Grenades - Where did they go?

Flashbangs have a significant effect on wolves, as seen here: This worked the last time I tried it near Tisy, but you need some luck if you're running from them at the time.

Grenades - Where did they go?

Flashbangs can be very, very useful if you're in the middle of nowhere in a high-wolf risk area (eg the far western woods).

    CLE still a mess

In principle, it seems right to me that there should not be an entirely predictable assignation of loot to locations - above and beyond commonsense points such as mil gear spawns (usually) in mil locations, car stuff in garages, agri stuff in barns, etc. Knowing that ammo type x always spawns in building type y, or all those threads in the Steam forum that ask where Winchesters spawn, etc, seem to me to be a bit outside the 'spirit of the game' for want of a better phrase. But yes, I'm sure it is a WIP.

    CLE still a mess

I quite like the randomness of it tbh. Someone (Hicks? Dean?) said eventually there should be a chance of finding an M4 in a shed, and it's starting to feel a little like that, even though there's almost zero chance of finding anything else anywhere else.... Remember 0.55? If that had a been a hive wipe I would definitely have died. Desperate times. But this is a desperate game.

    Home

I am not playing this game to have access to a suburban idyll. TBH getting away from that is exactly why I am playing this game.

    Trading Post

This is a crime against Chernarussian humanity. Whoever did it deserves not only a lifetime ban from the trading forum, but also to be cut up into very small pieces and fed to wolves. Seriously, that camp was a big asset to the community, and, if you're reading this, you're a tool if you took it.

    Character Value: A discussion.

I don't think this is to do with loot availability either. My overriding desire in the game is to stay alive. At the moment there is little, if any, incentive to do so once you've built a halfway decent stash. A skills system, perhaps matched by a visual marker (like facial hair - remember that?) could make the difference - especially if it provided practical limits on PvP such as accuracy, firearms repair and handling, etc or on loot finding in the first place (?)

    New forum format/style

I am genuinely pretty stoked to get my old sig back. Beans for the forum team!

    Which map is correct?

I use izurvive.com DayZDB is (a) usually out of date - doesn't even show Tisy base - and (b) is horrible to use in practice because of all the ads and the terrible interface.

from fun to pretty much unplayable

This is a difficult game, in early access. My 5000 hours notwithstanding, I found the beginning of .61 frustrating because the environment was that much harder, and I needed to rethink my approach to things. The rain and hypothermia was especially challenging, as were the wolves. I really don't like dying, but after five or six depressing ones, I'm now sitting pretty on top of a huge shared stash (well, more of a town really...) in the far north. So I have some sympathy for the OP and at the risk of repeating some of the things others have pointed out: 1. If you're lightly geared, don't fight zombies unless you have to. Sneak around them. 2. Stone knife is absolutely essential, as is pointy stick (at least at first). 3. Always check hunting stands and green guard houses if you can. 4. Bear in mind that loot clothing often has food, ammo and other items inside it. 5. Make sure you pick up a raincoat if you see one. 6. It helps to have friends in game. I'm happy to help you if you'd like. 7. Oh, and get off the coast. Use one of the many maps or Chernarus online to navigate your way either westwards via Svet from the east coast, or northwards from the south. Avoid wolf areas if you can.

    All-New Player Health Guide (0.61)

There definitely is a very small (possibly tiny, teeny) chance of catching cholera from pond water when fully healthy - or at least there was in 0.58 when I almost died from it. And whatever the debate about bone health, I could absolutely swear I'd seen somewhere that that had been 'fixed' in .60 or .61. Perhaps these are the 'changes' to which Tatanko refers.

    Why I've stopped

Now before anyone flames me for being a nub, etc, I should point out that I have over 5,000 hours in game. Between about March 2014 and December 2016, DayZ sort-of took over my life (and that was not always a healthy or good thing). I put a few hours into .61. I tried very hard to get going again - recognising that it was a new patch, and that I could not simply play the game with the same old routes and tactics. It was nice to have lots of Z's around again, but admittedly pretty wearing sometimes. I was lucky enough to get a Prigdorky spawn, so managed to get over to the mil tents near Kamenka. Then I died to wolves. Then I stopped. And I don't plan on coming back anytime soon. I recognise and understand that BI want to make a serious survival game. And I'm as sick as anyone about the rinse/repeat PvP game that DayZ has shown some inclination towards becoming. But for me , the dynamics of exploring, looting and trading that have motivated me for most of those 5000 hours have now simply turned into masochism for it's own sake. The best moments I had in game (and I don't think I'm completely alone in this) were around 0.47/0.48, when, briefly, there were animals to hunt, crashes to find, vehicles that worked, and genuine fun to be had. Persistence may have been a price worth paying, but my subsequent experience showed some really serious problems with the idea. So if any of my old buds are reading this, I wish you all the best in the game and hope to come back when (perhaps?) the balance is a little different. Alternatively, perhaps the game will never quite be again what I found so great. That's perhaps not the worst outcome, and in any case I've certainly had my money's worth....

    Why I've stopped

Mmmm well, as some will have detected (and ignoring all the very wise advice in this thread), a combination of a hangover last Saturday morning, Red's staging camp, and being asked to 'curate' someone else's stash have led me back in. The responsiveness of the UI seems to be at an all-time low, while the increasing hostility of the PVE and the lack of open spaces means that feeling of just being able to run around has gone. Equally, maybe the relative ease of 0.58-0.60 has made me a bit too soft. I'll see some of you out there!

    Need some answers

If you log back in, chances the mag on the weapon you've just painted will reappear. This was certainly the case with M4s in 0.60....

Is DayZ still too easy ?

This patch is the hardest the game has been for as long as I can remember (I was ok in .55 because IIRC it was a non-wipe patch and I was well established). The devs probably need to strike a balance between designing something which is a significant PVE challenge on one hand and not alienating significant numbers of people on the other.

is hypothermia still a death sentence?

Without a fire, then yes, seems inevitable. I haven't survived long enough to get one going yet. My easy going .60 countenance just isn't going to cut it in this patch.
  18. Mookie (original)

    How long tents/barrels last?

Theoretically, in .60 stable, barrels last 8 days (real world). Interacting with their inventory resets the timer. Mil tents last 45 days (real world). Interacting with their inventory will NOT reset the timer - you have to empty them, pack them and put them up again for that. In practice, I think there is some evidence of variation on this theory.

    Hypothermia(Stable) Bug?

It's been said before, and I'll say it again - BI should stop using this pseudo-medical terminology. People in medicine don't even talk like this any more because confusion causes real harm to patients... Should be 'freezing to death' and 'heat exhausted' or similar.

    Wolves are Dangerous (o.61 EXP)

Tip for next time - calm down and try not to take yourself so seriously.

Make a website for the exchange of loot

The previous forum had a very active trading topic, which was helped by the fact that we could have signatures that we used to list trusted traders, etc. There remains a trade topic at the top of this forum, but it is almost dead... I miss trading - it was a key element of my playstyle. People have tried apps or sites for trading in the past, but they don't seem to work out very well (or people just prefer the forum topic). Good luck with it anyway OP.

Pushing traffic to castles and Northern Highway

I have 4,878 hours, having started in April 2014 (so...0.35 or thereabouts?). What can I say, guess I'm just some kind of masochist. A proportion of that is just having the game on in the background while I potter about doing work etc, though - I think that time still counts as far as Steam's concerned.

Pushing traffic to castles and Northern Highway

Yeah, I think the castles are actually pretty popular (not least because a lot of them have vehicle spawns). And people like swords.... Plus plenty of people around the Northern (ahem) Motorway. I virtually live around there these days, and so do a lot of people whose stashes are in the northern woods. I agree with OP about the dynamic mil tents though - cute idea. If any region of the map needs them, it's probably the far northeast though.
