  1. I prefer 1PP myself, but honestly, I hope it never gets enforced in any way. The majority of people seems to prefer 3PP for various reasons, hence why 3PP servers are vastly more populated. Why would you want to alienate them to placate a minority who already have their dedicated servers?

I don't really get why people keep insisting using 3PP is somehow against the spirit of the game. It's been in 3PP since the mod was first released. If you don't want to face people who use 3PP, don't play on those servers. But don't call those people noobs or lamers or whatever.

  2. We've all experienced it. We are just going about Chernarus, minding out own business, when we stumble across somebody else's camp. Maybe it's a single tent or a barrel with some useful but basic goodies in it that a lone wanderer could not carry with them. Maybe it's a sprawling base rivalling Tent City in size, with an arsenal that could see you overthrow a small country by yourself. What do you do? What are your own personal rules to raiding camps?

Do you pick the place clean and smash everything you couldn't take? Do you leave their stuff untouched, unwilling to profit from another person's work? Do you take a few things here and there based on your immediate needs? Do you use the 'take a penny, leave a penny' principle and leave some stuff behind as 'payment' for what you took? Most importantly, do you leave a thank you note? Tell us here!

For me, it mostly depends on the camp. The first camp I found was a tent in the woods with an oil barrel, and nothing inside except a bunch of cooked deer steaks, water bottles, clothing and tools, and an SKS with no ammo. So I took a hatchet, a water bottle and a few steaks and left my PU scope and two stacks of SKS ammo since I had no use for it at the time, plus a note detailing the 'exchange' and my sincerest (well not really) apologies.

Yesterday, however, I found a big camp at the camo building just north of the NWAF tent city. It had a dozen military tents and as many small ones, filling up the whole premises. I stopped counting the guns at thirty-ish. Thousands of rounds, of every conceivable type, and the magazines to put them in. Attachments up the wazoo. Grenades, smoke bombs, mines and bear traps. Military clothing from Gorka to USMC. And a freakin' sword. Just hoarding for the sake of it. So, I spent some time there, taking my pick of all the good stuff, and then I took all the mines they had and booby-trapped nearly every military tent.

Happens to the best of us, even in the grave of safety.

I have a friend like that. If he picks up an M4 and manages to get it working, he'll usually die within the next 30 minutes, either getting killed or somehow killing himself. I think the idea of owning one makes him too anxious to function properly. One time he just walked right off a building while aiming down the sight.

  4. After heading up to the camo building just north of the NWAF tents to use the water pump, I found that someone had plastered the entire area with military and small tents, full of lovely lovely loot. At leat 15 military and as many smaller tents. Long story short, now I have two brand new guns with ALL the trimmings, including a functioning SVD which is something I've never had before, plus all the food and gear, and a freaking sword! :). It's sad I couldn't find a pen in any of the tents, I would've left a thank you note.

On a side note, why do people always collect a dozen landmines and bear traps if they're not going to use them to defend their base? Now half a dozen military tents have mines at the entrance, and they are hidden well :) I'll check back in a couple hours, see if anyone's been exploded yet.

  5. I think it might be nice, yes. A good compromise between player identification and immersion, akin to the arm bands but more fleshed-out.

edit: one con I can think of is the free-hand drawing opening the door to a lot of trolling and childish shenanigans. Think swastikas, dick badges and other such nonsense.

  6.

I respawned in Cherno and a guy was swimming around in the street so I called it a night.

I feel your pain but I feel obligated to tell you that that is the best damn DayZ quote I ever heard and I'm still in stitches as I'm typing this five minutes after reading.

  7. Generally, I would have expected the game to work that same way for me too. However, I have my middle mouse click mapped through Logitech Gaming Software. Also, I did not see the normal reload icon for a Magnum when I had a speed loader in my inventory (could be because of current build settings) nor when I emptied the mag in my 1911. I had to put the 2nd magazine for my 1911 on the hotbar and use the hotbar to get the mag to load. Perhaps the normal reload function is working on some of the assault rifles or SMGs?

Did you have room in the inventory to put the empty mag? So far as I know the quick reload works with pretty much any type of gun, including ammo clips, speedloaders and snaploaders. Even the flare gun, IIRC.

  8. Am I understanding you correctly? My action key is bound to F. Do you mean that when your weapon has no more rounds in it, a contextual action for "Reload" shows up in the scroll wheel actions? Or that I can just press F? If that's the case, then thanks for sharing. I didn't think to try that for whatever reason, although it does make perfect sense.

Well, F is my action key too but I can use a click of the scroll wheel (Mouse3) as well to do things like opening doors, using ladders and picking up items. Pretty sure it's a default thing. Whenever I'm using a gun with a magazine, as long as I have another magazine stashed, if I fire all rounds out the attached magazine, a little reload icon appears in my crosshairs. So then I hit the scroll button and voilà, reloading. The empty mag goes in an available spot in my inventory, the new mag goes in the gun, and I can start shooting things again, all without having to manually go into the inventory.

  9. Just a flavour idea really, but wouldn't it be cool if we could make grave markers for our fallen friends? Just a few bits of wood, a rope or some nails, and a knife or other sharp tool to carve a name. Make it into a cross or some other thing, depending on your preference. Add to the list of options when finding a dead player an option to make them a little grave marker of your choice which you could then place at that exact spot, or add it to your inventory to place it somewhere else (like on the side of the road instead of right in the middle). Maybe allow some room for a short text so we may know how the person lived and/or died.

I know that if I died while I was with other people, I'd want them to do it for me, as I would gladly do it for others.

  10. Btw, a while back I complained that "r" doesn't work as my reload button any more. The way to do it now is to place your ammo on the hotbar and press the key when you want to reload. I don't really see the point in this, as it just takes up more hotbar space, but I guess that's the quickest way to reload now.

I just press the scroll wheel when I reload, works like a charm. Basically when you empty a magazine and you have a spare in your inventory, just press the action button and you'll automatically switch out the magazines. You may need the free inventory slots to put away the empty mag, not sure about that, but reloading in itself isn't a problem for me.

  11. Today, I had good fun and a nice taste of what I hope DayZ will be all about when it's finished.

I was in the Novo police station rummaging through the upstairs rooms when I heard footsteps downstairs going from room to room. So I crawled in the big room, aimed my RAK at the door and waited. If he'd popped his head through I'd likely have shot him, but he must've heard me because he called me from the hall. He said he was bleeding and needed help. I considered my options, but in the end decided to help. I gave him a rag and gave him a saline bah he'd brought. We heard gunshots from inside the city and decided not to push our luck, so we headed west towards Severograd. We slapped a few zombies around, found matching gasmasks and generally had a good time. And then we reached Severograd. Within moments, we had half a dozen zombies on us, chasing us to the outskirts. My friend was taking hits and bleeding, and I didn't know how long he could hold on. I was being hit as well by now. He yelled at me to run, but instead I pulled out the RAK again and opened fire on a cluster of zombies... and then it all went so fast. More and more zombies poured into the area and we got separated; I spent all my .380 rounds and was down to loading single shots in a P1. I ran around frantically trying to find my friend when I heard his Repeater going off nearby. Just as he spotted me, I collapsed from bloodloss. Laying there, I heard his voice, telling me what was going on, how he was fighting off the last of the zombies, then bandaging me and waiting for me to wake up, giving me beans and water... after five minutes he set off to find a saline bag or an epi pen or anything that could help me, but found nothing. I knew he'd done all he could, and I prepared for my journey to the afterlife. And as I faded into the darkness, I heard him one last time.

"You fought bravely, my friend. My name is Paul. I hope you have better luck in your next life. Thank you for everything."

10/10 would give life for stranger again.

  12. I just managed to rob a guy at the Balota airstrip with nothing but an empty Magnum. The whole thing lasted probably less than 30 seconds, but it was more fun than I've had in hours of running about collecting stuff. I could've shot him afterwards, but I figured why bother, so instead I told him there was more stuff to find in Balota town, and took off in the opposite direction.

  13.

Too many moral implications to going around freely promoting to wholesale slaughter of innocent people whom are merely ill from a virus . It borderlines genocide .

So a bit like how 80% of players act around other survivors then :P

  14. xD Fair enough, but now that I've thought of it some more, if someone does manage to fortify the city, good damn job (Assuming it'll be somewhat challenging to build)

It's the kind of project I wouldn't mind seeing done in the game. Something useful for all these clan boys and girls to do :P
