A UK assault vest, or a high cap vest? Not the same thing...

Have you ever run into the only other guy on the server?
Mookie (original) replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
Just after the 0.53 wipe I was gearing up after running towards the NW from Cherno. Found a truck and drove it to the Myshkino tents on a two person server, found an SKS, etc. Felt pretty well geared. Trying to get the truck back up that steep hill from the direction of Sosovny Pass, I gave up and got out in the woods. At that moment, the other player on the server runs straight past me, about 3m away. Frightened the life outta me. I told him to stop and he did briefly. I considered popping him, but it didn't look like he had a gun (he was brandishing a sickle). Knowing I'd just taken all the best loot at the tents, I offered him the truck if he wanted to take it, but he just ran off into the woods. I bet if he'd had a gun he would have taken a shot at me.... -
to the guy i killed at Bolota ATC with 5 pelican cases full of ammo and grenades:

If the God box duping is still going on, it's a pretty sad indictiment of the game's progess tbh. I've worked hard to get good gear, so feel this sad trade should be condemned absolutely. Dupers on one hand, squeakers with parents' credit card on the other. Not a pretty sight. -
M65? Nice, lots of storage. But not waterproof :(

You've answered your own question. Those "accessories" make a real difference to the M4 in the game. Magpul stock and h/guard gives lower dispersion (ie more accuracy). ACOG, while not yet modelled accurately, at least gives some medium range capability. The CQB stock, on the other hand, offers better dexterity for short range, etc, etc. The numbers for how these effects are modelled in game are all out there somewhere, and they're significant. I'm talking about the guns in the game, where "gas in the face", barrel swaps, etc aren't really a factor... The AUG may be more accurate IRL, or with a different scope. But the scope it has in the game right now is pretty bad. I'd rather have an RV1 for example. But hey, if you don't like it that's your choice. I do...

Updating. Have: Combat knife (P) 15 rnd PM3 RAK mag (P, full) ACOG (W) Seeking: Green or black balaclava (P/W) Green or camp tieable bandana BUIS (P) Thanks.

I think the view is that the AUG will eventually became much more modular (so much more like the M4), potentially with a heavier barrel option (for LMG use), sights, etc. However, that's probably a hell of a long way off... Have to say that I'd only bother picking up an AUG in its current state if I had nothing else. IME, the M4 is way better, if you can find ACOG, MP parts, etc.

Stable branch remains on 0.54. Experimental updated to 0.55 yesterday. If the motive for your question is whether the AUG will ever accept the Eastern suppressor, the answer is almost certainly no, because it's a NATO rifle. As far as I can make out, NATO suppressors are not currently spawning in 0.54.
-
Well if you've made that work then good for you. But speaking personally, there's no way on earth I'd agree to those terms. Point is that the risk to each party needs to be equivalent - a kind of detente. If you're 500m away pointing a scoped Mosin at me, that equation is all to obviously skewed.
-
Yeah Malm's ok. The problem is that mad truck driver he hangs out with. ^_^ Have: Combat knife (P) 15 rnd PM3 RAK mag (P, full) ACOG (W) Seeking: BUIS (P) RV1 (P) CQB (P) All of my offered goods, for only one of my sought goods. Thanks.

Absolutely this. Last night, on a three person server, I did a huge tour of the whole map in a V3S (took about 45 minutes). While pootling through Elektro, some dingbat was taking potshots at my truck. Let me reiterate. This guy was sniping from the hill or from the fire station towers, on a three person server. I'd rather browse Wikipedia tbh. If you know where to look for people, you will find them.

genuinely annoyed - outhouse problems
Mookie (original) replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
I do appreciate that your first language is probably French. Nonetheless, we travelled 3000 miles and spent a few decades trying to build some good outhouses for tomatoes and corn and stuff, aided by our noble Native American friends. Then you turned them into sh*thouses and murdered 99% of our friends, so unfortunately we had to leave. -
Are NATO suppressors actually spawning? I've yet to see one in 0.54, or to see one offered here.
-
Yes, this is an important point - try to interpret each others' intentions as generously as you can ( W V Quine's Principle of Charity, etc). It's when people misunderstand each other that things get screwed up. But balance that against the fact that the longer it all takes, the more arrangements are agreed, and then changed, the more likely it is that the other party is trying to set up something hostile (or at best is just a knob). The stickied trading thread here is probably the best place to see offers and to respond to them via PM. We have a community that knows each other, and which is friendly to first timers. Trust within this community is a very important factor, and helps cut down on having to follow too many rules all the time between ourselves.

Mmmm. I've been thinking about this lately for one reason or other, and agree that perhaps a framework would help. I'm not an entirely inexperienced trader, and standards do seem to have slipped just a tad lately. As rare loot seems to become that much rarer (as more items spawn in game so net probabilities are reduced), and as heli hunting only works on p:off servers, trading has become a more intense occupation, in which (it seems to me) there is more pussy footing going on. The fundamental problem actually isn't people getting blapped by their erstwhile trading partner. It's more people making noises and then failing to follow through, or re-evaluating their options. On more than one recent occasion this has led to me (perhaps naively) running from one end of the map to the other, only to find that people are simply AWOL. US/EU time differences might be a factor here, but 36 hours is a lot of time. I guess there's a very obvious difference between 1:1 trades of the kind I do, and the trading areas/events that people like Burnaya carry out (which are much more complex). Anyway, some suggestions: 1. If you make, or respond to a trade offer, you should be prepared to carry it out within 24 hours. Otherwise you potentially limit each other's capacity to just hang out and enjoy the game in general... 2. You should usually come alone to a trade, with your primary weapon shouldered (unless you have to double carry for the purposes of the trade) 3. You should always be prepared to Steam friend your prospective trading partner 4. You should both be prepared to trade on a neutral, and ideally low pop server for a first trade, although in practice you both need to accept some compromise. 5. You should try to meet at a geographical halfway point, using DayZDB coordinates for relatively isolated buildings as an ideal. 6. You should carry out negotiations re the above via PM, rather than in public (partially for your own safety) 7. You should not, repeat NOT, ever carry out a trade at your tent(s) or stash in general. 8. If something does go wrong that is beyond your control (eg server restart, other party crashes out) you should do your best to resolve the situation fairly, leaving no bitter aftertaste of pisstaking. I'm sure there are more.

Oh Christ, not that again. Also, "outhouse" means something different here in the Old Country. What you colonials mean is sh*thouse. -
Glad to have Dagwood back too. Completely trustworthy trader.

accuracy improvemnt through bipod
Mookie (original) replied to Munson_fry (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I might do a bit of testing on this with my M4 later on - between pristine MP guard and RIS/bipod (although the bipod improvement only used to work if you were prone). There also used to be a set of published numbers which set out the dispersion improvement, and I'll see if I can find that too. But ofc that would have referred to earlier patches, before the bipod was taken out of the game (0.48?) and then reintroduced in 0.54. -
The magnificent M4A1 of course. inb4 "I've killed 3000 M4 guys with a pipe wrench/sickle/P1", etc, etc. Sure, it's a bitch to find, and even more difficult to properly equip. But once it has pristine MP parts and ACOG for medium range, and CQB stock/red dot/BUIS for urban stuff, it's the best all-rounder in the game for me. I think I'm right in saying it's still the only gun in the game with selectable semi/auto fire modes too. Have to admit I have a soft spot for the SKS though.

Indeed you did. Apologies.

Tried logging out and back in to the server? Works if I put things down and they disappear, etc. This does seem to be quite server-dependent though.

My thanks to Insoliciously, Malmborg and larsehh for a busy evening's trading.

Don't trust it. I'm not sure that was his point - he was agreeing with me about increasing unreliability in these parts (wasn't he?). Also, please don't snipe offers to me. Thanks.

I'm gonna have to dump this lot soon if no one wants it.
