Untrue IME. All my MP stocks are painted green, but I saw two black ones today at NWAF. You are confusing causes and effects.
-
I used to be a bit like this, full of conspiracy theories, thinking the devs were playing to the wrong tune. I actually freaked out about it completely at one point. Now, what I can I tell you, I'm just really enjoying the game. I'm approaching 4000 hours. I have a job (a good, interesting, well paid job). I am single these days though... Just try to bear in mind that your perspective is one of many, and please stop slagging people off.

IRL, of the 40 or so 'tops' I own, at least half are t-shirts. And I live in the UK... I've seen three t-shirts in 0.60, and two of those were the deeply unfashionable yellow and white stripey ones. I'd give my right arm for a green one. So where are they all? Yes, yes, I know I should have kept the green one I spawned with many weeks ago. Sadly, the oh-so-predictable squeaky coastal merchants of death made that difficult in practice. I guess I could F11 for one, but that seems a little extreme.

It's summer. So let's talk t-shirts.

Whereabouts is this odin? All over? The north seems bereft. If I can find another barrel soon, I might just stash what I'm wearing and F11 for one. For shits 'n giggles. -
Strange, I've found at least five black ones today. You may be confusing chance for something underlying. On no account should you be even touching an RIS, anyway (unless it's what's already on the gun), let alone trying to swap guards for one. Unless you enjoy logging in in your pants. Painting M4 parts is a bit of a mess in 0.60. I can get things to turn the colour I'd like them to be eventually, but it's a bit hit and miss, and they always go through a weird grey phase first. CQB stocks are especially hopeless. In other news, confirming the apparent end of the bipod. I haven't seen one since my stash was found/wiped last week.

There may only be one other player on that server, but...
Mookie (original) posted a topic in General Discussion
...you may still (literally) bump into them. On a low pop, I tend to assume that people are either on the coast, or at NWAF, or at Myshkino, or crash hunting. Not running in the woods right next to me. This afternoon I was jogging through the woods just west of Pustoshka, on my way back north after a successful netting hunt, when I thought I'd take a little detour into the town to look for burlap. Suddenly, the sound of my own running seemed echoed in stereo. Just for a second I thought 'the sound on this server's a bit glitchy', when the only other player on the server sprinted past me, with about 5m to spare. I don't think he'd seen me at all, and I took aim. I had a pretty good shot, but asked myself if I really wanted to ruin his day. He seemed to finally notice me at the bottom of the slope, turned round and then ducked behind a shed. I shouted that I was friendly, wondered if he needed anything, but he was quiet. So I jogged on. -
What is stopping the devs from upping the difficulty?

Really? If it was more frequent I'd be spending at least 90% of my time eating and drinking... Availability is the problem. Not need. -
Go home hyperthermia, you're drunk
Mookie (original) replied to SFRGaming's topic in General Discussion
Hmm. Does everyone agree on what the nature of the bug is exactly? I ask because things like being drenched, etc, do take time to cool you down. And the devs have acknowledged that while it's summer in Chernarus, the autumn visuals are out of whack. Your temperature status is one thing, while what's happening to you (eg being drenched) is another. You temperature can be falling, while your status remains above a threshold. For me, the bug is in overheating and hyperthermia having way too low a threshold, and in the only solution being to dive into the nearest pond. -
I had it just now at Myshkino tents. I just sprinted into the woods and kept sprinting... Annoying though.

What is stopping the devs from upping the difficulty?
Mookie (original) replied to Capo393's topic in General Discussion
My perception in the patches up to and including 0.59 was that the spawn rates of canned food were falling (and I'll leave out the Patch That Dare Not Speak Its Name - 0.55, when there was almost none at all). But the phenomenon of finding stuff in pockets has made finding it much, much easier in 0.60. Personally I've no objection to making it much more rare - especially if we can fix remaining hunting/cooking/horticulture bugs. For any of this to have an effect, though, something would also have to be done about the sheer plentifulness of apple trees. -
Need some assistance Hyperthermia again :(

May not be necessary, but it is quicker to get you to 'drenched' status IME. -

Mookie (original) replied to sneakydude's topic in General Discussion
In this patch, assuming you haven't actually fallen asleep at the keyboard, or gone to the pub and forgotten you were in game, you're not very likely to become hypothermic. Even if you are, sprinting around in the sunlight in a Gorka jacket will soon warm you up... Going for a swim is by far the best way to cool down. Swimming with all your gear on is probably the best way to do it - and also means you don't run the risk of losing it in a restart. If I can't find a pond deep enough to actually swim in, I go prone under the water and crawl around a bit; that seems to get me nicely drenched. -
Gear wipe bug. Spawning in naked
Mookie (original) replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
We (and sneaky especially) keep trying to identify the root cause of the naked-with-stripped-primary-weapon bug. Thing is, and in light of your experience, there are probably a whole family of these things. Had you been using anything nestable or any specific game mechanics before these things happened? Especially changing handguards or bipods, etc? Otherwise tempting to think that your database entry was corrupted by your (understandable) rapid relogging. -
Why do I keep losing my gear?
Mookie (original) replied to littletaff664's topic in General Discussion
Some of you may be simply falling victim to the fact that a proportion of servers are simply not hooked up to the database, so will think you're a freshie. That can either be, as Odin says, because they have just restarted, or because they are just perma-borked. In either case, if it happens, you should be able to get your gear back by spamming that 'exit' button and relogging into a properly connected server. DO NOT run around in the broken server, or you run the risk of it reconnecting and overwriting your char in the database. Alternatively, make sure you're not logging into first person servers by mistake - it's a different character... This is separate to the bug that we've been discussing, where you spawn in naked, no gear, except your primary weapon minus its ammo and attachments. -
What location comes to mind when you think of DayZ?
Mookie (original) replied to Tatanko's topic in General Discussion
For you Seinfeld fans, Sinistok is the Del Boca Vista of Chernarus. The other place I'd recommend as a good rural retirement villa is Red Ensign's Little Green House near Stary. It's a little too far from heli-land for me, but that doesn't seem to hold Red back. -
Can you post that list please? I've seen an old one on DayZ TV, but not a 0.60 updated one... Thanks.

Mookie (original) replied to Tatanko's topic in General Discussion
I work around Green Mountain, but commute from my country residence near Sinistok. The former is just the part of the map that I know best from literally thousands of crash site runs, while the latter is an excellent town for relaxing, eating apples and sitting in ponds. The fishing's pretty good too at this time of year. I can always pop into Myshkino or NWAF to do some shopping on the way between the two. The eastern half of the map to me is like North London - a mysterious area where there is little of interest. I have as little to do with the coast as is possible; it's just somewhere to get away from as quickly as I can. Back when NEAF had mil loot, my standard run was spawn>NEAF>Great West Road>NWAF>VMC. Now it's spawn>Nadezhdino (great little town to get started)>GM>Myshkino>Sinistok -
Protectors seem to last an age, and definitely through a restart. I had one at my main stash that had been there since the start of the patch...
-
He's desperate for dem pouches... I still haven't seen any btw.
-
Strictly speaking, bullets can break up on impact. And when they don't, they punch holes in many things. Sneaky is right that there is an underlying form of maths to bullet damage. Protectors, etc, obviously protect the items inside from some degree of damage. But the fewer the number of items in any given piece of clothing, the more actual damage you will take as a player. So, being a purist (as I think the Wobo videos show in past patches), the best armour is keeping your clothing full of individual items - the cost being that there is nothing protecting them from damage effects. And Red is also right in that this is one of many (many, many...) things that are not 100% realistic in game.

Gear wipe bug. Spawning in naked
Mookie (original) replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
They are useful above and beyond looking funky - that's why people use them. The M4 certainly has significantly improved accuracy with a bipod deployed (and IIRC the AKs too), especially when the shooter is prone. If you're firing to targets over 150m or so the effect is serious. If you have to snipe or overwatch with an assault rifle it's the best way. And the weapon flashlight has an obvious use in the dark... Whatever the case, I flat refuse to swap out handguards on my M4s these days, although painting them seems ok. -
IME it's actually about right. I disagree that 'two bullets' will completely ruin everything. When I take a round or two, it's usually (at most) everything in a particular item of clothing and that item of clothing itself. In many cases the items are not ruined, but nudged down one or two rungs down on the condition ladder And when people magdump into each other (often the case where 'shock reaction' shootings are concerned) it's right that all or most of the gear should be screwed.

Gear wipe bug. Spawning in naked
Mookie (original) replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
Pots are weird in 0.60 - I can't get one to stay in a barrel. The wipe bug involves something modifiable, or nestable that's corrupting your database. My theory is that bipods and handguards are one of that class of items, but there are others. -
Gear wipe bug. Spawning in naked
Mookie (original) replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
While, as I say, I salute your efforts, I'm just not sure you will be able to establish the cause through trial and error. There are already some counterfactuals. First, the devs' thinking is that it's not bipods, it's swapping the handguards (they may or may not be right). Crucially, the root cause may not have been something that you have just done before you are wiped. It may be a chance of something corrupting your database that you did a while ago, or a combination of things. But second, there is evidence that the same problem has happened to people in 0.60 who are not using M4s, or AKs and who have not even touched a bipod or a rail guard.
