Two points. First is that we kind of already have 'solo mode'. It's called a zero pop server... Second is, if you're sick of your efforts to gather gear being in vain...that's why the game now has persistence and you can make stashes. Personally, I find it extremely liberating to leave all my classy gear in some barrels, put on a tracksuit and go looking for trouble.

Gear wipe bug. Spawning in naked
Mookie (original) replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
Cold did this with AKs, not M4s btw. I like the point about changing the handguard without removing the bipod being the issue, but I'm pretty sure when this bug happened to me I'd done no such thing. -
Gear wipe bug. Spawning in naked
Mookie (original) replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
I've seen two or three at crash sites in the past 24 hours. The probable cause that the devs have identified isn't bipods per se - it's handguard swapping mechanics (which have always been buggy and weird anyway). I will say to both of you that while you may be able to create the conditions for the bug, that is not the same as understanding its actual causes. My point about sufficient vs necessary conditions pertains. Not that I don't salute your efforts, but you're gonna get through a hell of a lot of handguards... -
Your legs/body might have been glitch-visible poking out of the wall, assuming you were next to one... Have to say, I'm really pleased with my stashes and have managed that quite well (barrels, spread over different servers, in next-to unidentifiable locations). It gives me the freedom to explore the map a bit more, have more player encounters and indulge in more gunplay if/when they go sour.

Yeah, this tbh. If the scopes worked and the ammo was a bit more plentiful it would probably be the best gun in the game. But they don't and it isn't...

Gear wipe bug. Spawning in naked
Mookie (original) replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure it happens each and every time - might be that it's just a risk caused by swapping handguards from the ground (nb they are specific that this is from the ground...). In other words it's a necessary but not sufficient condition. In any case, I've seen at least one example of it happening to a guy who was carrying an AKSU... So the jury is definitely still out. Best insurance policy is probably to stash your best gear. -

This from Hicks in yesterday's status report, ICYMI. Theory the devs are working on is that it's not bipods, it's not AKMs, it's about how people are swapping handguards on their M4s: Another couple of weeks have passed, and we have again received a good amount of bugs via the Feedback Tracker. Regularly, we still see quite a few reports on player characters having lost their gear, and we do have a set of repro steps for this bug: 1. Join a server. 2. Go to any M4 handguard laying on the ground. 3. Take M4 to your hands. 4. Swap handguards on your M4 with handguard on the ground via action menu or by drag-and-drop. 5. Relog. 6. Notice that the character is missing all the gear except for the M4. If you experience loss of gear in any way different than with the repro steps above, please do let us know: http://feedback.bistudio.com/ -
Tents or crash sites. I think the double door barracks are possible too, as M4s definitely spawn there (but rarely).

OVERHEATING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mookie (original) replied to wampa's topic in General Discussion
'Overheating' is a bit of a misnomer because it sounds like a verb or process, whereas in fact it's a status that you enter above a certain threshold. You can be cooling down slightly/prompty/rapidly while remaining over that 'overheating' threshold. And even if drenched, you may need to sit still and wait to cool down. -
OVERHEATING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mookie (original) replied to wampa's topic in General Discussion
Theory is that USMC is like Gorka in that it's water repellent, so has a low absorbency score. If you want to remain soaked/damp for longer, cargo or TTSKO pants (sorry, trousers...) are the best bet. -
OVERHEATING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mookie (original) replied to wampa's topic in General Discussion
I hate to show off about it, but full Smersh set seems to have significantly less heat factor than Hicap.... Might just be pride of ownership though. -
I have a dim sense, on top of weapon jamming, that poorer quality ammunition might accelerate weapon degradation. Might be wrong though. In any case, I am a little bit anal about the quality of 5.56. Less so if I'm just banging around with a Blaze or similar.

OVERHEATING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mookie (original) replied to wampa's topic in General Discussion
I see that it's bugged, but the principle that it's summer and times have changed is one I quite like about 0.60. It is a serious bummer for travel times (I jogged from Sinistok to N Sobor and back last night - took three hours), but that is probably as it should be. -
Why No One Is Ever Friendly on DayZ Anymore
Mookie (original) replied to GiddysGames's topic in Gallery
I'm usually friendly unless or until someone starts shooting at me, or unless I see dicks bullying freshspawns to buff their egos. -
My experience of 0.60 is that while mags themselves are pretty easy to come by, actual 5.56mm is much rarer than in earlier patches - probably because mags spawn semi-full (or usually almost empty), while packed or loose ammo is often damaged.

I'd certainly give charcoal a try, but deliberate stuffing>vomitting might also make sense. Had you emptied it out to use for water storage? (After over 3,500 hours in game, ingesting petrol is something I've yet to experience - touch wood).
-
I'm relieved in a way to see that the ACOG is bugged on the FAL...

Sure. The two times I've caught cholera (once in .57, once in .58), even though I'd recovered from the disease and no longer showed 'sick' status for long enough that I believed it, I could not get back to 'healthy', no matter how long both other bars were bright green. I deliberately nudged the status downwards by taking my shoes off and running around for a bit. Put them back on and within minutes, hey presto, 'healthy' returned. There used to be a little glitch there - not sure if there still is. Actually, I quite enjoyed my episodes of sickness - they were pretty immersive and desperate. I've also been saved from food poisoning (when quite close to death) by friends who ran to my location with charcoal...

Acid rain?-or artic northern -140 below
Mookie (original) replied to sneakydude's topic in General Discussion
Hmmm. Had your hypothermia reached the point when you'd lost 'healthy' status notably, or perhaps were even getting a bit greyed out? Your health/blood might have reached a low enough point that the face-melting tipped it over the edge? Or it could have just been a bug...I mean, a bug other than the whole temperature bug. In any case, putting lots of clothes on and sprinting around, even in the rain, works for me and is a lot less hassle than a fire. I like rainy servers, as I can basically just run around all the time without overheating. -
I'll never really understand what the point of doing this to freshspawns is...

As Eno says, you need to understand the cause of your sickness. If you've recently eaten meat (especially if it was raw) you may have food poisoning, in which case charcoal tabs will help. You'll need at least ten IIRC. If you've been drinking untreated water from ponds, you may have cholera. There are two varieties; a mild form which is survivable, and a severe one which is not. The jury is out on whether antibiotics have any effect at all, but they (probably) can't hurt. Just stick close to a water pump (which provides clean water) and some apple trees. If you're sick because of a wound infection (usually caused by stitching yourself with a leather repair kit...), applying alcohol tincture should help. Don't drink it though... Whatever the case, you should not drink untreated water while sick. There's a small risk of catching cholera from untreated water even when full green healthy - happened to me in 0.58 - and a much greater one when not. Stash your best gear if you can. Personally, I don't F11 if I get sick, but I do prepare for the worst, make out a will, etc. There are lots of Wobo videos on this on YT and they're highly recommended if you'd like to understand the mechanics concerned.

Very poor server performance in 0.60
Mookie (original) replied to TimF's topic in General Discussion
My fps has collapsed in the past 48 hours or so. Last night, in the northern towns, the game was almost unplayable, and inventory responsiveness is also getting noticeably worse.. Shame really, as performance was one of the most important of the 0.60 improvements. Hopefully only a minority are affected. -
