I agree. And it's not that far off in a way. There may be quite a big PR job to be done to recreate the buzz of the initial alpha release, and get that very large number of people to come back to the game. I wonder how far ahead BI have thought about all that?

My figures are fine. If you'd like to dispute what proportion 13,000 is of 3.166m go ahead. You dispute my premise that the daily figures are representative of the active player count. I can understand that, but that's logic - how valid my inference is from the premise - not maths. So far you've tried moving from saying that 3% is 6x 0.5% (ok, but this is an old statistical trick). Now you're playing semantics with the definition of 'logic', following up with a cheap pop at whether I've been involved in hacking. I have no affiliation with either WCI or Burnaya; never have had, save occasional trading with the latter. You're running out of road here...

My maths is fine. 13,000 is definitely 0.41% of 3,166,000. You might not agree with the underlying assumptions, but that's not maths, that's logic. Speaking of which, of course 3% is 6x higher than 0.5%, but you're deliberately conflating absolute with relative percentages. Either way, the number of people playing, at least on a daily basis is a tiny proportion of people who have paid for the game.

Would you support global chat being a sever option?

    Prefer radios please.

If what you mean is 'maths', no it's not. Work out what %age of 3,166,000 13,000 represents... It's actually 0.41% I take the point that this does not mean that's how many are left actually playing the game over (say) the course of the day or the week. So let's assume your 100k visitors a day is correct. 100,000 visitors a day represents 3.15% of those who have paid for the game.

    Let's talk about "hide sites"

When persistence did work, the issue for me was balancing the remoteness of where I was placing my camp, relative to the accessibility of water (especially). The far, far west (with one or two exceptions) is not great for this. Having recce'd quite a lot of the far north, it seems much better for this, so I may make camp up there - Krasnoe seems like a good area. Depending on the availability of tents and barrels, most will have more than one camp though. I'm also a fan of the woods around Mogilevka and Dolina - nice area.

    Trading Post

Can ppl remember to state whether they are in exp or stable please? This is a particular problem at the moment, as a relatively high proportion have moved from stable to exp while everyone waits for .58. Thanks

Yes, I can see that. Although 'active' is probably a bit of a spectrum.

So about 0.5 per cent of the people who have bought the game are still actually playing it? I know a lot of people are waiting for .58 to come to stable but....phew.

Agree. You might as well have a separate thread for each private server...

Why is the north so laggy?

This is absolutely true. For me, getting into the towns along the northern east-west main road is a slideshow - much worse than Cherno or the other big towns. Driving a truck, at speed through the towns along that road is hilarious...

    Where is a boar

Try Nadezhdino, round the back of the houses on the SE side. There's often a pig there, I might have seen a boar once or twice there. Other than that, I think I've seen a boar 'in the wild' only once in .57 - and he ran fast.

Anyone else have a huge problem with combat?

Absolutely this. I tend to avoid CQB, so it's only happened a few times, but annoying as hell when it does. That said, I find it pretty easy to avoid shooters at longer ranges

    Never ever friendly again

Most of the good in-game friends I have, I met through the trading thread. It's a good, structured way of meeting people. If someone decides to shoot someone else - either at the trade or later - they will get marked down and have difficulty trading again (vide my sig).

Now that's downright spooky, I have that song on right now...

    Getting killed by bandits

If you're on the coast, you will be shot. The further inland you are, the less this is so, IME, because people are better geared, playing in a more lone wolf way, and have more to lose in combat situations.

    Where has the fun gone?

I have about 2,500 hours in standalone. While things have been a bit rough since March, I still enjoy it, although not as much as I hope to enjoy 0.58. For me one of the fundamentally good things about the game is that you can choose your own playstyle determined in part by the nature of the servers you're going into. If I feel the need to explore, travel, try different features, I'll log in to a low pop. If I want interaction or PvP I'll choose a high pop... Successful implementation of persistence will be a big factor here. It will give people what is effectively a save-game function so that the long term survivalists (me, basically) have a greater incentive to take risks.

    Interesting, even surprising stats.

I am really, really looking forward to .58 coming to stable, and think a lot of other people are too. If all goes well and is as advertised (persistence, back to random crashes, etc) it could be excellent - all the best facets of the game at the same time. The downside is that there just doesn't seem to be a lot of point in playing the current stable build, and I guess that goes for a helluva lot of people.

Assuming this is on .58 exp, as MP5 stocks don't spawn in .57...

    Compensator

Dispute away - the principle is well understood: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muzzle_brake It's not really about your body.

Public and Exp server restart times?

The most common restart times on stable are a four hourly cycle from noon GMT - so then 4pm, 8pm, midnight, 4am, 8am. Some do also restart every two hours. not sure quite how much flexibility server owners are offered, or whether hourly restarts (an some server names claim) are actually real. It seems many exp servers are similar, but it varies more because exp is updated more often.
  23. Mookie (original)

    Found an M4, now what...

Oh, well that's all good then... I'm not arguing for them to be more common btw - just that the provenance of those in current 0.57 stable seems a little off.

    G.P.S.

There are at least three "castles" - Black Mountain, Devil's and Zub. I haven't needed a GPS to find them. This has nothing to do with respect and everything to do with the resourcefulness you need to survive and get around.

    G.P.S.

The orienteering is one of the best bits of the game, especially when you're new. The latest generation of players seem to want everything on a plate for them - hence this thread, and the legions of "where do I find X?" versions. Man up. please.
