Died cause of multiple bug /w Video
Mookie (original) replied to bersauron's topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure if this bug's been fixed or not (and apologies if it has), but if you find a mag, put it in the relevant gun and then fire it at something/someone, the bullets in the mag will be glitched so they don't register. That's why it's usually a good idea to empty and then refill such mags. Plus, not 100% (with the MP5 shots) that you can fire out of those barracks windows . The first Mosin shot certainly looks like it should have registered. But firing a long gun at close quarters is very difficult in this build... -
I'm at a trader base. No button I press seems to bring up the sell/buy browser. Any help? Thanks.

DayZ Launcher is Inefficient
Mookie (original) replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I appreciate you're (as far as I can tell) talking about the current ingame browser. But (at the risk of repeating myself) my experience of the DZSL is precisely as you describe it. The browser automatically downloads the mods you need to play the server you selected, and then you're in. -

Your point about the character screen is well made; as is the fact that vanilla should be much better at this stage. But specifically, playing on several community servers, all with different characters at different stages of development is just a lot more fun (for me) than maintaining one on the public hive who will inevitably come to a grisly end because of a bug or a dickhead KOSer. -
Enjoyed that story more than I enjoy most of the shouty ego-fests that are DayZ YouTube videos at the moment. FWIW, I've decided just to live my survivalist life in the middle of the map on a modded winter server, hunting game with my trusty M14 and listening serenely to the PvPers in the far distance murdering each other.

Anyone offer good advice (No haters please)
Mookie (original) replied to mullo's topic in General Discussion
Don't get hung up on M4s. Sure, they're great, and God knows I've fetishized them in the past, as thousands of hours will attest. But you spend hours finding one, then hours finding the attachments, and the then the suppressor, and then two days later you're in an obscure part of the map and some geezer shoots you in the face. Pilgrim's words are wise as usual. But my advice in terms of the game right now is; play modded servers via the DayZSA launcher/browser. I have no axe to grind, but it's a much more fun experience, plus multiple chars, plus any available mod you like. An M14 with a LRS is a lot more fun than an M4... -

You may need to update the mods in dzsa. My char appeared without his winter TTSKO trousers in the vanilla launch screen, but updating the mods worked a trick. If I want to play mods I use dzsa. If I want to play vanilla I use vanilla. I'm not sure they like talking to each other. But having discovered dzsa and the joys of mods a couple of days ago, it's a mystery why anyone is still playing the vanilla game - and that browser most of all... -
Lots of instances of 'vanishing' weapons turn out to be pilot error, often caused by double carrying. I should know, I've done it lots myself... Or server crashes ofc. Neither is ideal, but then neither is really a 'bug'.
-
Yep, this. The reason there can't be a 'fix' is because the problem is inherent in the server structure of the game. It was a niggling problem even when persistence 'worked' in previous builds. So whatever the discussion about 'optimism/pessimism' (in which people's frustrations about the game are displaced into hostility to each other...), there is a sound reason why the issue is just not amenable to the devs tweaking some code when they're back from holiday.

She died. Then she regenerated as Nordic dude. Now he has a shiny M4... I am looking for a pistol suppressor though, and may have some goodies. Not far from Zel - in Zvir in the far west. PM me.

My first char in .63 got geared. I logged off in a house in a very obscure spot in the far north. Logged in, and there's a guy there. He blew my head off. Fair enough - just bad luck. But if you're logging off in heavily populated and/or military areas, you're just increasing the probability of such bad luck. So don't. If you're server hopping, then ok, but it's a significant risk. Don't see why the game should make life easier in that respect.

I wonder if there is a "resistance" mechanic, such that eating nothing but tac bacon is going to make your chances of contracting something that much greater.... Not entirely joking.

Pilgrim, Kirov, both longstanding members of this forum and great contributors. No need for malignancy.

I'm aware of two - the one you get from pondwater, and the 'cold'. I caught the former from bad water. I got a sickness symbol, but my health didn't go down. The symbol vanished after a couple of hours, with no action taken by me (although I was en route to a medical centre in any case...) The causes of the 'cold' seem more obscure, and its effects more persistent. It also appears to be contagious between players. Codeine and antibiotics might work, but the jury's still out on that.

I distinctly remember a line, peddled hard by some here, that "alpha is all about adding items, and beta will be all about fixing bugs...." Hmmm. Nonetheless, after 9,000 hours, I still love the game. There are some things about this build - the overall look and sound of the game especially, the new places in the NW - that are good.
-
Visually it does , yes. But in previous builds we've had more intense cold or heat - like the one where everybody had to stay drenched all the time to prevent overheating (0.59?). I remember one of the devs (Eugen?) saying that all the climactic conditions and day/night cycles were closely aligned with what they were IRL.

Inversely, probably the only bug in "1.0" that didn't somehow kill me. -
Watery death—Do I leave a body?

"Hypothetically", I doubt it very, very much. Even if so, it would be on the sea bed wouldn't it? -
Where do you find medium/civilian tents?
Mookie (original) replied to bent.toe's topic in General Discussion
The logic is there. Part of logic, however, is distinguishing between a necessary condition (that it's possible something may spawn somewhere), and a sufficient one (that it will). -
Can you described what you mean, and which weapons are involved please?

System of create a new character
Mookie (original) replied to ScorpionYoxa's topic in General Discussion
I do understand - it's a huge pain that you can't create your own char when you die and respawn. That needs some thinking through. I keep thinking "there's some really obvious button that I'm not pushing", but I can't see it. So now I have ridiculous-blonde-guy-whose-straw-hair-clips-through-every-hat... -

Mookie (original) replied to bent.toe's topic in General Discussion
You crack it with experience. Or, if you really want to, by looking at things like iZurvive. But they take time to update as things change with a new patch. It sounds to me as if you want things to be where you want them to be, always and predictably. However, because something can spawn in a certain building does not mean it will spawn there. And the coast has always been a little light on spawns anyway - hence the second (or is it the third?) rule of DayZ - Get Off the Coast. I say again; no evidence that this means the loot system is 'broken'. It's just 'difficult'. I note in that thread you say you are 'not server hopping', but here you have 'hundreds of hours' of doing it. At least be honest. -
Actually gave me a little thrill seeing that. Thanks BI.
