I'm afraid I'll be withdrawing the M4, as a friend is in need of it. Sorry! Other items remain. Though confess I'm a bit worried about whether the CQB stock is actually spawning in 0.52....

[Next Patch] Character reset
Mookie (original) replied to Massaka_Schoasch's topic in General Discussion
I find it to be a very practical weapon. Once you're an effective heli hunter (which, I admit, is more difficult that it has ever been) and have two, three or more mags, ammo is actually pretty common if you know where to find it. Right now I have six full mags and 240 spare rounds in my ammo box. And the modular nature of the gun means it can cover lots of different ranges and contexts just by swapping attachments. -
Is it too late for night time servers?
Mookie (original) replied to Caboose187 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
A very high proportion of UK-based official servers are only running night time for the obvious reason that when they all kicked on after the DDOS attack immediately after 0.52, they did so at about 9 or 10pm local time, and pulled in that local time. They mainly run two or four hour restart timers, so...perma-night. It was quite new and refreshing at first. Now it's a bit old. -
I'm sometimes to go tent-hunting in likely areas. Suspect that these are towards the centre of the map, or towards the south east so that people can run to them pretty quickly if they respawn. But...also seems a bit pointless to ruin someone else's day when they're actually unlikely to have anything I want.

Really sorry to hear that George. Would be very happy to help you gear up again if I can.

Maybe this will help (maybe not...): http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/217503-how-to-avoid-character-resets-and-death-while-logging-off/ Using this kind of good practice, I've experienced a single reset in 1500 hours of game time (although it was heartbreaking - a 3.5 month old, very heavily geared char). I think it probably happened because I became so frustrated trying to find a server that didn't kick me that I just started clicking on anything and stopped paying attention to the "don't log in to a server that's just reset" rule.

[Next Patch] Character reset
Mookie (original) replied to Massaka_Schoasch's topic in General Discussion
This. Also, I'm not sure heli hunting and M4s counts entirely as 'wank factor'. I get a lot of satisfaction looking for and finding crashes, and trading what I find there, rather than running around killing and being killed. It's just a different play style. -
No way of filtering for non-persistence as far as I can tell. You just have to look for it in the title. Some servers don't declare it. Some say they are p:On, but are actually p:off, and vice versa. The overwhelming majority are p:on, as that's now the default server setting. The best way to manage it is with judicious use of your favourites tab.

To answer your tl;dr - it's a little of both. My impression post 0.49 ish is that guns (especially assault rifles) are just harder to find, as are their mags. Actually, even Mosins and SKSs are a bit tricker, and it's quite a long time since I've seen a rifle in a jail building. But there is also a specific issue with persistence whereby heavily looted areas (ie near the coast) are emptied of good stuff by passers-by, and then just...remain empty. The other issue is that heli crashes don't spawn on persistent servers, so good luck with that. The solution is to get off the coast as fast as you can, or join any non-persistent server you can, or (dare I say it) server hop even more manically.

I know an workaround for character reset in 0.52
Mookie (original) replied to lucianpin's topic in General Discussion
Or you just joined three janky servers on the trot. Which is perfectly do-able IME. It might help, but I just can't really understand why, when the database/hive is obviously on the server side. -

Mookie (original) replied to lucianpin's topic in General Discussion
I think most know the rule about getting off the server ASAP. But can you explain why you need to exit the game? In the numerous times I've evaded reset by getting off the server, I haven't needed to get out of the game. And I've suffered only one (albeit serious) reset in 1500 hours of play. -
Weapon tier list. Best and worst?
Mookie (original) replied to koroush47's topic in General Discussion
There was a pretty big thread on the New Players forum a month or two ago about this. It's all relative to play style. For real PvPers, it's probably the AKM, especially with a PSO option. For lone wolves it could be a scoped Mosin (depending on what, if anything, happens with sway). For out and out gear fetishists like me, it has to be the M4 - assuming you can find the attachments that play to the gun's greatest strength; its flexibility. (In b4 predictable "I killed a guy who had an M4 with my pipe wrench" comments....) Also, you might as well make it interesting and ask what the best combinations of a primary and secondary (ie sidearm) are. So scoped Mosin/MP5, M4/FNX, AKM/sawn-off, etc. Oh, and the inevitable considerations of ammo/mag availability. But it's all very rock/paper/scissors. -
People in this thread are really good about that sort of thing these days. Meanwhile: HAVE: FNX (P) w full mag (P) M4 RV1 optics (W) NATO suppressor (P) Eastern suppressor (P) Would like: M4 CQB stock (preferably P) Thanks.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fiercely independent Lone Wolf when it comes to roaming around Chernarus. For all this game's insane masochism, I just keep coming back for more - and I usually do best on my own. But this evening, as a small break from swaggering around with my perfect M4, SMERSH vest, etc, I fucked up badly. I pulled a deer steak out of the fire and ate it before it was cooked. So I got sick. My world turned grey in a way that normally only happens to freshies. So I sent an alarm - to those who had helped me in the past, at least in part because I'd helped them in the past. And these people ran to help me. They produced what I needed (charcoal tabs) within ten minutes of my plaintive cries. And within another ten minutes my world went from grey to glorious technicolour once more. Even if only at ten fps. So for all the KoS bullshit. For all the intensive masochism of DayZ. All I can say is it's nice to have friends. So get some. Normally, as I go about my despicable business IRL, I'm just as much a cynic, if not even more than most. But this episode has briefly, touchingly perhaps changed my view of modern human 'nature'. My thanks to the glorious, enormously genitalled George Smiley and his accomplice in charity larsehh_

That works for fractures (assuming you can drag yourself all the way there), but not for The Sickness I'm afraid. Nonetheless, thanks to the Brotherhood of Trading, I am now alive and well.

Not the first time I've heard about a huge ass helping me out. Cough.

Average Lone Wolf Wouldnt Survive
Mookie (original) replied to pale1776's topic in General Discussion
Co-operation is not needed. Right until the point when you actually do need it (ie near death). Then you will do anything for it. This is probably as much true IRL as it is in game IME. -
EMERGENCY. All of my trade goods, right now (SMERSH vest, etc) for ten charcoal tabs at Myshkino tents. Please don't let me die geezers.....

Assumptions don't tend to work out that well in this game tbh. Apologies if I misinterpreted your reply - "lame" has a specific meaning for aging gamers like me. In answer to George and Jeremy ( :P ), the bipod could actually be quite helpful in theoretically extending the M4's range, even if that didn't make it a sniper's first choice. I don't think I'm alone in hoping for a reintroduction, although I'd prefer a sorting out of the relationship between crash sites and persistence above all else...
-
Unless I have an offer soon, I'm either going to give this excellent loot to my trusted trading partners, or just dump it. I need the inventory space for beans. :D
-
Uh, sorry. I was trying to be helpful. You can go on asking for them if you like, but as they don't exist, you're not going to get very far.
-
I'm afraid that bipods don't currently exist in the game. They were taken out of loot spawns in 0.48 (IIRC) and then deleted entirely in the 0.49 wipe.
