My review after a couple days of 0.60 play

Something slightly wrong with this picture? -
I thought you were going to get away with it for a second.

Where is the mosin spawning?
Mookie (original) replied to noobgamer99991's topic in General Discussion
Yep, gun houses. Those places are the single best non-military source of weapons and ammo in the game tbh. -
So, character resets are still a thing then.

Of course you're right sneaky. My many random deaths and wipes are now the cause of a smile, rather than a howl of anguish. But I also sympathise a lot with Barnabus about the server point. If saved gear can disappear at any moment, it seems to undermine the whole point of persistence. And some of us have a playstyle that is very much about getting good gear, hanging on to it and staying alive. -
Constant 'session lost'/'connection with host lost'
Mookie (original) posted a topic in General Discussion
Is it just me? 15 out of 15 login attempts, all to favourite, well known servers. Screen loads up, 20 seconds later session lost or connection with host lost. A smidge frustrating, as I suspect two of my barrels are about to exceed their timers. -

I can remember this happening in 0.58 or 0.59 when the server had too many stashed items on it and you logged in near them. I thought that problem had been sorted. Anyway, I seem to have solved the problem, but I had to reinstall to do it.... -
I think I have a spare you can have for free if you still need one. PM me.
-
Yep. When it's loading the total list it stops you from doing anything else (eg filter). Then you remember and start spamming the favourites tab so you can at least get something done.

Yes, great post Pilgrim. I think we've discussed before how this is one of the fundamental problems for making persistence work. BI clearly put a lot of work into that, but the server issue was left unresolved. Operationally barnabus, I'm the same - I try to be as dispersed as possible, and to split as far as possible between 'public' servers and those privately operated ones that I have at least some faith in. BTW, in 0.59 I lost a huge stash when a UK public server went dark. Four days later it came back, and (surprisingly) my stash was still there... -
Very good. "We have something for you...in Cherno..."

This isn't what I'm talking about, but you probably understand what I'm getting at... -
The devs have taken pity upon me and are giving me my stashes back. Hurrah! jk..

I'm pretty salty too. On Friday my main stash was completely gone. This 'main stash' was actually four barrels spread across half the the map, all well hidden in fir trees, well away from any routes or points of interest. I refuse to believe that they could all have been found, and I'd interacted with all four less than 48 hours previously. I put it down to some kind of server persistence reset. Then on Saturday, the same thing happened to a different stash - again comprising widely dispersed barrels that had all been recently interacted with. Taken together, among other goodies, these stashes held eight pristine M4s, two SVDs, a FAL, three SMERSH sets, two full plate carriers and thousands of rounds of ammunition Then, while running around looking for more barrels, my extremely well-geared character was reset by a restarting server. I was bit grumpy about this, but stuck with it, bad luck, etc. Then, after having started afresh as a bambi and geared up quite well thanks to a friend's generosity, I got the naked spawn bug and logged in with all clothing, boots and backpack gone. Last night I managed to rebuild a little, but it's been a tough period in the game for me.

Where the hell does the plate carrier spawn?!
Mookie (original) replied to noobgamer99991's topic in General Discussion
Yeah this. I think I've seen them in NWAF tents as well...but could be wrong. The trickiest finds are the pistol holsters because they're so hard to spot. -

No, wait, this just gets better. Starting anew as a bambi I run off the coast and after an hour or two am well kitted - not least thanks to some typical generosity from Red Ensign. I then log in to a different server only to experience a variation on the naked bug. I still have an M4 (kitted) and a plate carrier, but hunting pack and all clothing has gone. I'm afraid I could be forgiven for thinking that the game is simply wasting my time at the moment. Edit: this does not mean I share Valdenburg's point of view btw. Other than the naked bug (which I kind've thought had been dealt with), servers do still restart and if you're very unlucky they will wipe you char. So in this case I was wondering why a particular server wasn't popping up in my favourites tab. I filter-searched for it and there it was. In hindsight, in those few minutes it had restarted, had yet to connect to the hive and I was wiped as a result - the same thing that's always been a risk - except now it's a risk less frequently than every four hours. So let's be careful out there people. -

Yes, the difference between jogging and sprinting is big - even more so in terms of hydration I think. And yes, 0.55 was tough :) -

Thanks, I'm aware of that, and can say with 99.9999% certainty that this is not what happened. I think I was just unlucky with a server restart. -
Oh, I'm not sure about that - depends on the circumstances. Running away like a disgraceful coward has certainly saved me a few times. The most important thing is to break line of sight/fire very quickly and keep breaking it. If that's not a possibility then, yes, take one of them with you if you can. Anyway, I've been feeling a bit queasy about the buggy servers, so haven't played much this week. I do remember that I now have far more M4s than any rational human being should, though.

That's the way it should be IMO. To 'craft booby trap' (a new thing as opposed to the existing trip wire one) should require something like metal wire, or rope + grenade...

Wasn't there briefly an underground bunker at the Kamensk base? I seem to recall people would go into it and then die there because the ladder was too short...

South Barracks or South Compound?
Mookie (original) replied to gRowlxd's topic in General Discussion
Sheesh, is this really worth a poll? It's not like the whole Quonset/Nissen Hut debate... -
Er, yes, because it's five posts above yours (and many had read that before in any case). I'm a fan of the diminishing availability of ready food. It makes me think harder, investigate more game mechanics, etc. That said, if you're looking in clothing, quite a lot of canned stuff is still available, at least off the coast.
-
Aha! I thought that might be you - found one in the main street in Stary yesterday. I ate the powdered milk and replaced it with a silenced Glock with a mag and some rounds that I'd found in the police station...
-
Ouch. I feel your pain. I'm hitting a lot of persistence resets at the moment. It's nice to have become a verb though...

OK, but in fairness to the OP, this was always the central gripe - that the huge $60m windfall BI received was not reciprocated through investment in development. There were a series of developing 'explanations' for this, not least that those who dared raised such a gripe 'just didn't understand the development process', etc, etc. I was not alone in not finding those explanations slightly underwhelming. The thing is, if/when the game works as intended, it will be (for me) probably the best game ever made. The best mixture of subtle incentives and freedoms around - shorn of the crippling complexity that has tended to affect other games I've invested heavily in - like Eve Online. And the developing tragedy might well be that BI could, should be due an even more massive windfall if 1.0 is released. But by then, the Alpha's reputation may have overwhelmed that potential. I hope it won't be so.
