I suddenly realise i'm a collector.... Is this just a phase?
Mookie (original) replied to 100ftjesus's topic in General Discussion
I think I'm getting this way too (although unlike Calvin have yet to get into tents and persistence). If your aim is simply to stay alive for as long as possible, it's not a bad lifestyle. You get other player interaction via trades and occasionally running with people you know and trust. But other than that you find the bits of the map that you like (and I suspect a lot of us like the same parts of the map), hang out, explore a little, etc. There are two downsides though. The first is that if you decide to run crash sites, in 0.49 it requires a very high level of mental endurance. The second is that death, when it comes, will be very, very bad. -
Correct. OP wants to snipe crash sites. So I'll be seeing him around.
-
Bipods don't spawn in 0.49 I'm afraid. No one's seen one since the update, and there have been none available for trade since.

Nice name George. Though perhaps only appealing to a certain age group :)

Smersh Vests: Holy grail? + Mi-8 crash sites in general.
Mookie (original) replied to OmpaLompa's topic in General Discussion
Tell me about it. Yesterday I made 50 crash site runs. I found no UH60 crashes at all. Today I logged in on the off chance and found two within 300m of each other. Then I relogged and found another two in a single run. One day perhaps someone who is better at maths and probability theory than me will write up some proper complex equations for DayZ spawns. But it's important to bear this in mind: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler%27s_fallacy The fact that something has spawned at a particular place at a particular time makes it no less likely that it will respawn in any other server you subsequently visit. -
More "Dynamic" Helicopter crash's
Mookie (original) replied to JokersWarPig's topic in General Discussion
There's something to be said for this, and I like the visual drama. But: Strictly speaking, the locations aren't "random", they're just random from a given set of well known potential sites. There's no more reason why a dynamic crash would attract players inland - unless the actual probabilities of one taking place were improved. If anything, the fact that it would be an active encouragement to PvP would probably put people off. I'd much prefer to get the Mi-8 sites sorted out so that they are either dropped (most of their very poor loot spawns elsewhere anyway), or at least improved. -
WARNING Don't log out while climbing a ladder!
Mookie (original) replied to Jeramy's topic in New Player Discussion
Also "My feet hurt". >:( Never log out on a ladder, or upstairs, or really in any building at all. Log out in cover, in the woods, and even then only after waiting a minute or two to see if anything has spotted you and is coming to kill you during those 30 secs. -
3rd person regular. HAVE: M4 ACOG optics (P) M4 Magpul stock (P) x2 M4 Magpul guard (P) x2 M4 M9A1 bayonet (P) WANT: M4 RiS handguard (P only) Mosin compensator (P only) Cheers.

Permadeath? This is permadeath!
Mookie (original) replied to Max Planck's topic in General Discussion
This is like Applejacx to the power of ten. But it's not the ultimate hardcore solution, which would be killing yourself IRL if you died in game. Apologies if that seems tasteless, I'm just following the nutty logic... It's bonkers in my view, but that's one of the interesting things about the psychological experimentation you get in gaming sometimes. -
Smersh Vests: Holy grail? + Mi-8 crash sites in general.
Mookie (original) replied to OmpaLompa's topic in General Discussion
The backpacks spawn in barracks and are not uncommon. The vests don't, and are. -
So what do you guys mostly find at heli crashes?
Mookie (original) replied to TheWizard14's topic in General Discussion
Unable to tell if this is now a thread about hacking, or about heli crashes, but to OP, if you want a comprehensive list of the items spawned at a UH60 (ie NATO) site, I think you can just click on a crash site on the dayzdb map. An average unlooted crash site will spawn at least three or four M4 mags, three to four attachments in varying degrees of repair (this is random, but does include pristine ACOGs), a beret, a flare here and there, perhaps some glasses or a ballistic helmet. On top of that, but with a lower probability, are the 300 rnd boxes, FNXs, FNX mags, binos, flashbangs, frag grenades, and 7.62x39 boxes. The lowest of the low probability IME is M4s themselves, but I've found four of them in total since 0.49. You won't really find clothing, apart from berets, although I think I've found a Blackskull balaclava at a UH60 site. Pretty sure you also won't find medkits or canteens - if you do, that's because someone's been there before and has discarded them. A looted site will have telltale empty mags and loose ammo lying around; perhaps something discarded that doesn't spawn there, left by a player making inventory space. However, it's surprising how many people will leave attachments, or 60 mags (for example) because they're only looking for something specific. People with pristine Magpul/ACOG M4s may be hacking. Or, as mentioned above, they may be players who have just been alive so long and have heli-hunted so determinedly that they have actually found what you have yet to find. -
Did another trade with Fr Popeye today. He may eat snails, but he's a thoroughly trustworthy guy.

Smersh Vests: Holy grail? + Mi-8 crash sites in general.
Mookie (original) replied to OmpaLompa's topic in General Discussion
No prob. A lot of servers still seem to be running the outdated warning. Mind you, I live in fear of it all disappearing for no reason all the time <_< -
Smersh Vests: Holy grail? + Mi-8 crash sites in general.
Mookie (original) replied to OmpaLompa's topic in General Discussion
Uh. you might be a bit behind the times. We had 0.49 on stable, and the wipe, about three weeks ago. -
Will trade the following: M4 MP guard (P) M4 MP stock (P) M4 M9A1 bayonet (P) FNX RDS (W) M4 CQB stock (P) Combat knife (P) M4 RV1 RDS (P) For...absolutely no idea, because I'm about as well geared as I can imagine being. Still, make me an offer. Pristine Mosin comp, or pristine M4 RiS guard perhaps.

Smersh Vests: Holy grail? + Mi-8 crash sites in general.
Mookie (original) replied to OmpaLompa's topic in General Discussion
Not as easy as spotting UH60s, because of the smoke, but you'd be surprised. Mi8s will still show up within 1000m in good weather, and are quite visible. Plus they spawn in the same locations, so you're likely to know where you're looking. I really wouldn't bother though :) -
Updated.

Getting stuck in a cycle of gestures?!
Mookie (original) replied to Kamikaze-X's topic in General Discussion
Getting stuck in a cycle of gestures? Doesn't that just mean that you live in a Western 'democracy'? For precisely that reason, you should welcome a deserted Chernarus as an Althusserian opportunity to live apart from liberal/liberatarian subjectivist forms. -
It's Lupus. Because I am Costanza, Lord of the Idiots. That is all.

How do I not panic/shake when I get in a gunfight?
Mookie (original) replied to cheeseburger8's topic in New Player Discussion
Define "easily". The real thing for me in fights is staying calm and thinking rationally about the least worst outcome, while the bullets are flying around me. As said above, experience in other online games can be a real benefit here. In Eve, for example, you have invested months, or more, of effort in your ship and putting it on the line is an immense risk. I don't get as jittery now as I used to, because I've lost too much in games by failing to retain situational awareness. In particular, having the best tool for the job at the right moment is crucial. In an urban fight, a Mosin or a pistol is often not the best idea, while a CQB M4 or an MP5 often are. And actually aiming at your target under pressure, instead of blinding spraying away, is an acquired skill. More than once I've started fights accidentally because of misunderstanding people's intentions or situations (eg assuming someone is firing at me rather than at the zombie(s) chasing them). And more than once I've tried to run when I should have camped, or have camped when I should have run. -
My current (much shorter!) list, following many successful trades, and a nasty server restart incident last night: AVAILABLE FOR TRADE: M4 MP guard (P) M4 MP stock (P) M4 CQB stock (P) Combat knife (P) M4 RV1 RDS (P) WANT: Mosin (camo painted and burlapped would be nice) Mosin compensator (W/P) M4 BUIS (P) Gorka Autumn camo pants (W/P) Thanks.

While they're a pain in the ass to find, crash sites spawn huge amounts of 5.56 in mags - usually over 100 rounds per (unlooted) crash. I have 640 rounds atm. They occasionally spawn 7.62x39 as well, but I agree, on the whole it's very rare - especially compared to 7.62x51.
-
It makes the RiS M4 guard and whatever-the-AK guard a bit pointless too. So, uh let's get on it devs m'kay? <_<
-
Based on constant loot running since 0.49 implementation, including a lot of crash site (probably over 200 site runs) and barracks running, I've seen pretty much everything else (including a single can opener...). but never a bipod. There seem to be none available for trade either. Given this, I'm assuming the bipod simply doesn't spawn in 0.49. This is bad.

Just traded with FR. Popeye. Very smooth deal, nice guy, completely trustworthy.
