What is it that drives you to play DayZ a lot?
Mookie (original) replied to doctorbadsign's topic in New Player Discussion
Honestly? I should have got a Box 1 in the performance appraisal for my job this year. I did all the planning for the UK General Election and did it well. But I got a Box 2 because I stay up all night playing this awful game and thereby arrive a bit late every day. It genuinely sucks, and I have no idea why I do it. I really think I just need to suffer somehow. -

Masochism. -
I didn't know that, so beans. I thought the medication vial was just a more intense form of the antibiotics. My instinct with chemical poisoning was that inducing vomiting would probably be the only thing to try.

Going bandit hunting before wipe tonight
Mookie (original) replied to vfxtodd's topic in General Discussion
Agreed. I'm heading down to the coast to see just how fast I can turn my soon-to-be-extinct M4 from pristine to badly damaged. And I'm taking at least two repair kits with me. -
Yesterday I managed to kill a chicken (not that easy actually) and then cook it on my fireplace using a tripod and cooking pot - the first time cooking for me since the simple cooking-on-the-fire mechanic was taken out. I did not need to add water to the pot though.

Uh, I was practising my sniping last night and would suggest it's time you let her go. It wasn't her, it was you, etc, etc.

Mookie's Great Wipe Bonanza Have: AK101 (P), with PSO (P), rail handguard (P), folding stock (P), two full mags, and extra 5.56mm ammo Seeking: 7.62x54 ammo. Lots of it - more than 80 rounds for the above. Thanks.

Most detested item in Persistence
Mookie (original) replied to Jonah_Hobbes's topic in General Discussion
Teddy bears with damaged pieces of paper in them. Sigh. Teddy bears should have good things in them - can openers, suppressors, etc, like they did at Christmas time. -
Heh. In this case it wasn't (although third parties might have turned it into one after I'd left). Very generous of Trev.

The Bone Condition Stat (Why you get one hit)... Why does it exist?
Mookie (original) replied to Beizs's topic in General Discussion
I remember Hicks (?) tweeted after Agathor discovered it, to say it was unintended, a legacy issue and wouild be sorted. Very nice to see that this has come to pass. -
Well, they're completely broken now because the devs are having problems making them work with persistence. Given other issues, I can't really see much effort going into trying to fix them, and one of the commitments is that they become dynamic events (eg you actually see the chopper come down in a random location). I'm guessing the devs will wait until then - probably quite a long way off - before fixing them. I could be wrong though.

Caboose is an all-round classy gentleman. Oh yes. Excellent posts Bororm - completely agree with you about the levels of presumption and prejudice from some posters.

In fact I only took an ACOG for my existing M4, an AK101, a combat knife and some other bits and pieces. My ping was well over 250 (US west coast server, I'm UK), but the game seemed very smooth. No emu, I can promise you that wasn't me. I'm a nice guy :) Thanks again Trev, and good luck with the Masters.
-
Big thanks to you for this Trev. At least I can go out before the wipe in a blaze of glory... I'm such an M4 fetishist that I can't really imagine playing the game without trying to find one, so I might take a break until they fix crash sites.

Stop telling folks to take a break.

Um, can you install the mod and the SA at the same time? -
Faced with the prospect of a long run across the map to do a trade a couple of days ago, I was very happy to find a truck abandoned in the woods near Zeleno. The drive that followed, though, was if anything much more life-threatening than the yomp I had to do to get back. Here are some of the reasons, perhaps someone can benefit from them. The game seems particularly laggy for me at the moment. The pain about this in a truck is that if you lag on a bend you will lose control and smash into a tree. So laggy did the server become that it locked up completely driving through Berenzino, and I got 'session lost'. Fearing either death or, best case, finding myself back to the west of Gorka (last time I'd got out), the DayZ Gods smiled on me when I managed to get back in to the server. I was all there, and the truck was about 200m down the road. If you drive through towns, the Zs that run towards you from the front are a real hazard. They will damage the truck, and come close to flipping it over completely if you're unlucky. By the time I finally got to Svet, this happened for the third time, and the truck hung itself up on a wall. No trucking back for me. :( Trucks are complete zombie magnets. If you get stuck and there are two or three on the back, don't feel too scared about getting out and running. At least for the time being, they will be more interested in the truck than you. V3S spawns seem to be either broken or non-existent at the moment. Sorry if this is already common knowledge, but I haven't seen a freshly spawned truck since before the weekend. Always turn the engine off before you get out, and if the axis of the truck is on a slope, get out of the side facing up the slope. Remember that if the server restarts while you are in a truck, you will respawn at the last place you were when you were out of it. So if you're doing a long trip, it's worthwhile getting out now and then so that if there's a restart you're not completely back where you began. Anyway, hope this helps someone.

Used to be that if someone on the same server as you had eaten human flesh, you'd get that scary cackling noise following you around everywhere in the dark. That was a fun feature.

I think in this context "the hive" = character wipe. At any rate if you assume the worst and it's not the worst = profit. If you assume not the worst, but it then is the worst = disappointment...

looks like .56 will be a character wipe..saw msg in server earlier
Mookie (original) replied to thewire's topic in General Discussion
In the nicest possible way, you don't want it to be true because it means you've kind of wasted a lot of effort. There are a lot of people who feel the same, but we've had wipes before (I remember .49 and .53) and you do get over it and get back on the horse. The two things for me are that, precisely because there are different means of duping, the devs should not overstate the "once and for all" effect of any wipe attempting to deal with it. And please can we fix crashsites. Please don't let it be that the devs will wait until they can be made dynamic events - because that must be a long way off. -
Actually...could this be a thing? In Eve Online, have: Loki strategic cruiser with all T3 modules, autocannon fit In DayZ seeking: FNX with at least two mags.
-
We're talking about server dynamics and discussing potential improvements, not complaining about 0.55.

When the truck respawns, it will respawn full of fuel and fully repaired. Does this explain your perpetually full tank? Yes, I think when a hung-up truck respawns it will be un-hung up. My experience with the chassis body is that the Zs often do get on the back of it - as if it had a rack bed. I had three on by the time I had to get out and run in Svet. You're right though, if you're in motion, they'll often get tangled up in the chassis.
-
Maybe that's already occurred to me. However, my name has no special characters in it. At all.
-
OP, you think that's bad? Your deaths will become that much more painful, the longer you manage to stay alive. Welcome to the most masochistic, bar none, 'game' ever created.
-
Jeez, just saying... Also, expected.
