Much as I hate to admit it, I have some sympathy with Caboose here. Whatever the stats, most people with an AKM will tend to spray (apart from you uber PvPers to whom that never happens). But people with SKSs tend to fire a rapid series of reasonably well aimed shots. Certainly at over 50m or so, my weenie M4 and I would much prefer to be up against an AKM guy with a 75 mag that anyone with more than an iota of sense and an SKS.

What do yu want in DayZ servers these days?
Mookie (original) replied to sneakydudes's topic in General Discussion
Now we're cooking with gas. That's a great idea (not that you won't get some crap for suggesting it....) -
Can you say what you're offering pls? Thanks.

An end to admins abusing the public hive, mis-describing their servers, kicking people, and all the rest of it please. Oh yeah, and real persistence... -
PM'd. But only if MILN/Yazar's offer falls through!

Character reset after visiting dubious server.
Mookie (original) replied to Jonah_Hobbes's topic in General Discussion
The mechanic is relatively well known, although I've yet to encounter it happening deliberately. I don't really see how a server admin could deliberately reset you. But they might have control over a message that (wrongly) tells you that. Are you 100% you have been reset? -
OK, look I apologise in advance for being a bit pious here. But comparing serious mental health conditions (and it is a serious condition, that kills people) to pixels is a bit like Yazar comparing his denuded M4 to a "Downs baby". Please don't. Sermon over.

Seconding this - Trev is a good trader.

Simulating verbal communication with mic chat
Mookie (original) replied to Pokerguy12's topic in General Discussion
I can't remember the last time I said "I'm friendly". It's so devalued and cliche'd now. I find it better to say hello, ask how someone is and if there is anything they need, preferably from a position of relative safety. Their attitude over the next 5-10 seconds determines how the encounter is going to go. I seem to remember someone (perhaps a dev?) talking about the possibility of whisper chat quite recently. -
All still available.

Stable. Has been happening all day on lots of different servers. I seem to remember it happening before in 0.54 occasionally, but now seems constant.
-
I'm finding this entirely reproduceable. Happens every time I have something in my hands (usually my M4). Have to cancel action and then do it again. Definitely not desync.

Hello all. Have: AK bayonet (P) Eastern suppressor (W) Pistol suppressor (P) Seeing: Protector cases (P/W) Thanks

A lot of confusion is spread by server names. Sometimes this is accidental (just aren't updated when changed), sometimes deliberate. There's a UK server which is deliberately titled to look official, but from which I've been kicked several times.
-
I can see why people get interested in the idea. But it's philosophically a bit difficult, as has some of the benefits of a private server (mainly access control), while remaining on the public hive. There's a point of view that says if you're on the public hive, then you just have to live with a community which sadly includes douches. Some recent investigations seemed to show that it was also very, very complicated (and expensive) to arrange in practice now - though may have been easier in the past.

Chain fences started showing up as a missing texture post 0.54 too... Everyone's looking forward to the new renderer. -
I find a truck and deliberately drive to the opposite end of the map from home base. Then I join a hi pop server and work my way back. It's not that much of a hobby...
-
I notice some trucks are like F1 cars, while others are tired and slow. Do they vary in condition? If a server restarts when I'm in a truck, am I a dead man? I've noticed a few trucks lying around with no tyres, that I can't get into (though I can open the doors). Have they somehow been shot up by their erstwhile inhabitants? Thanks
-
I've actually found it easier in 0.54 to find M4s than attachments in good condition. It is possible that you've just been very unlucky, or that people are just picking up the M4s and leaving other stuff. Stick with it...

too many "do not join" servers to report
Mookie (original) replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
I and the other contributors to this thread disagree with your apparent feeling that you should be able to pay for an unreasonable advantage in the public hive game. You don't really seem to have an answer to this point, or in fact to understand it at all - hence the insults I guess. -
When you know you play too much Dayz :p
Mookie (original) replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
...when you see a camo beanie hat on a pile of bricks while walking past a building site and have to pick it up (true story) ...when you're on the escalators in London evaluating the capacity and condition of the tourists' backpacks ....when you see news video of the Ukraine conflict, start admiring the tac vests and AKs and then feel your heart jump as it pans to a distant column of smoke far away... (tasteless, I know - sorry) -
60 shots with M4 without touching the magazine?
Mookie (original) replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it's unrealistic. Mind you, to expect a 75 round drum magazine to operate perfectly smoothly without jamming is probably a bit unrealistic too. In an ideal world it would be good to have random gun jams (say 1 in 50 chance or something). M4s are probably more prone to this IRL than AKs? -
too many "do not join" servers to report
Mookie (original) replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
Oh stop with the children and crying comments. It's the public hive. The people who are doing it are exploiting and doing so because they either can't be bothered to pay for a private server, or want to have an unreasonable advantage over the rest of us. Your solution - for everyone to pay for their own server (where presumably you'd be happy for them to kick anyone who tries to join it) sounds to me pretty much like what you do. That's why you always pop up in these threads with the same tired line. -
too many "do not join" servers to report
Mookie (original) replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
Because being on the public hive means we should have access to their server. They may well have paid for it, but if they're going to be on the public hive then there are rules they must comply with. Those rules are intended to avoid trying to mislead other players or continually kicking other players to farm in peace - which is a form of exploit (actually one of the worst forms). If an admin doesn't in principle want me or anyone else on their server, they should damn well pay the excess for a private hive. Oh, and in answer to your rather lame 'go elsewhere' point - of the servers in my part of the world, something like 75% are servers of this kind.
