Fair point. Suggest best weapon for killing at >300m? I don't know what the Sporter's ballistics are like at that range, but am interested in giving it a try.

Having used both the Winchester and the SVD, my vote goes firmly to the former. The range finding function on the PSO is really helpful. But there are two issues with that scope - first, the markings are pretty faint (which can be a pain in bad light) and second the 4x zoom is just not enough - especially if you're used to the hunting scope. More importantly In practice, even once you've found the gun, SVD ammo and mags are scarce - really scarce. I see 10x as much .308 ammo as 7.62x54. With a Winchester I can just pootle around, secure in the knowledge that I have 120 rounds in my pack. With an SVD I had to be very conservative about who or what I was shooting at.

People put up tents all the time for the hell of it. Because persistence is off, they're not worth doing anything else with.

Stone knife. Takes two minutes to craft and opens cans pretty cleanly.

We should club together to get Lars an in-game birthday present. He is 28 today, so clearly is incapable of sex or anything else that could make a contribution to society. Nonetheless, over multiple trades, he has never managed to actually kill me, so unless someone else takes my AKM and all it's goodies I will donate them to him, perhaps light a fire, etc...

I've never (yet) lost anything from my back or inventory, but double carrying is as much a pain in the ass as ever. The point about slotted items (eg cooking posts, raincoats) in your inventory just taking things when you interact with them (eg opening cans of food) is a good one and is at least sometimes the explanation for 'disappearing' items bug. Not always though.

I thought it was confirmed that the UMP was simply not in .57? I've never see a 101 or an M4 so tend to assume that they're not spawning either.

What , you had to time to pen that little ode while being assaulted by three Zs? Hmm. Anyway, I neglected to notice that it was exactly midnight, tried logging in to a new server and got wiped, after a solid three weeks of pretty successful pillaging. So a pretty shit day tbh.

Sadly, having owned a glorious SVD for about a week, I got wiped last night. :huh: Gonna take a break for a while - perhaps come back when the M4 makes its reappearance...

Not sure about that. I try to stay bright green energised/hydrated/healthy at all times Even with all three lit, I will be thirsty within half an hour or so of running around. I do think the hydration mechanic is a bit too onerous as it stands. Perhaps you mean 'hours before you actually die' though... :P

SMERSH kit is very buggy at the moment btw. Last night I found a pristine vest at a heli crash and on balance swapped it out with my hicap, feeling confident I could find a backpack pretty quickly. I did, but the pack was damaged. Ho hum, attach pack to vest. Combo comes up as damaged. Ho hum. Find pristine pack a bit later. Oooh goody. Empty combo and attach pristine pack to pristine vest. Combo comes up as damaged. >:(

Anything can be damaged through trauma (being hit, falling, crashing a truck, being shot). This will be roughly relative to where you are struck - so if you fall off something and break your legs, your shoes and trousers will be damaged, as will items within them. If you die to a hot in the head, items in your backpack and clothing should not be damaged.Footwear degrades over time (the more you run about in it, the faster it goes from P to D to R). Fixable with leather repair kit.Weapons briefly degraded according to use (in 0.54 and 0.55 - if I remember right), but that doesn't seem to be operating in 0.57, or if it is, it's very slow. Fixable with Weapon repair kit.Silencers will degrade according to the calibre of the weapon being fired with them (so .22 should be a bit slower than 7.62x54)Food (meat, open cans, fruit, etc) does not degrade.Using other items for some tasks will cause them to degrade (such as using knives to open cans, or axes to cut wood or kill Zs)Using repair kits of one kind or another will degrade them relative to the scale of the fix involved (so going from badly damaged to pristine will likely reduce your sewing kit from pristine to damaged).I don't think anything else degrades, but not sure about things like bows, fishing rods, etc.

I had a pretty good weekend, finding an SVD and a mag on a single server, and then finding another mag several hours later on. This turned sour when, briefly getting confused by ladder mechanics, I fell ass-backward out of a deerstand and somehow damaged the PSO-1 on the SVD. You know that thing we do where we go most of the way up the ladder to see what loot's actually there? Be careful with that... But finding a pristine combat knife and two more SVD mags yesterday evening were some consolation. Good luck trying to trade just for a PSO. :blush:
