The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
Evaris replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
Well if we're looking at potential .45 ACP candidates, our best options are probably either a UMP or a Thompson due to: UMP: Used by Georgia, Latvia, Serbia, and Romania by military forces... though most utilize the 9mm version, the UMP does chamber in 45 ACP under the designation UMP45. Thompson SMG: Used by the Soviet Union in WWII through lend-lease programs, and remains in use in Croatia. Semi-auto restricted versions are also a popular collector's gun worldwide. Though honestly, the Thompson would probably be the most realistic bet for a .45 ACP submachine gun. -

Except of course there is the fact that this is more supposed to be eastern Europe / post-soviet block and Half of eastern European countries use the G36 in their armed forces. -
1. The Tac-15 isn't a "military" crossbow. It's an advanced hunting crossbow that attaches to a receiver of a civilian AR-15. 2. Due to the above, neither should be in military spawns, but instead have the Tac-15 be rarer. Oh, and as stated above, shoot -arrows-.

I'd also make the point that the G36 is used by pretty much half of eastern Europe's armed forces anyhow. -
I want to walk into an airport carrying that and see what security says. Other than that, lol.

The question is what constitutes "out of place"? If we had a conflict between east and west recently in the area - and there is UN involvement in the zombie outbreak, this opens up many weapons to plausibly exist, rare to be sure, but many weapons like the G36 and the M4 would be found. (from the zombified or killed soldiers.) And in terms of civilian arms, I am highly hoping that the AR-15 will make an appearance, due to it's worldwide popularity, even in eastern europe. I know of at least two companies in the Czech Republic and one in Georgia who manufacture the AR-15, let alone all the western European powers who manufacture and export to the former soviet nations. Not all "western" stuff is out of place. We can also look at the M16, which is used by the post-soviet Baltic states, along with the M14. The M4 is used by Serbia and Kosovo armed forces, and Georgia operates a very similar rifle with a short-stroke upper receiver (and yes, it's still in 5.56). The H&K 416 is popular among special forces groups across the world, including much of Eastern Europe. But probably most common of "western" assault rifles would be the G36 is used by the Czech Republic, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia... basically a good chunk, if not most of Eastern Europe. Of course these are just looking at AR's, and not SMGs, PDWs, or civilian weapons - but things need to be looked at by a case-by-case basis. "western" weapons aren't really out of place as much as a lot of people think. -
More uses for duct tape I can think of: Improvised bag: Duct tape + any shirt, or burlap sack, etc. Camouflage: Duct tape + grass + apply to anything. Improvised add-on armor: Duct tape + hard yet light material (like aluminum, wood, or plastic.) + apply to clothing. Improvised shield: Duct tape + larger piece of hard yet light material. Clothing reinforcement: Duct tape applied to clothing to make them more resistant to tearing. duct tape vest: Using the same principles in making a duct tape wallet, making larger containers on a vest harness. Duct tape ergonomic grip: Apply duct tape to improvised melee weapon without a grip over the shaft like a shovel, or to an axe. Would make it more comfortable to hold, and improve the grip, thus the edge alignment, thus the damage dealt. Duct tape torch: Take kindling, sticks, and duct tape it together, add petrolium jelly or pine sap and voila you have a torch you can light. Duct tape boat. PVC pipe / aluminum pipe + a lot of duct tape. It's a thing.

Actually it makes far more sense than you may think. The evidence in game suggests that we are at most a few years into the apocalypse: And the fresh fruit suggests we're not more than a month in. Were that removed, the canned goods would still suggest we are no more than 4-5 years in to the apocalypse. Food shortages do make sense in that people will eat up food resources quickly: But clothing and firearms should still be abundant. - Though not ammunition, which would have largely been used in defense against zombies. We are -not- in a wasteland or decades past the end of the world where guns are going to be breaking down. Also, the Czech Republic, which in terms of culture and terrain the map is largely being based on to my knowledge, is one of the most gun friendly nations in the EU. Even if guns aren't as common, it doesn't make sense to say that no one is going to be equipped with modern sporting / hunting rifles, especially given the amount of wilderness in the area which would easily support hunting for both medium and small game - allowing for a variety of calibers to be in demand for such hunters. An example is the AR-15 platform and SKS are common boar hunting rifles worldwide. Heck, again on the point of the Czech Republic, they have the most AR-15's of any European nation in civilian hands. And scopes/sights? Honestly we should see more hunting sights for rifles, given there is clearly deer - and there were hunters - in the area. Saying that they should be rare makes no sense in terms of realism. -

Okay, I can see the complaints of exaggerations, but... What's the problem with attaching a rail system to older guns to accept modern attachments? Honestly I see no problem with things like this: -
Why? We're not more than a month into the apocalypse based on the fresh oranges laying around. Clothes should still look nice if they were stored halfway decently in a drawer, let alone brand new hanging at a store.

1. You know, except for things like a cast iron stove door which I pointed out on the last page should stop rifle rounds realistically. Unless you're arguing that regardless of realism, crafted armors should not be bullet resistant in any form. 2. Hence why I suggested rugby instead of American Football, given pretty much no-one in America plays rugby and I figured it would be more popular in Europe. 3. It should probably slow you down based on weight I'd think, rather than just because "it's metal." Or is there more you are weighing on this? 4. I see materials all around. Car doors? Animals skins? Some nails on the ground? A trash can? I see a lot of possibilities. 5. Those should be far more rare, IMO.

Magazines are too hard to find as it is, in my opinion. When I can go on a low pop server after a server reset, and solo loot Karmanovka (and the two mini towns to the north and SE of it), Svetlojarsk, and Olsha, and in these towns come out with a talon backpack completely full of ammo, but not find a single magazine for any gun... something is wrong with that picture, I think.
-
However, in this case I have to say it's more on the should side than the should not side, in my opinion. Tacticool4lief.
-
I'm behind this. It would give me a reason to include a defib among my medical supplies.

Perhaps you could explain your emotions in further detail?

Im gone for a week and no replies? I'm suprised.

See on experimental servers I tend to always end up in a group of complete strangers whenever I respawn and end up having a blast until we log out, or actually make it to NWAF at which point we get shot by people already there. So if you're really looking for more friendly people, I'd say experimental is where it's at, lol. -
Where is this from?
-
I understand your point of view but... Honestly, I'd prefer things to be realistic. That said, whether something is kitted out should depend on the weapon - and to my knowledge, civilian weapons tend to be more often kitted out than military weapons, so... yeah. For me, Realism > the grind

the military gear / camo = auto KoS for some players apparently. -
You know, in retrospect that might be a good idea for a simpler make of scale armor.
-
Honestly I'd like to see both. My sense of uniqueness wants the crafted stuff, but my love for tacticool wants to see the military gear.
-
And that is my whole point of view myself. If you can think of anything to add, I'd love to hear!
-
You have my beans. I await the day where I can use a Sporter 22 effectively. Also, 30 round Sporter, AK, M4, and MP5 mags taking up more space than a larger book in the inventory: Wut?
-
Nice going with claiming friendly, (with a panicked tone behind it no less!) chatting with me for five minutes, then when things seemed like everything was alright, and you said you were having trouble hearing me, and I took a step forward like you asked? Yeah nice job spraying me down with your SKS. Doesn't matter now I suppose, that you found two medical bags in my backpack, and I explained that I play as a neutral medic, and was friendly. Even after I was knocked unconscious by you, I was still nice, and said you were free to take what you want, all I asked is if you wouldn't mind using some of the medical supplies I had to patch me up, you didn't even have to do anything to make me wake up again. But nope you decide it's more fun to just put a couple bullets in my head. And right before you did you said to me "You can't trust strangers." Yeah, well usually strangers who don't shoot you on sight aren't interested in shooting the moment I start going on my way peacefully. Nice going murderer. You are, in my opinion, the lowest of the low for players. Hope you enjoy my MP5K. I would have given it to you anyhow, had you asked. You probably wouldn't have ruined my extra magazines you would have gotten otherwise if you did just ask.
