CLE: easier to get m4/mags than civilian weapons (now with expanded feedback)
Mookie (original) replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this. If anything, my experience is that kitted AKMs are the most common, but it's probably unwise to generalise from a single player's experience. That said, I don't think I'm alone in experiencing gradual (but over time, pronounced) reductions in mil loot since 0.60 went to stable. Within one hour of that, I had three M4s. Now I'm lucky to see one (apart from the one on my back, obvs) if I play all day - but then I am a heavily Northwestern kinda guy. And the fact that guns haven't been spawning at crash sites for some time is worth bearing in mind. In other news, the coast is infested with squeaky hackers IME, which as you say might have something to do with it. -
CLE: easier to get m4/mags than civilian weapons (now with expanded feedback)
Mookie (original) replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
Not quite sure why I'm being quoted in this thread when I've yet to post in it.... Vagaries of the current forum? Anyway, have to disagree profoundly with the OP. I'm not a hopper, but in the past three days or so I've popped into Myshkino and NWAF maybe 8-10 times. Far fewer military weapons than there were two months ago. I think in those three days I've found two 101s and that's it - no M4s, not SVDs, no FALs. And mags and attachments were rare. Civilian rifles are very easy to find if you visit the appropriate places. Assault rifles are not easy to find, unless you're near Tisy and like AKMs. I do worry occasionally about threads like these being used to lobby the devs. But then I take solace in the fact that the devs actually run the CLE so know how it works. -
Tents Stay Persistent for How Long?
Mookie (original) replied to xSatly1's topic in General Discussion
In that case, I may be about to have a Very Big Problem. Is that true? Can we have a source for that please? Only Red Ensign's public stash must have been around for longer than that. He's not currently playing. I interact with it, but have never emptied or re-pitched the tents... -
Hang on Sqeezorz, I'm pretty sure the CLE does not 'see' stashed items, as well as those on the character.... As Red says, the key is to keep moving. If one town seems a bit dry, the next one will probably be better.

WOW, Lucky I found that heatpack, said no one ever
Mookie (original) replied to siresteelhell's topic in General Discussion
I seem to use them more and more. Quite handy in the rain if you're a bit chilly. Come to think of it, Chernarus does seem a little colder these days... -
All of this is good advice. It is genuinely hard trying to be friendly on the coast with a decked M4 or an SVD. I do try it, but people either run away immediately, or run towards you because they have a chance of some sweet loot if they can land a lucky punch (and it usually doesn't end well for them I'm afraid). An offer to trade stuff can be a good approach because it offers a structured transaction.

Standing in ponds is the new falling through floors
Mookie (original) posted a topic in General Discussion
Pretty big five hour trip last night to get together netting from the coast and burlap for full ghillie and other ghillie things. Trotting back up north, getting predictably hot, so stood ankle deep in a pond near Sinistok. I glance round at the TV. Fifteen seconds later I realise the puter screen has gone black and rather quiet. I am dead. I don't really get salty about this kind of stuff any more - this is really just a public service announcement. Don't go near water unless you're concentrating... -

Indeed. Confusing it with 'hypothermia' is though, in my recent experience.... Have they changed the seasons in Chernarus perhaps? I'd never before been hypothermic in 0.60. When I overheat I do try to get rid of it, first because of the annoying spammy messages, but second because it does consume hydration at a considerably higher rate than normal. -

Piranhas. That's what it is. It gets worse. After an entertaining two hours getting off the coast and back to a stash, I managed to confuse 'hypo' with 'hyper' and spent ten minutes in a pond without realising I was actually freezing to death instead of baking to death. Anyway, am dead. Again.... Sheesh, this game eh? -

I didn't even crouch in it, let alone go prone. It was one of those very splashy shallow ponds. Just stood in it. And then I was dead. Roll on Beta! -
So these massive bases full of loot are hackers, right?
Mookie (original) replied to bfisher's topic in General Discussion
Agreed. My stashes come from a hell of a lot of hard work, and (I hope...) knowing what I'm doing and where to find things. It's not 'easy'. -

Mookie (original) replied to bfisher's topic in General Discussion
It's proportionate to your investment in the game and whether you are solo or a group. I have pretty big stashes, certainly bigger and better quality than in that video, and I'm usually a solo player. I am just dreading the inevitable day when I watch MeatGhost's latest 'giveaway' video and realise it's one of mine. The key point for me is that my stashes are widely distributed across servers in order to avoid resets or discoveries, and that makes remembering what is where a bit of a pain... -
In-game (well, IRL too I guess) it probably has quite a lot to do with ammo quality. I always use pristine ammo, and I've never had a jam.

Basebuilding Watchtowers preview added to Trello

Looking at that Trello feed is making me feel v hopeful about the game. Buried stashes especially! Good work. -
Some green spraypaint might be nice...

3 HELICOPTERS SPAWN INSIDE EACH OTHER!!! OMG
Mookie (original) replied to Liam Perryman's topic in Gallery
I think a different mechanic is involved. There are some servers which get stuck on doing this. I've seen it occasionally, and I'm not alone. I bet there wasn't any loot, was there? -
Apologies serelaw - I'd prefer to hang on to them. You can trust Judged btw.
-
Great. What are you offering?
-
One of the things I'm really trying to get at is that if the Zs are somehow spawning out of the ground, it will be a serious immersion killer. There need to be a finite number at a given location, and as a lone wolf, I need to be able to kill them all as a matter of principle. I sincerely hope this doesn't get screwed up. If the aim is to lighten the server load, given the Z AI issues that we know about, then all well and good, but there should be a way to do it that doesn't go nuts.
-
Hmmm. I do want the game to become more dangerous, But as a largely solo player, I have a bad feeling about all this. In particular, I want to be able to clear an area and for there (within reason) to be a finite number involved.
-
Real life firearms, especially military rifles, are extremely loud. The only gun in the game that sounds remotely realistic to me is the AK101.
-
I haven't seen a hacker for a long time - probably because I live in the far north. Anyway, that sucks. My problem now is that I'm paranoid about losing stashes, and they are pretty seriously dispersed, ranging from the Black Forest, to Green Mountain, to Tisy. So I'm having to do a lot of sheer yomping up and down the map just to maintain them. I should put some crap gear on, go to the coast on a high pop and see if I can find me one of these hackers...

All Time Low Population
Mookie (original) replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I think I have 4,500 hours now. That's quite a lot, and I still play every day, or every other day. I can only echo the guy who said we all love the game (or at least what the game could be), but that many of us have a growing sense that the moment has passed. I hope Bio is right though, and I'd also be happy to be one of the twelve left playing 1.0. Also can't help but feel that one of the reasons this forum is so dead now is that so many people...can't actually log into it. -
Bit salty about that. Was just working on replacing my stashes, most of which seem to have disappeared to server resets. I tried logging in to a favourite server, it game me 'scene ready', so I quit it. Now standing on the beach in my jeans on every server.
-
So, character resets are still a thing then.
Mookie (original) replied to Mookie (original)'s topic in General Discussion
I guess the bottom line is that we have the server architecture we have, and it's a bit late for BI to rethink it - with the possible exception of requiring providers to maintain 'public servers' on the same IP, etc, in a more draconian way...?
