There are lots of other posts and stickies about how to optimise fps, etc. (like http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/162591-how-to-increase-frames-in-dayz-with-a-midlow-end-pc-in-game-specs/) Much of it is really helpful (like altering the cfg files). There is a point of view that the situation can be improved by running higher graphics settings, as these push the processing into more powerful GPUs. But ultimately, as stated above, there's only so much you can do about it.

Strange. I saw a post about this apparently from someone in the know, confirming that it was next Wednesday. Now it seems to have disappeared. Hmm.

Thanks for that reply Chain. I do appreciate all those things, just as I and most of us here appreciate all the dev communication. There is an essential tension about Early Access, about paying for an Alpha, and those who are not used to it (yes, despite all the warnings...) will rant - some of them more articulately than others. But, while I appreciate how exhausting it must be, when they do I think a bit more consideration needs to be shown.
-
No. I'm criticising precisely the kind of behaviour you seem to be displaying here. A kind of weird ranting based on some kind of conspiracy theory about, er, 'cancer'. If that's defined as people being unhappy about the state of what we have and saying so, then I defend their right to do so. And if you want to pick semantics about 'game' vs 'alpha', perhaps 'product' is the best compromise?
-
Nice try at what? Disagreeing with you? Why the caps? Why the snide tone? Oh well, QED I guess.

I've lost alot of blood...

To enter 'healing', you need to have both energised and hydrated bars showing green. And the energised one has to be bright green (it's ok if the hydrated one is dark). So try to find somewhere with a lot of food (like the ground floor food room of a general office building). Eat rice/crunchy crisps/potato and all the sodas/water you can. Takes about half an hour IME. -
IME it's true that that area of the map (Gorka, Polana, Dolina, Staroye) is pretty Z-heavy. It's also pretty newspawn heavy, which makes for some entertaining cabaret. More than once I've headed that way to help out a fresh spawn and have been chased away by three or four Zs at a time.

So much bullying behaviour ITT. The OP and others have a point of view, and it's one I sometimes share when the game screws me over. The fundamental issue here is that everyone (willingly) parted with their cash for a game that's very, very glitched/hacked/laggy/buggy. You can have all the alpha warnings you like, but that doesn't mean people won't have expectations of progress on some of these fundamental problems. And if they have, let them express that without personally insulting them. Then explain to them why they might have misunderstood, or that you disagree, without calling them a whiney kid, troll, sucker, etc, etc. It's just depressing.

Jesus H Corbett. Reports of this hack are in the double figures now, at least. There's at least one YT video of it. He's not lying.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

When the character wipe comes...
Mookie (original) replied to CANUCKinNZ's topic in General Discussion
I don't agree with that slogan (just as I don't agree with many people who tell me or others here 'what DayZ is all about.') It can also be about trying to stay alive, explore and interact when you're geared to a high standard. -
Unlike all other attachments, M4 handguards can only be 'swapped' - they cannot be removed and put back into inventory (perhaps this goes for the AKs, I don't know because I'm an M4 guy). But even if you have inventory space for the swap, the one being removed will often disappear. This is a particular problem if, like me, you are cretinous enough to actually try running around with two M4s; because somewhere in the back of your mind you'd like to give one to a noob. If you try putting something like a pristine RIS on your spare M4 (the one in your hands), the old one will disappear, and you will not be able to get the good one off - at least until you find another handguard at a crash site. But it's also a problem more often than not if you have one M4 and just try to swap one in your inventory for the one on the gun. The one being swapped out will just disappear, whether or not you have inventory space for it. I'm assuming this particular mechanism is because no one wants to be able to fire an M4 without a handguard, but it does seem a little broken.
-
No, I like the RIS just fine. But I'm not sure if it affects any of the stats on its own - does it?. It's the bipod that affects the stats, assuming you're prone, etc. Whereas the MP handguard seems better for accuracy no matter what.

"You are dead" - Logout; What happens?
Mookie (original) replied to Gu1t4r_M4n's topic in General Discussion
Yeah. I woke up this morning, got out of bed and fell straight through the floor into the kitchen and died. -
Look at the probable crash sites and figure out a run which takes in as many of them as possible. Experienced heli hunters know exactly the run I mean. You have only a 4.5% chance of a site spawning, and within that of an M4 spawning I'd guesstimate about another 5%. When I was actually desperate to find one, and after I'd found a pristine version of every single sight and attachment available, I did my standard run for 48 hours before one turned up. Then, just when I'd stopped looking for M4s, I found another two in the space of two hours... :P The char I had before this ran straight to NWAF, found a 101 and a mag in the barracks, and then noticed there was a crash site on the runway which had an M4 on it. It's just a mix of luck and persistence. Alternatively, go to Berezino on a high pop server with an SKS and kill a hacker. If I find another one I'll PM you, but it's wipe soon. <_<

Sorry, already dumped it  . It was the only way I could solve the conundrum. At one point, in a very misguided attempt to solve it, I put them both down, and one disappeared. I found it eventually (20m away), but the only way I could get the old one in all its MP/ACOG attachment glory back, while retaining the RIS handguard option, was by finding another handguard at a crash site and swapping them out. For some reason, I'm very lucky with guns. Over the past two weeks I've dumped an AKM/PSO/drum, a 101 with a PSO, and about two hours ago another 101; all in favour of M4s. I just can't be faffed running about with two, and it always seems to lead to unhappiness.
-
I have two pristine frags and a pristine flashbang. I had six at one point, but dumped them for inventory reasons. They come up pretty regularly in crash sites.

I thought if you logged back into the same server and were lucky enough to spawn somewhere relatively nearby, you could run back and find your body. Assuming no one else had found it first, etc, and that it wasn't 20 feet up in the air because you fell through a Floor of Death. Genuine question - I've never tried to do it, but could swear others have.... -
You are Dead at the N W A F Fire station tower
Mookie (original) replied to Boxer23's topic in General Discussion
There are up to three things being confused here: 1. Being sniped/glitched sound (but this happens on empty servers, and you still hear after you're dead, and it happens in un-snipable places like the upper floors of the red roof barns); 3. The 'your leg is broken' bug, which seems to happen near stairs and might involve Zs hitting you from below; 4. The 'you are dead' instantaneous bug (which is possibly the most severe form of no.2). My last three deaths have been the insta-fatality on second floors - of a building site, of a barn, and finally on the second floor of the NWAF fire tower (empty server). I just don't go upstairs anymore. Lots of people don't. We can have fishing rods, and animal AI, but we can't actually go upstairs. -
Just logged in. Am a new 'fresh' char on every server. In a way I admire them for it. In another way, typically DayZ, they could at least have given us the kind of notice such that we would not have wasted our time for the past few days. Really, that sucks large ones.

Any option to not lose everything every few minutes?
Mookie (original) replied to Tourist (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
It is an enormously frustrating game to play, and there is something pathologically masochistic about it. But, as you find that you get a bit better at knowing what to do, you may find yourself hopelessly addicted to it. My current char has been alive for just under a week. He's about as well kitted as I could dream of. Much of that stuff I had to run far and take risks to get. I understand some of your irritation. But if you've only been alive a 'few minutes', you have little to lose. Imagine how much worse that's gonna be when you've been alive for a while and have cool gear. When my guy dies (and he'll probably die to a new glitch involving being attacked by a tree or something), I will probably fall backwards off my chair I'll be so pissed off. And a couple of days later I'll be playing again. So, use the dayzdb map to find relatively low risk loot locations like police stations. Loot them a bit. Eventually you will find a gun and some ammo, and a backback. Then either go military by taking the risks of looting military sites and getting into firefights, or go survivor and make yourself a nice fishing rod...or something in between. If you want to meet up in game for some assistance, I'd be happy to do so. PM me here if you like. -
In the same way that we an use a sewing kit to bring (most) items of clothing up to 'worn', we should be able to use a combination of weapon cleaning kit, screwdriver and/or wrench to do the same for weapon attachments. In the same way that you can craft a splint from sticks and rags, you should be able to craft 'weapon repair kit' from cleaning kit and screwdriver or wrench, that you can then apply to your damaged stock, grip, sight, etc, to bring it up to 'worn' status. At the moment, the wrench, screwdriver and cleaning kit have little if any use...

I only get that sound when I'm crouched with a rifle in my hands. Hands free=normal sound for me... -
If you kill everyone you see from now on, how will you ever get proof that there are players who are honest and fair?
-
Thanks tootights, for a non-patronising reply. I'm familiar with server maintenance, except that this went on for longer than that, and every server I logged into (when they all came back up) had a fresh char. Then this afternoon I thought I'd try one last time, and there was my guy back again. :)
