Yesterday I finally found an M4, after a solid three days of crash site running. So that was good. Today, after the ridiculous temperature fix, I am rapidly freezing to death, even though I'm wearing full Gorka camo gear, a beanie, gloves and boots. Which is bad.

I was a bit pissy about all this at first. Now I'm ok with it. Pretty much every looting method is tougher in 0.49. It's hard to tell whether a barracks has been looted or not because so little stuff spawns there in the first place. Heli crashes are an absolute b*tch to find in the first place, never mind actually finding an M4. It just raises the stakes about staying alive that much more. And taken together with the wipe, it should mean that there's less incentive to blindly PvP, and more to team up in order to survive.

The far west for me. The Bus Garage, Zeleno, Green Mountain, etc. Looting, trying to help people, occasionally being shot up, running crash sites. Whenever I go east something Very Bad happens.

In 0.48 I thought more than once of posting a crash site running guide, in terms of maximising reward for effort. but I stopped short for fear that it would encourage the competition.... I'm genuinely quite nostalgic about 0.48 crash running, perhaps because after a solid three weeks of doing so I had my longest lived char, and the best gear I've ever had. Thanks for that updated map Odin. I've just found an M4 after a solid 72 hours of crash site running. It was psychologically demanding work, to put it mildly. I do not expect that I will get anywhere near the one man army that I was in 0.48 - with four frags, two flashbangs (all pristine), seven 60 round mags, and a beautiful M4 with every pristine attachment known, and just a choice of whether I wanted things green or black... I think we just have to accept that it's harder to find automatic weapons in 0.49. For a while I gave up on the M4 and tried for an AK in assorted barracks. Not a sausage, and a tad too much risk in the effort. To fellow crash runners, all I can say is keep at it, and it will happen.

Sadly, some tosser shot me up at the Pavlovo base earlier this evening. Let me get geared back up and find some good stuff to trade, and I'll be back in touch.

Find Gorka jacket = problem solved. It's both warm and waterproof. I still get the occasional 'you are warming up/cooling down' messages, but they always seem to go away with a Gorka. Plus it seems to offer the same waterproofing as a raincoat, to the extent that I can just run around in the rain. Although that could be servers not noticing any effect of rain, which seems to happen a lot...

Um, wanna do some trading Insoliciously ( :) )? Yes, I think it's the mixing of Mi-8 and Blackhawks that's had this effect, and the point that the former are bugged and spawn fairly worthless stuff. If you can (in theory) find an M4 on a Blackhawk site, the Mi-8 loot should at least be a little better. I might keep trying for a little longer, maybe extend my regular run further to take in more sites.

OK, fwiw, my theory is that there are still three (not four, my bad) possible spawns per restart. But they can be either Mi-8 or Blackhawk and that's random. Either way, given the serious apparent scarcity of the Blackhawks, it's really not worth doing now.

Have to say the fps seems a lot better too. I find the weather/clothing thing to be a bit of a tamagochi thing though. And yes, I'm grumpy about what's happened to the heli crash sites, but hey...

It feels almost as if there is some kind of cumulative effect going on here. Three 25 minute runs down the entire west side of the map, occasionally dipping east when I knew there used to be possible sites there.. No helis. :(

FWIW, I found it harder to survive as a new spawn - possibly because of my spawn location, miles from anywhere. Eventually I starved (first time ever). Then I got naked Vybor spawn, immediately found a pristine compass and headed to my ol' favourite locations. Is it just me, or does it seem harder to close doors? I do think I'm gonna have to give up on finding an M4 for now though, which is a shame.

Around Green Mountain/Zeleno. The location points were where I would have expected them, as per the Dagwood map. It's just that they're a helluva lot less frequent. I've been searching all afternoon and have found a single Blackhawk site.

All M4 parts except the suppressor, spawn at crash sites in .48, including RIS guards, which are pretty common. In all my .48 crash looting I've never seen a silencer. They were simply taken out as they had no function (save, IIRC, for a small accuracy improvement on the M4).

Um, can I just ask that on our way to whatever this 'endgame' is, we don't end up with a game that's hopelessly complex as it tries to micro-incentivise players or account for the myriad small considerations of getting around in life to the nth degree. Apologies for the sheer age of the reference, but can we please avoid the terrible journey from (eg) Shogun:Total War (excellent game), to Medieval:Total War (excellent game, but a bit complicated), to Rome:Total War (getting too damn convoluted now), to Empire Total War (er, wtf?). Was doing more chopper hunting, because I'm kinda running out of things to do...aprt from looking for a pristine combat knife. At one of the spawn points near Green Mountain, I find a heli spawn. It's been looted and the only things remaining are an empty 10 rnd mag (hmmm), and an M4. Ergo, looted by persons who already had an M4. So I run away. Cue M4 shots from both my left and right. Either they were really crap shots, or it was two people looting towns to my right and left. Either way, I jog on a bit further east. Just skirting round a town (Goglovo?), Z running straight at me, 5.56mm between the eyes, goes down. 3 seconds later 'No message received...' This is quite bad. There will be a Z respawn. My three week old, perfectly geared char will probably die to a Z or Zs. I keep going, waiting to see if it will work itself out (as these things sometimes do). No chance - I time out after the 90 secs and of course can't get on again for however long it is. Then, mirabile dictu, I am still alive. The timeout must have happened as the Z saw or ran at me. However, I seem to get a lot more 'No message receiveds...' these days. Four in a row yesterday afternoon.

What a sweetie... OT, I think things are fine the way they are. Certainly don't think M4s should be in gen mil loot. Much harder to find atm than AKs in my recent experience, and that's as it should be.

But replace them with morphine as and when you find it, as the effect is the same, but the morphine only takes one slot....

M4. I just like the modular thing about it, and have been lucky enough to find all of the components. In country, I usually run it with MP guard and stock and an ACOG, although I swap those out for a CQB stock and an RV1 in urban settings. I've also been lucky enough, and have survived long enough, to have collected seven 60 round mags for it. I was just overjoyed when it came back to the game because heli spawns were reintroduced. Other than that, yes, I have a soft spot for Mosin/comp/LRS, although they seem to be hard to find now. If I was going to run with two primaries I'd have an M4 and a camo/burlapped Mosin. My pistol preference is an FNX. I have three mags and about 80 rounds in my 300rnd box. Like the mag capacity and relatively high stopping power.

They definitely spawn at heli crashes. The problem is, I haven't seen a mag since 0.48...

Continuing my general quest for adventure, I woke up just to the east of the NWAF. Within seconds someone was taking potshots at me, so I headed south-east-ish and ended up going via Gorka, Polana and Dolina. On the way I ran into what looked a bit like a missile silo (ie a big round concrete slab in the ground) with handwritten sign in Cyrillic, just east of Kabanino. I was hoping to run into someone friendly to give my spare M4 to. Inevitably given the nature of that area, I ended up running down the road from Dolina with six Zs in tow. Had taken a few hits, but nothing damaged and no bleeding. Dodged them in the trees along the cost road and headed back inland via Three Valleys. Then did a pretty serious run straight west, where I chanced upon the ruined church at Kumyrna. At this point, IRL Mrs Mookie popped into the room to demand that I listen to how fascinating the hen party she'd been to on Friday night. After about 15 minutes she finally left, and it was then I noticed I'd been crouched about five feet away from a Z. Snuck away from him and later saw three Zs (though one of them might have been a player) chasing a boar into the woods near Vyshnoye. Finally made it back to my happy place in the north west, where the crash spawns are many and the zombies few... B) Worth mentioning that over the course of the day, the lag/fps has become steadily worse and worse, to the extent that at this late hour the game is hardly playable. And yes, I know and tried all the fixes.

Now that sounds rough. I've lost one good piece of gear to an unannounced restart on a clan server and that was annoying enough... Which server was it?

The possible locations are pretty well known and not random. There's not really a greater likelihood of a spawn near a military facility (some of the locations are so far west they're near the debug fields), but four of them are on the NWAF runway and another four are on the Balota runway. The OP was relatively lucky. There is a 4.5% probability of a crash spawn at anyone of the locations, and the runways just improve the odds by having four in a line. You're quite right about the Berezino campers, but then I don't think many of them need another M4 or more 5.56... <_<

My guy's about a week old and I'm very pleased with his kit, borne mainly from some very successful heli hunting. I'm not sure why I'm bothering to run around with two M4s, but I am. Today I started a run all the way round the edge of the map. Heading south now, having done the west and most of the north. I am a tad bored though, so might go looking for a fight, or for a new spawn to gift the second M4 to.
