What are the current big military areas of the map?
Mookie (original) replied to Leto (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Your best bet for an AKM mag is at the larger barracks buildings at the NWAF - or they sometimes spawn in the hangars. I have a spare one if you need it - PM me if so. -
IME jay is right. I've yet to see an M4, and there have been none traded since 0.59. Some of the trading clans are very, very good at finding things and they have yet to see an M4 in game. If I remember right, Hicks said that the M4 was spawning after the 0.57 hotfix and it wasn't - those that were in game had been duped/hacked. He was just mistaken - it happens. The mags spawn and so does the BUIS, but that's it.

Can do 2x 60rnd 5.56mm mags. Will trade for .308 ammo (at least 60rnds)
-
More heli hunting... Just traded for two with RyanH and he found them at crash sites within the past 24 hours or so.

Always a pleasure trading with RyanH - first guy I ever traded with and as reliable and generous as usual :)

are helicopter crash static or moving in 0.59?
Mookie (original) replied to claws4life's topic in General Discussion
I haven't seen one spawn without loot in 0.59. Although it would be unusual not to have even a pair of damaged boots lying around, it's more likely that it got cleaned out - possibly by more than one player - than that it spawned without any loot... Unless there's some kind of CLE dynamic going on here  . edit: and yeah, what nuke said. -
What are the best towns to loot in DayZ?
Mookie (original) replied to maximumak777 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Nomenklatura and Dosvidanya are excellent loot town - M4s just lying around. I think they're in the north west of the map somewhere. Check em out. -
are helicopter crash static or moving in 0.59?
Mookie (original) replied to claws4life's topic in General Discussion
Confirming that helis are definitely working. Finding them in the usual spots. OP, you've just been unlucky. There are better ways of finding crashes than running around NWAF though... -
Obviously fps. Lawl yourself.

It's worse for me - significantly - in 0.59. In fact, at a cumulative level, it's getting worse and worse with each patch. Guess I need a new machine...but in the absence of one, the FPS issue makes PvP pretty much impossible, and everything else mildly unpleasant. Have to say I enjoyed the game much more 18 months ago, when it had fewer features and what seemed like a much faster frame rate.

Persistence? Oil Barrels, Tents and Backpacks Working?
Mookie (original) replied to ted striker's topic in General Discussion
Barrels certainly seem to work - assuming the server doesn't go down or the admin decide to start kicking you... :| -
Make sure to report public servers that kick for no reason
Mookie (original) replied to aurien's topic in General Discussion
This is usually a big problem after a new patch that involves a wipe - when individuals essentially pay to play by kicking. There are a variety of means. Some use auto-kick bots, some do it manually, some rampantly advertise the fact in their server names. Trying to get back into the game over the past couple of days, it's happened so frequently (roughly 1/3 of all servers I've tried to log into) that I could spend my entire time reporting them. No, I'm not hopping, I'm just trying to get into a playable server. This is not helped by the fact that a high proportion of 'official' servers in my neck of the woods are broken. The incentives here are clearly in favour of people doing this rather than not doing it, and something more substantial needs to be done IMHO. -
Not looking good at my end either. I do have a UMP though. Liking the way the Nissen Huts/Whatever are now only spawning crap loot. And that Myshkino tents are now swarming with Zs, just like 0.57.

Look at the statistics. Immediately after launch, the average number of players online was around 23,000. By April this year, that had dropped to around 10,000. It is now around 5,000. This represents a significant long-term decline since Standalone's launch - not a symptom of Fallout 4, not a couple of whiny Twitchers, but a trend that, if continued, will soon bring the game down to hundreds of players globally. I'm not very happy about it, nor is anyone, but for BI and the familiar faces here to whistle in the dark about it isn't going to change it.

Don't get me wrong - I have absolutely got my money's worth from the game. I think it's a fantastic idea. As to whether it's my own fault - well...the numbers solidly support the fact that I am not alone. This thread seems to be loving away from the OP's point about the issue of the dwindling playerbase (which I assume is a serious issue, especially if you're talking about alpha testers), to the same old thread we've all read a thousand times. The operational point is that the number of active players has been dwindling for a year or so, and now stands at its lowest point. How low does it have to get for development to essentially stop being EA in all but name? I don't think the reasons why people have stopped playing are really, in the long term, about FO4, other distractions, etc. They're about the same old problems with the game (especially lag and desync) simply not being solved. At this point everyone will pipe up and say 'that is solved in beta, not alpha'. Perhaps rightly so. But at this rate of decline the playerbase will be well under 3,000 active players on stable at any one time. How low does that number have to get? Or is it completely incidental in the light of Orlok's (helpful) assurances??

After getting on for 3000 hours in game over the past 18 months, I'm very sorry to say that things are looking really bad. I have absolutely no desire to play any more - nor do any of the friends I've made in game. The lag, the bugs, and most of all the increasing gap between the positive spin from BI and the actuality of playing it - they've all just worn a lot of people down. I'm also very sorry to say that this is going to confirm some of the fears that people had when the game first moved from mod to standalone (which personally I don't share btw) - that the huge amount of money made from EA sales was not backed through investment in development.
-
Only three M4s? That's pathetic tbh. Put your back into it man. Also, no pristine Smersh set, etc. I'd post a photo of mine, but it's really just too big. Ahem. Anyway, any news on whether our enormous assets will be wiped with 0.59?

what's with the mannequin animals
Mookie (original) replied to Red_Ensign's topic in General Discussion
My experience in 0.58 is that for the most part animals stand stock still, and then as soon as I shoot them, they disappear. Not run away or anything good, but just disappear from view. Clearly bugged, great if they're fixed in .59. I wonder if the food poisoning mechanic has also been tweaked, as in the early days of 0.58, when I did manage to kill and skin animals, the chances of catching food poisoning (after cooking the steaks) seemed better than 50%.... -
I found 3 v3s in middle of the forest
Mookie (original) replied to thoking's topic in General Discussion
Because they took a gamble on someone not finding them. This happens quite a lot in my experience - especially if you know the good places to look. Their best stuff wold have been in their tent/barrel stash somewhere more obscure (although perhaps quite close). Parking them next to a house is quite a big gamble though.... -
On average, doing the run along the Great North Road between Sinistok and Svet, I'll find four or five barrels. There are almost too many of them...presumably because they needed testing in 0.58.
-
Absolutely. OP, this is one of the most important points about persistence - the mechanic that the devs have been slaving over for, what? A year or more? I almost enjoy the challenge of dying and working my way back to my stash from the opposite end of the map. Also, your run is really just the Green Mountain crash site run. It works, but crash sites are already more spread out than that - much further north, and a bit further east. However, their predominantly NW distribution seems to me to deliberately incentivise people to get off the coast and away from the SE corner of the map. The problem with 0.58 isn't crash site distribution - it's the Quonset/Nissen huts and the focus on them that need to be (and will be) sorted out.
