Just a word of caution. If you have a RIS/bipod, take off the RIS and put an MP handrail on, the game will let you retain the bipod. (which it shouldn't do). Ooooh great, the dispersion benefits of an MP, with a bipod. Except that when you log off, the bipod will disappear. Apologies if this is a know issue, but all I could find was something involving painting....

I'm about to dump my AKM with pristine PSO, 30 round mag and about 100 rounds, unless someone tells me (soon) that they want it. Just can't be bothered lugging the thing around, when I really just need my M4. Also have two pristine flashbangs if anyone's interested. I'm UK based.

How many ammo do you carry?

As of now I have 220 5.56 rounds for my M4 (120 of that in mags), about 120 7.62 for the AKM that I'm running around with in my hands (and which I'm bound to lose pretty soon). I have about 100 rounds of 0.45 for my FNX (inc three mags), and about 60 for Amphibia (inc two mags). I do maintain a 300 round box, as it just saves inventory space for this lot, plus I have some 7.62 x 51 if I want to trade with someone who has a Mosin. Not sure I'd bother with a second 300 box though. Willing to bet a substantial sum that I will die loooong before I run out of ammo... :huh: -
You can't find one, because you're looking for one Mofo. Start looking for something else, and suddenly you'll be seeing 300 round boxes everywhere...

Does military loot spawn in the Heli crash near Berezino?

There are several permanent Mi8 heli crash sights (eg in the woods near the Rify wreck). They used to spawn mil loot, but now seem to spawn nothing. The random UH60 crash sites, which do spawn mil loot, including M4s, M4 attachments and 5.56mm are elsewhere. Only three or four per server, at a potential list of 64 (or perhaps more now) locations. They certainly used to be weighted towards the west of the map. -
1. If you're trying to run two rifles, if you had the second in your hands you will still have it when you log back in, but it won't just be in your inventory, it will be in your hands. A fan of this as it means you can't run flat out with two guns. 2. New buildings and towns in the north west. Hmm. Confused the hell out of me for about 15 minutes. At least the bus station's still there :) 3. Crouched running seems bugged for me. Generates the noise of at least two people running and seems a bit laggy. Now I'm off to look for heli crashes again...

Crash sites seem broadly comparable in terms of frequency and loot quality to the way they were. Since yesterday afternoon I've found seven, all in the usual places. They spawn M4 mags and attachments, helmets, pistols, ammo (5.56, 7.62x39, 0.45 so far) and the M4 itself. For all that hurf durf about changing the model, it's the same one. I think the smoke is visible from a slightly greater distance though. This has all led me to the inevitable AKM vs M4 debate, as I'm (rather stupidly) trying to run with both. I have 220 rounds of 5.56 and about 120 of 7.62. My AKM has a pristine PSO, and I always appreciate its stopping power. But the M4 seems a slightly better all-rounder - and I have lots of either worn or pristine attachments for it, including ACOG and an RV1 (which I actually like), as well as mag pull parts and a bipod/foregrip. While 7.62 is much more common, I'm probably going with the M4, partly for the sheer flexibility of the thing, and partly for reasons of looks and sentimentality.

My worst ever, because it was so stupid, was accidentally running straight off the roof of the north west bus garage. That char was about three weeks old, nigh-on perfectly geared for my playstyle. I actually had to go out and have a little walk around, and have a smoke after that. Didn't play for another week, but it finally sucked me back in...

No, and not found an actual M4, despite looting many crash sites. Have more mags and attachments than I know what to do with. Worried that, as per the rumoured Dean comment, the actual M4 is out of the game altogether... -

Yeah, you know what I mean.. :) Gunny - 021 042. I think there's one further round to the east as well. That whole area also just has more buildings (eg at the railway crossing). -

The point about bases (now that high end loot like AKMs/101s and their mags only ever spawn there) is barracks, which is why Vybor/Veresnik is so popular. It gets camped out a lot though, by people who just sit on the little wooded hill and wait for passing trade. If you can put up with the sheer zombie count, the 'secret' southern base (021 119 to the south east of Pavlovo), with four barracks, is excellent for looting. Don't get hung up on military stuff though. You can do well from police and fire stations, piano houses, etc.

I really don't think stable is functional right now in terms of zeds. I killed four or five at Balota, tried shutting another two out while I quietly bandaged in the upstairs room, all working fine. Two minutes later, I have healthy bar again, etc, no zombie near me. Then my leg is broken, I am bleeding, I am dead. Instantaneous. Probably hit through the floor. Or 'just Alpha'. Either way, 'functional' it ain't.

Yesterday I took a big chance on a high pop server and tried looting the Balota tents. Had to shoot a z. Then three turned up. OK. Shot them. Then six (or was it seven?) started chasing me around like a Keystone Cops scene and I just had to run. I do like the emphasis on stealth, but not always possible to do that, and current z mechanics are making life very hard for lone wolves. Perhaps that's as it should be though...

Regarding Northwestern Chernarus

The unnamed town north of the bus station has been competely removed, with the exception of a rather lonely looking water pump. Now even some of the outbuildings further east have been taken away. From the look of many of the roads in between there and the north east, the whole thing has been earmarked for urban sprawl... :huh: There used to be a spawn point where Novo is now and I'd wonder why there was basically an urban road grid in the middle of nowhere. I'm not a huge fan of this, as I like the far north's sense of sparsity. Also, with tents, persistence, etc, at this rate where the hell is anyone actually going to hide anything? -

Is there any way of doing a very rough range estimate using the LRS? I get that it's just not comparable to the PSO, because it doesn't have the markings, but is there any rule of thumb about 1.7m representing such-and-such a fraction of the fat or thin vertical line such that range can be estimated? -
Because they're tourist maps?
