I fished for the first time today, using an improvised rod. Quite enjoyed it, but the carp only yield one measly fillet apiece. And it still says 'raw' even when it's cooked...

I had an M4 with RIS guard, bipod and flashlight attached on my back... Wasn't double carrying.

Have: AKM with rail guard, wooden stock, bipod and PSO 1-1. (All P) AKM 30rnd mags x4. (All P, full) Winchester with hunting scope and ghille wrap. I was running around yesterday feeling pretty well geared when, for the first time, the same thing happened to me - completely naked, all gear gone, save my pristine M4 which had lost all its attachments and mag. One theory is that it's to do with the server provider - it does not seem to happen with Gamingdeluxe servers, but others are dodgy. For the time being, I'm just being a lot more careful about not running around in my best gear, but making sure it's stashed. In the past I've kept my best stuff on me because of concerns about dodgy persistence, or servers going dark. That equation has been reversed for me...

You know you can still see players on the server from the 'View Players' in the Steam overlay? My beef in this area is more that the server browser is usually completely off in telling you how many players are on a server before you get into them...

Congratulations, you have acquired cholera. There are two types - a mild one which is survivable (I survived it in 0.58) and a severe one which is probably not. Charcoal will not work (that's for food poisoning), and the jury is out on whether tetracycline works at all yet. It didn't seem to for me - I just had to stay hydrated and energised for quite a while before I lost the 'sick' status. I vomited quite a lot. Remaining inactive (I actually lay down on a bed for a few hours) seemed to help. DO NOT keep drinking from water sources unless they are water pumps, are from rain, or have been treated with purifier tabs. As eno says, stick very close to a water pump and some apple trees. Also stash your best gear as an insurance policy, assuming you have a barrel or tent nearby.

My fps took quite a hit with last week's update (which I thought was to address vehicle persistence, but apparently hasn't). I am enjoying 0.60. It is harder in some ways than previous patches (ah, the glory days of 0.45-0.48), but the masochist in me relishes that. I've died only once since the patch, and it was my own fault. Things also seem to disappear a lot less frequently in this patch than they used to. What I really don't relish is the sheer arsery of the server browser, or the stubborn refusal of the in-game UI to behave itself.

The GPU is your graphics card. it will be called something like NVidia xxx or ATI Radeon yyy. Do you have one? Is it all installed/enabled and running other things/games successfully? 'DirectX inactive' is not a good sign. In ascending order of seriousness: reinstall it and ensure its drivers are up to date/get a new one/consider a new computer. Having said that, my GPU is crap, and my computer is at least five years old and run the game pretty well.

I'd estimate my odds of dying are at least doubled when I'm with anyone else, and they increase in direct proportion to the size of the group.

Not sure they left a base of fire, because they both ran the same way, looks like there were only two, and I'm willing to bet the oppo knew that. In any case, should have pulled back up the hill and flanked left, where there was plenty of cover pretty much all the way round to the south and west. FWIW that's what I would have done. Not sure it was really 'flanking' in any planned way, in any case. It looks more like what's technically known as 'running away'...

I think you were extremely lucky. There's little point in flanking if the opposition can see every step you take in doing so (which they could, because you ran across an open field). Then you bumped into one of them (though might have been someone else tbh), sprayed at him, killed him and ran off. It's not really a 'very nice kill'. Should also be in the Gallery section perhaps?

Was out heli-hunting last night. Very well geared. Fell asleep at the keyboard... Very, very dead - either from exposure or from gunshot wounds. Now rebuilding. But hey, at least I have stashes.

Two different posters I think... Agree with you about the pew-pew, do-do though.

I can bring my temp down by swimming (I mean actually swimming, not paddling...) and then sitting around in the shade. To go from Hyper to normal takes about half an hour though. Seems to work with gear on - I'm damned if I'm taking it all off and losing everything to a server restart/dodgy persistence.

Just been on a very strange (public ) server. Three crashsites in a row near Lopatino. All three sites had three intermingled helis - two NATO, one Russian, so nine in total. None of them had any loot.

The VSS will be quieter. The NATO suppressor isn't quite the same as a silencer, and the VSS rounds will deal higher damage (pretty much a one hit weapon). But it suffers from really severe bullet drop after quite a short distance (100m?). There's an excellent Wobo video about it somewhere. A prone shooter, with M4 bipod deployed will also suffer almost zero recoil - at least pre 0.60. The M4 is also much more versatile because of the effect of the attachments. So if you want stealth and hitting power at short ranges, go for the VSS. Anything else...M4 for me.
