Instantly became hyperthermic and I can't cool off..?
Mookie (original) replied to Ransurias's topic in New Player Discussion
Update: If you're wearing gloves, take them off. And hats Gorka jackets are a no-no unless it's raining, (and raincoats, obvs). USMC jackets are ok. My jury's out on M65s. Jog everywhere. Don't sprint unless you have to. I'm still having to take the occasional swim like this, but I've got it more under control than yesterday. -
What do you mean you have 'no clue'? Do you know where you are? Use a map like izurvive or the ingame one and do some orienteering. You don't really need a compass, but it helps. If you need to figure out where you are, look at town and road signs. If you're near a very big town directly on the coast, it's either Electro or Cherno. If you're on a road, keep following it and it should eventually take you to a town (with a town sign). then compare that to the map and get your bearings (literally).

Established my mini-camp in the far, far northwest. Feeling pretty well geared with a decent M4, FNX, etc. Visited Tisy Military. Lots of potential there, but possibly not worth the run right now. Also very easy to become disorientated in it. Red Ensign very graciously offered to give me his canteen and other things, so I moved down towards Stary. Found all three US crashsites on the map on my way. I don't think I've seen a Russian crashsite yet. Got a bit lost (as I often seem to do towards the Sobors) and then on the road between Kabanino and Stary noticed a guy about 50m away from me. He, and what I assume were at least two friends, started shooting immediately so I stopped worrying about overheating and sprinted towards the nearest woods. The firing was intense and I was pretty sure I was a goner. I was hyperthermic, dehydrated, bleeding and lost. Once I thought I was far enough away I bandaged. However, I was apparently only hit once or twice. All gear fine, apart from ruined boots. Figured out where I was. Red helpfully offered me his boots after I got to Stary. He gave me all his stuff, and then I killed him with an axe. Hurrah! I'm currently sitting in a pond on my way back to the relative calm of the far north. I seem to spend a lot of time sitting in ponds...
-
Update: Have had to dump most of my stuff so I can carry around different clothes and canteens in an attempt to stop overheating....sorry. Hornet, what are you looking for? I do still have a pristine NATO suppressor, Magpul handguard and RIS handguards (both P). Also have a (damaged) green barrel. Also have a FAL mag, but only has two rounds in it. Will trade all for a P or W ACOG. Good meeting with Red wherein he gave me everything he had and I violently assaulted him with a gardening implement.

I've found many. Usually in sheds or garages...

Instantly became hyperthermic and I can't cool off..?
Mookie (original) replied to Ransurias's topic in New Player Discussion
Apart from a happy couple of dips in ponds, I've been overheating ever since I came back to play 0.60 stable. It doesn't seem to have any ill effects though - my healthy status is holding up, and I'm not even sure it's affecting my hydration. I am a little worried about ignoring it and then dropping dead from heatstroke though... -
It kind of depends where you are... My favourite route to the far north west is to get off the coast via Nadezhdino (great little town), up and over the ridge towards Green Mountain and helicopter country, then north via Myshkino and the tents. If I can get myself sorted out a little bit over the next few days, I'm planning a trip to Tisy, so PM me if you want to come along.
-
Good to get back into the game... All 3pp stable. Have: FN FAL with folding stock (both P. FALs take optical attachments now btw) USMC woodland camo pants and jacket (both P) FNX (P) NATO suppressor (P) Seeking: M4 mags, 20 rounds or over, preferably full. Thanks

Whatever the technical/bug part of this, the server management element is, for me, by far the biggest factor. And, yes, my stash has now gone for good because the server it was on has gone private...
-
Sheesh. Just seemed to me it was the kind of place not to have a big camp. You know I haven't sent you any PMs about it, or said anything else about it. But looks like you've removed me from your trading list anyway  . My camps get found all the time - in far more obscure and well hidden locations. When they do I try to learn from it, or accept that it's inevitable. I don't throw my toys out of the pram. Have some beans anyway. Perhaps your blood sugar is a little low. :beans:

In desperate need of .308 ammo

IME, you're more likely to find .308 at crash sites in a FAL mag than you are anywhere else... -
Make sure to report public servers that kick for no reason
Mookie (original) replied to aurien's topic in General Discussion
I might be oversimplifying it, but an ELUA is a ubiquitous implicit contract included in every piece of commercial software . By using the software, you are agreeing to do so in a manner consistent with the expectations of the manufacturer, and license to use such software can be revoked at will. In the US, there is quite a bit of power held by those who make the products, but they generally don't have to enforce it often. Still it is fairly common for gaming accounts to be sanctioned, suspended or banned for disruptive behavior. The difference here, is that the public hive system is profoundly exploitable, and heavily exploited. I have never personally rented a server, but I would expect the rental agreement to include a copy of the Public Server Hosting Rules. The rules are published; it is not a matter of knowing what to do; it is not a matter of hammering out the terms; it is simply a matter of ensuring that GSP's are providing the service as specified in the server hosting rules. If a customer rents a public hive server and names it "High LOOT [MLG] Clan Only, Join=Kick" they should have their server reverted to default settings, all admin privileges suspended, and their payment retained; they should get a message stating exactly what they did wrong, a link to where that information was previously given to them, and a reminder that they may continue to rent their server, and that their admin privileges will be restored in four weeks. If after those four weeks, they still administer the server in a forbidden manner, they will receive another suspension of admin privileges. I'll have to concede that it comes down to Bohemia putting pressure on GSP's to only allow servers hosting DayZ in a compliant manner. There are dozens of instances of servers that are in clear violation of the rules. Correcting these will have negative consequences for whom? If BI and GSPs are afraid of losing customers who abuse the game, they are putting themselves at risk of liability for taking money for every copy of the game that they sold, having failed to act to provide public servers in a manner in which their own publications specify. This isn't an either-or situation. BI has specified the rules for hosting a public server. These rules have not been effectively enforced. I have heard that an integrated server reporting tool will be added into the game at some point. But the problem still persists, that the longer they allow this type of behavior, the more ingrained it will be. And if after Beta, this has still not been effectively dealt with, this will be an enormous public embarrassment. Public server renters need to be held accountable to the standards of the public hive system. If BI does not have this capability, they need to get it, and use it. If BI does have this capability, they need to use it sooner rather than later, to prevent the prevailing game culture from degrading any further. Couldn't agree more. Putting the onus on us as players to report servers might have worked when they were an occasional exception to the rule. But the problem is now so widespread that (i) if I reported every server that kicked me, I would essentially have no time to actually play the game and (ii) even if the GSPs were once doing something about such reports, they certainly are not now (not least because some GSPs are at best 'virtual' organisations). -
Found it Honey-B. Most stuff gone now, but I grabbed a spare FAL, thanks. Have to say it was a big camp and easy to imagine people stumbling across it...

I think it's a great idea tbh.

Need Medical Assistance in DayZ SA ? Find Your medic here!
Mookie (original) replied to TMWMarijke's topic in General Discussion
If it's the severe kind you are probably doomed I'm afraid. The chances of surviving it are slim. I survived the milder kind in 0.58, but not before I'd stashed my high value stuff as an insurance policy. And that may be the best thing to do, assuming you have existing barrel/tents or can find one in Novaya Petrovka. I could get up there, free up inventory and stash it for you if you feel that you can trust me. Otherwise I hope you're near a water pump and some apple trees. -
Make sure to report public servers that kick for no reason
Mookie (original) replied to aurien's topic in General Discussion
No we're not pilgrim... :( There are two issues here. First, I can't see how persistence is going to credibly work with a server structure and process like this. Ultimately, the ability for admins of public hive servers to kick people needs to be removed. And the GSP commitment to operating 'official' servers needs to be toughened up - at the very least. Second, the much broader issue for the devs (and SMoss has posted on at least one of these threads) is that the time and energy investment that players make in an EA game has to be sacrificed for development. I can see that. But a side-effect is (much like the optimisation/engine issue) that it will put people off playing to start with - thereby limiting player feedback and testing. The long-term slump in DayZ SA players might be related to this. So it's a bit circular. And it seems to me that unless development is re-prioritised, this will become a vicious circle. -
Good advice from Beav. Nonetheless, there is often a serious element of randomness in gunfights. The number of times I've emptied an MP5 directly into someone for them to pop me in the head is probably well into double figures. As a rule, that randomness decreases relative to your distance from the target. Also, for the most part, the outcome of a fight is usually determined by who sees whom first...

Best servers for persistent "camp"
Mookie (original) replied to Sandman94's topic in General Discussion
If you want to be on public hive, spread your stashes out over several servers - thereby minimising the risk if any one of them goes down or gets 'reassigned'. Even then you can be unlucky. My main stashes are on three servers and since 0.59, one has disappeared completely and the other (an 'official' server) now fails to connect such that I spawn in as a freshie... Euphobia's offer sounds good to me. -
I've fallen through floors when completely stationary... Not much lately though, as I'll only go upstairs in any building when absolutely necessary. Oddly, I've never fallen through in a police station. The diagnosis of the problem seems to move around quite a bit - from Jonathan's 'accidents written into the code' idea (which could be true - hey, it's a feature!), to server lag, to netcode, etc. Bit depressing that it's still a thing...

can an 'official' server go private?
Mookie (original) replied to Red_Ensign's topic in General Discussion
Red - my commiserations. As discussed a lot recently, this is a bit of a problem for the whole persistence project.... -
I felt the voices of a million nerds crying out in anguish. Yes, it is a bit crap. Yes, the shitty fps is coming close to ruining this game for me, I maintain my faith in the devs though.... I hope I'm right.

For a guy who's a bit arsy about chainsaws, this is a pretty crappy thread title. No offence Jon.

I sense you may find DayZ a little disappointing Grasshopper...

I am aware of this. I was being facetious... <_<

Cars (especially car boots/trunks) are where I usually find .308 - both in stacks and in packets.
