in the vest) which only accepts carrier-plate type items?
  17. Evaris

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

I agree on this. And we should also see flexible plates of class II and class IIIa as well as the more common versions.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

"immersion" Hardly, if anything realism should add to immersion. Unless you are of the opinion that body armor is less effective than it is in real life. 5.56 rounds are also not guaranteed to drop someone on the first hit, especially at close range where they over-penetrate. But yes, the damage model should be adjusted for more realism in hardcore mode.
  19. The Czech manufacturer makes their rifles both to the original spec, along with aftermarket components. You can get a bare AR-15 the same as an original model you'd find in the USA, but they also have aftermarket rails and such - I'd suggest they all be there. As for uppers, they should both be available, in my opinion, with 5.56 NATO being more common. I don't have an exact estimate, but if I remember correctly, I heard about 1/5th of new rifles sold in the Czech Republic are AR-15's. I can't remember what website I read that one, nor do I have a way to validate it in any way, I'm afraid. I do know that 1/3rd to 1/2 of all new rifles sold in the USA are AR-15's, so the percentage wouldn't surprise me. So in general, I'd say just blanket AR-15's. They're manufactured by H&K, Sig, and the Czech company for what are most common in Europe in general, and they all have interchangeable parts with very little difference in components for the most part. So... yeah. I wouldn't limit the AR-15's to a single manufacturer in game, and rather just blanket name them "AR-15".

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

Yeah the AR500 series vests are pretty awesome in general. But honestly I'd like to see a lot of other things than just AR500 plates (which should be rarer than say a type II kevlar or type IIIa advanced soft vest.) http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/204289-craftable-armor/
  21. Evaris

any point in having a sidearm?

Except given this is a rural area, bolt action and semi auto hunting rifles should be more common than pistols of any sort. Just saying.

The Curse of Green Mountain SUGGESTIONS!

You get my beans for the mention of clowns. It would be awesome if we had a chance to visit the circus here in DayZ as well. Minus the candy of course. On topic: Perhaps there could be also military areas of it, and have it be a government bunker? Like wherever the president/primminister/whateverkindaleader Chernarus had would have been moved to green mountain for safety, just to have the zombie virus spread to everyone in that government bunker? So perhaps in order to turn on the mic you would first need to reactivate the bunker's generators? (like you'd find an extra gas container or something in one part of the bunker, then move down to the generator room, and hook it up, and then you could use that microphone. WIth all the zombies in between.) And after the power was back on, you could open up the door to another part of the bunker as well, in which there would be even more zombies? Just for a risk vs reward bit and all. Make it a challenge for a group or clan to work together to try to clear the place of zombies, turn the power on and broadcast, and then loot the supplies in the facility? If it were a bunker, obviously there would be food for years for a good number of people, all of which would now be zombies. So it would be an awesome end-game type thing.
  23. Just from my perspective? 3rd person, and hence regular, is more fun for me when I'm with a group of people. I can keep track of where they're at, and things in general are just more relaxed with 3rd person, allowing us to joke around a bit and simply have fun. But when I'm playing on my own? I prefer the 1st person, and hence hardcore. The suspense is just all the more there that way, and I'm able to get a lot more out of the gameplay in general. But that's just me and my perspective / opinion. As it is, I like having the options which are in place. Simply speaking: Hardcore when soloing, regular when with friends.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

Well then if anything then it would simply need to come with a damage model tweak, right?
