Do you carry a handgun when you have an automatic rifle?
Parazight replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
Ideally, I'd carry an assault rifle for close quarters combat. A longhorn for appropriate mid-distance sniping and an amphibia to shoot at zombies with. -
How can the community help youtubers/streamers?
Parazight replied to hiniberus's topic in General Discussion
No. There is no reason to help streamers/tubers. There is no practical benefit from people who stream/youtube, etc. If you want more subscribers or fans, then create more interesting material. Promote it yourself by creating content that is worth watching. I posit that any video that requires the community to help fabricate will be terrible by nature. If you need help being creative then it will be anything but that. The best DayZ videos aren't a product of wanting to fabricate an event for the sake of making a video. The most interesting videos are of events that take place that happen to be recorded. -
So, the OP is trying to promote bestiality? Worst topic title ever.

BORING!!!!!!!! You can have your commie books. Right after they put in nudie mags, car mags, newspapers, tabloids, and other interesting literature. You know, stuff people read on a regular basis. Raise some money, put real advertisements of actual products in things people would actually read, into the game.

I'd rather see a large number of zombies tied to a dynamic server event than any single 'boss' type npc. Besides all the other problems you have with boss style entities, the big issue is the loot they would have. If they would have no loot, then they would be a waste of developer resources as no one would bother with them. If they had worthwhile loot, then it becomes a must have. Totally out of flavor with the game.

We should be able to fish with hand grenades, amirite?

The REAL moral of the story is: Stop and kill the zombie. Or just maybe the really real moral of the story is: Buy a microphone so you can talk to someone when you have to.

My advice: make your topic title more descriptive.

Mistakes you see people do all the time in DayZ
Parazight replied to anderswhk's topic in General Discussion
Logging into a high pop server in the novo admin building. Shooting zombies. Typing instead of owning a working microphone. -
I heard somewhere that alpha works a lot better on nvidia hardware. This could be an issue. I'm not totally sure. Have you checked the bug tracker for other people with similar problems?
-
Dayz roadmap is released. Alpha is opened and money starts coming in. More money comes in. Scope of the game changes. BI decides to drastically ballon the workforce. Game technology and architecture is upgraded. Old roadmap becomes obsolete. New workforce still being integrated. Massive retooling of current mechanics. Setbacks due to massive growth. Issues arise because a new game genre is being made all while a new development process is used which also is now obligated to produce a playable product while all of this happens. I don't really see anything controversial. They hold all the keys and own the locked doors.

Uhh. I strafe two steps to the side, hit them with an axe, then move along. I'm baffled as to why you ask this question because zeds are almost totally trivial
-
I've always felt that the devs are smart and hard working, just as much as anybody in such a business. The only thing that I'd be concerned with is how BI execs handle the extra criticisms because of how the game is being developed (totally under the public microscope at all times).

For those of you that have lost faith in DayZ...
Parazight replied to pabloottawa's topic in General Discussion
Wow. The guy who infamously spews one-liners without ever providing evidence, or reasoning, just whined about whiners while whining about seven different things. Mind = blown -
[Be nice] How do you torture people in days?
Parazight replied to HeroAtDay BanditAtNight's topic in General Discussion
The two times I'd been cuffed and 'tortured' I made a game out of it. I can be pretty chatty over direct communication. So when some pimple faced mouth-breathing nerd decided to handcuff me, I tend to act like I enjoy it. Ridiculing them the whole time. The second time, my captor got super pissed. hehe. The first time, guy didn't want to deal and just shot me right away. Both victories in my eyes. No amount of gear is ever worth putting up with torture nonsense. -
So has there been a wipe yet or not?
Parazight replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
Ugg. Announcing that a wipe is coming is a terrible idea. I hope the devs learn to realize this. It seems people play differently (or not at all) knowing there's an incoming wipe around the corner. The community doesn't gain a thing and loses nothing by not knowing when the wipes are coming. Frustrating. -
For those of you that have lost faith in DayZ...
Parazight replied to pabloottawa's topic in General Discussion
Lose faith? Whatever happens, happens. If it's meant to be, it will happen. If Dayz never fully materializes (I think it will) then I wont lose sleep over it. 30 bucks falls out of my belly button every day when I wake up in the morning. Plus, I've already gotten 30 bucks worth of entertainment out of the game, at least. -
How does everyone here break up the DayZ monotony?
Parazight replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
Breaking up the monotony.... -Finding heli crash sites and sniping with my Longhorn. -Trying to KOS with every weapon I can put in my hands. Yet to score a kill with grenade, garden hoe, combat knife, Makarov, and one other I can't remember right now. -As a new spawn, gear up only by looting other people. The looting exception I've given myself is rags and food. -Finding spots in cities to snipe other people. -Accusing other players of being infected and then cleansing them with a fireaxe. -
The people have spoken! I guess I don't find it to be a problem. If it's a major issue for you, than who am I to stop you from voicing your opinion? Squeaky wheel and all. I guess I consider the mod to be at 'finished product' state because they've finished all the work that they're going to do on it.

LET US NEVER FORGET THE CHINESE BANDITRY AT PEARL HARBOR ON TODAYS ANNIVERSERY!!!!1!!

The game isn't so broken that it *needs* to be reset every hour. My point was that this is an alpha. They are working on the problems. The developers should not be focusing on a strong user experience, they should be more concerned with implementing mechanics and doing exactly what they're doing. So, you're comparing a finished project (mod) to a game that's in alpha production (SA) and you want the alpha to perform like a completed game. Your comments lead me to believe that you don't fully understand what 'alpha' means.
-
My guess is that they're well aware of it and are working on the issue. Making sure experimental servers are playable should be a lower priority. There's literally hundreds of lines of code in this game and any one of them can turn the game into a ruined potato.
-
Really? That's your biggest issue? Not the carnival of bugs or all the cheating clowns? I'm glad to hear it!The game isn't really set up for strong user experiences right now, and it shouldn't be. Personally, I'd rather have to deal with these sort of problems than wait longer for the game to be released because they're tying up resources making an alpha more playable.

DayZ Development progress makes no sense
Parazight replied to Doomlord52's topic in General Discussion
The team can't pour all of it's people on top of one project. It doesn't make any sense. That's why some devs are working on beta type stuff while others are still doing alpha things. I think the OP is hung up on semantics. DayZ is also a new game genre that's being developed in a whole new way. Give 'em some slack, eh? -
Tents. What are they good for? Absolutely Nuttin
Parazight replied to RAM-bo4250's topic in General Discussion
At some point, the consumer and developers have to realize that this is a game. There has to be a balance between authenticity and playability. It's not too much of a sacrifice to be able to store things in tents, in my humble opinion. Considering how easy it is to die in this game, and the fact that it still takes time to gear up those tents, having persistent tents (that are still vulnerable) isn't a deal breaker against the realism factor. The reason why it's not a big deal is because it's a pve element and the pve aspect of this game is basically a time sink. Surviving the elements will be easy, always, because there's player versus player interaction possibilities. Let me explain. See, when you have a game that intertwines pve and pvp so closely, the need to watch damage balance is paramount. How many shots should it take for one man to kill another man? Combat needs to be based around authentic weapon damage effects. So, once player versus player damage is set developers balance zombie health/outgoing damage/ai. Herein lies the problem. You can't make the zombies so completely overpowering in order to make them a formidable challenge to geared players because they'll annihilate new spawns. Tents will never be safe and they wont save you from being killed by other people. Also, not losing absolutely everything doesn't break immersion, imo.
