Signs to tell if someone is hostile

Unless they really are god or the president, silly! We are obviously going to have a problem with you respecting my democratically chosen position in Chernarus!

    Bigfoot

Hey, let's meet up and I'll show you where he is!

    Random weapon jams

Why would you punish people when they find a new weapon? Let 'm replace weapons all they like. The state of the weapon they find will probably be randomized any way. That would be assuming the water doesn't get in any other way. I don't think it would make a lot of sense to have this in the game as you're either going full submersible or you'll stay above water. There are no water physics in this game and protecting the firearm with just a rubber wouldn't be very realistic when people take a swim in the ocean. I think they will at some point introduce misfiring and jamming as they already have a weapon cleaning kit introduced.
  5. It is an FPS game so you really should have a reloading hotkey. The problem with videogames is that you are always trying to overcome the inherent limitations of not being able to use your own hands and legs thinking "In real-life, I could do this .. Why can't I do it in this game?" So everything should be as fluent as possible, especially in a game where you only have one life. Having to spend too much time in your inventory dragging stuff around when you have an entire keyboard to your disposal to mimic actions you would perform in real-life is a waste and would just lead to frustration because the game doesn't pause when you're in your inventory.
  6. Yeah, that bothers me as well. I don't understand why the game has to be so clunky/unforgiving about these things. Other FPS games just handle it by playing an animation like you'd reload a gun but DayZ seems to want you to kind of be part of the environment when you do it which makes it needlessly complex. Not to mention that a lot of times things just go wrong because the whole interface just doesn't work right. It seems to me like that could all be resolved by not weirding up the item interaction ... I really don't think DayZ's 90's-approach is a good thing, if anything it is severely user unfriendly. I also do not think they will ever correct that seeing as how it has been that way in every ARMA game as far as I can tell.
  7. I don't see a lot of hardcore servers. I also don't really know what the difference is and I doubt it would warrant spending time on two characters. Can only be in one place at once, any way. I used to play hardcore on DayZ mod but that made sense at the time.

    Force shadows on client

If you want to see for yourself what a huge advantage it can be: Go up to Novodmitrovsk with shadows enabled and look from the hill-town (Cernaya Polana) into the huge industrial tower's staircases with shadows enabled and have someone hide in one of them. Then turn shadows off and do the same. Edit - I'll try to remember to post some screenshots for comparison.

    Force shadows on client

Exactly. It is about turning off shadows and how it makes up every room light up like a christmas tree and not to mention forests bright as day because there are no shadows. That means that other players can not hide in shadows (and neither can zombies!) Try turning on shadows, observe the difference in forests and buildings and then tell me it is FAIR to be able to turn off shadows. Not being able to see shadows projected by players is a small pay-off for the ultra-brightness you get in return.

in soviet russia, fish packs you different

No doubt people will refuse to eat 'm now and we'll see a whole bunch of topics about how the fish packaging isn't realistic so it shouldn't even be in the game.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

Should only offer some limited form of protection against small-arms fire like it says in the text. Maybe only be able to carry magazines. Dunno. Don't really care for the military stuff. I hope at some point you'll want to get rid of all the heavy military stuff so you can run from the massive amount of zombies chasing you.

    Going to try something different

Yeah, the problem with DayZ at the moment is that it is probably not realistic enough and you would be missing out on a lot of steps to demonstrate. At this point surviving in your own backyard would probably be more realistic than DayZ is. Especially the part where you are not supposed to drink the water ... Maybe the mod would be a little more suitable, a bit more survival stuff from what I recall.

    Going to try something different

Obviously was not meant that way and although the guy who made the movie got it, some random dude who decided to join in on the conversation from his high horse did not. Hint.

    Tranquilizer Gun/Non-Lethal Take-Downs

LOL yeah ... Guess the guy never wondered why the police were not running around with harpoon guns all the time? Some less-than-lethal weapons would be O.K but with the current gaming mechanics they would be a huge risk to use. Most people blow your head off as soon as they see you, any way. They would be a good risk-free alternative to handcuffs, though. It is kind of silly that when you're slapping cuffs on someone, they get to attack you with a two-handed weapon. I think a tranquilizer dart gun would make more sense. Can they not load tranquilizer ammo in some types of rifles? I see veterinarians run around with what seem to be regular rifles when they're on the news.

    Movement speed penalty and gear.

Well, it would cause people to think twice about taking certain items with 'm. The penalty could also be a mixture of things; go hungry/thirsty more quickly, take longer to crouch/go prone and a very small penalty to jogging speed / larger penalty to sprinting speed.

    Claymores/IED's/Mines

Hah, I remember Battlefield 2142 and its claymores. Just dump one somewhere and get a free kill! Only good for grieving. All explosives should be timed or complex enough to be spotted from a distance but not necessarily dismantled quickly. Tripwires, physics traps ...

First experience: "I just say Hi"

Haha. Whenever you stand still and you think you're being all harmless and innocent, that's just more time you give someone to zero in on your head. What did you use to record the video btw? Seems pretty responsive.

    My Buddies 2nd Day

    It's fun isn't it? :)
  22. What bothers me most about DayZ is the way it tries to make everything more difficult by the use of buttons and the way you interact with the world. It's just so clunky. Why would I be given the option to reload my gun when I just want to open a door or climb down the stairs? If anything, they should clean up the input/interface/whatever.

Should weapon attachments only spawn on guns?

Exactly, everyone knows a 75-round drum should not be available until 3 hours into the apocalypse! Maybe we should all stop pretending that we would know what exactly would be available in Russia after an apocalypse of any kind?
