DayZ is a game about theft.

Re: "oh great, another KOS thread." Look, this is a forum where people talk about the game. I'm not in your face, shoving this stuff down your throat. YOU decided to read the forums and participate. No one is forcing you to be here. People talk about relevant topics because that's what forums are for! It's only natural that people talk about stuff. These forums provide a forum for this exact discussion. It's everyone's responsibility to themselves to provide worthwhile content, backed with reason, in order to engage in forum pvp, without resorting to lame posts, name calling, and pointless memes. If you can't accept the topics in the dayz forums, then you shouldn't be here. Re: care bare servers with nothing but PVE and anti-KOS rules. Don't worry, I wont be on your boring servers. When the norm becomes PVE + rules I will gladly find another game where the true currency is hostile interaction birthed by time investment, not sharing and caring. I posit that if dayz 'vanilla' is phased out and turned into private care bear shards that the game has failed. I'm a really nice guy IRL. When I want human interaction, harmless banter, working together, and sharing I will log off and go back to real life. *I* play DayZ for the fighting, for the hostile negotiations. This brings me to the next point.... Re: The dayz tag-line. Just stop being a tool. Instead of taking the statement that was created to acquire customers as literal interpretation, try making the game what *you* want it to be. You're doing yourself a disservice by not making the game into what *you* want it to be. It's cute when people have a bad case of the "suppossedtas." If I could care less about what the developers intended this game to be, I would. Instead, I will be a product of the product that has been laid out in front of me. I tend to interpret things as I see them, I will make this game be what I want it to be. You should do the same. If you want this game (a game made around a sandbox, weapons, and other people) to be a platform for social interaction, caring, and sharing then so be it. Just be cautious, because I'm out there, aiming to steal your stuff and rob you of the time it took to get it. Re: using DayZ videos as an argument. People don't have interactions and then decide to post a video about it. People create interactions because their intention is to make a video. Totally valid, btw! You think Jam-Jar would spend his time doing his "surprise, prize, demise" interactions if there was no recording of it? He's not making those videos because he likes player interaction. Jam-jar likes making videos because the clips attract attention to himself. Again, totally valid reason! YOU CANNOT SURVIVE A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE WITHOUT HANDCUFFS AND KEYS.
  2. Cool. I like resets. If it were up to me, we'd reset every Wednesday morning. Cheers to the devs for making an alpha playable. It sure is interesting to watch how a company develops a game from early alpha, with the support of its fans.

AAR: Musings of a GWOT Vet Newb

Nice post. Killing on sight is standard protocol because there is nothing else. Until better communities are formed through more server control, persistent items, barricading, and vehicles, there will only be people shooting at people.

Has dayZ succeeded in being a different type of game?

Like every single MMO out there, the pve challenge will only last until you learn how to deal with it. Avoiding death from the elements will only last so long. Once you figure out how to not die from zombies/disease it will only come down to whether or not a player will kill you.

whats the scariest moment you've had?

Biggest fear here was rubberbanding in experimental. Going from 'oh shit, I just jumped off the ledge' 'oh shit' 'oh shit' 'oh shit, I'm falling really far' 'oh shit, I'm gonna die when I hit the ground' 'WOAH!, I'm back up on top of the building' 'whew!" So, for a period of 1.5 to 2.5 seconds shit gets really real. Then I'm okay. That gets me jumping sometimes. Player related fear doesn't happen to me anymore, really. Once I accepted that the gear I have will probably be gone soon, fearing death doesn't really happen.

trust person was kill me and my frend

It's a ruse. Shrub speaks English as his native language. Look at his sentence structure. Look how the thought reads. Adjectives before nouns and all. Look at the words he doesn't misspell on purpose. For example, he'll misspell 'friend' but not stomach, continue, because, tactical, or paranoid. All words that 'foreigners' would likely misuse before the misspelling of friend, keep, or need. That said, the writing style is somehow appropriate for the story he's conveying. It's entertaining enough, though I bet his stories would read just fine in his first language...English.

What is it that causes it?!

takes longer to switch items in hand if you have them at the ready. worst topic title ever.

My bug/glitch experience all issues i know

-you probably joined a different hive. -working as intended. -server probably in the middle of restarting. -known issue, check bugtracker -known issue, check bugtracker -wut? -known issue, check bugtracker -known issue, check bugtracker -known issue, check bugtracker DayZ is in the alpha stage of development. During this stage, developers integrate new systems, designs, and mechanics into the game. Not until Beta do they look to work out all the minor bugs. It's not really worth it to work on small bugs, like the ones you mentioned. Also, the devs are clearly sadists who want you to suffer during Alpha. So, it's kind of a win-win situation for them. Check out the Bugtracker, yo!
  9. It's no secret. Video games are an outlet for sociopathic behavior. DayZ totally enables it tho. Have faith that when the dust settles the game will provide a more worthwhile alternative to killing on sight.

How many ammo do you carry?

Unless you plan on going into a warzone in the near future, you only need one ammo box. Ideally, I carry a kitted akm, an axe, and an amphibia. One ammo box is plenty. You shouldn't need more than 300 rounds during casual gameplay.
  11. When you make a bold claim, like you did, it's best to support your idea with evidence and examples. You can't just make a demand like that without some reasoning behind it. Or You're terrible at trolling.

Re: nails in bats. It was probably an idea brought up while brainstorming. Persistent storage! Game changing. Can't wait to see the new towns!

  14. I was curious as which of the following choices people preferred. If you have any suggestions, please tell! I realize that the polls may not have an option that suits your flavor, but please then just choose the most acceptable answer. Thanks.

    Possible City Idea

Can we add a river to this city of yours? With craftable cement shoes? Then yes, I'm all for it.

    NPC villagers, pedestrians, and military?

Running through the forest one day I saw a frogger chasing a cow. Epic npc high speed chase! I would KOS any npcs, always.

    liking the game But....

Best advice Eva: learn how to fight. Practice dying as much as possible. Fist fight people till you're good at it.

Amputations and posibility to survive headshot

Too much. Seems unnecessary to survive. Extraneous.
  19. Parazight

    Craftable Noose.

    I can't survive without a noose, afterall.

    Improving realism, reducing KOS, etc.

It IS a KOS deathmatch right now. Have faith that once completed, Dayz will have server communities that don't kill on sight as frequently. Persistence, more server control and barricading will help form these groups.
  21. Parazight

    new guy help please

At this point in the game's development there is no community. There's no community because there's no persistence. There's no persistence because it's Alpha. Have faith! A lot will change, not just mechanics but the social aspect as well.

    The DayZ endgame

Today I'd like to talk about the future of the game. Not the future of mechanics or updates, not the future of upcoming items, patches, or otherwise 'minor' details. Today, we're going to talk about the endgame. How will the game retain interest with the consumer? What is the longterm fate of DayZ? How will the game evolve once it's out of beta and onto the store shelves? Important questions that deserve attention and the answers will drive the success or failure of its lifetime on the market. Let's start off by analyzing the words right from the horse's mouth as this statement is often taken literally and quoted as the entire focus of the game. Some people seem to take this as the drive behind the development of the game. Attitudes and arguments have been formed around this statement and people interpret its meaning in a number of different ways. Now, personally, I think it's a clever tag line that will help sell the product. Players have argued that this game is all about player versus player combat while others point out that this game is a zombie survival game first with player interaction being an integral part of it. Dean Hall and BI may use this tag line to attract players but it's not something to base your gaming experience off of. It's cute, but ultimately the player base will decide what this game means and choose to make it what they want it to be. Open world hybrid MMO. What does this mean? It's a sandbox. A gaming sandbox is a large realm where sections are not instanced and players are not separated except by their own whims. It's a first person shooter. Hence the 'hybrid' part. There is no doubt at all that the game is filled with weapons, first person simulation, and all the major mechanics of any FPS. But it's also a MMO! The life cycle of whatever you're doing never ends. There is no 'finishing the game'. The environment involves multiple people in the same place doing stuff. I think because the game defines itself by taking parts from multiple number of genres that the lines are blurred as to what it is exactly. This grey area of definition propagates heated discussion of how to act, what to do, and what to expect. Some people will tell others that if they want to shoot people then they should go play any number of Call of Duty style games. I mean, it's an MMO, not CoD. So, it's different enough from that type of game that players may try to make the gameplay atmosphere into something more typically MMO-ish and not a KOS wasteland. Others point out the striking similarities to first person shooters and insist it is another Battlefield, with a twist. Well, I've played all the major MMO's out there and all the first person shooters as well. Call of Duty, Battlefield, WoW, Swtor, Ultima Online, and EQ, for example. I've seen it all. The common thread to all of them is player versus player action. I've been on the bleeding edge of hardcore mmo progression guilds. I've been in FPS squads. I have more hours logged into these games than probably the lifespan of many of the people who visit these forums. Based on my experience, logic tells me that DayZ will be a pvp fps first. I predict (finally, a point to all this, right?) that the endgame to DayZ will be PVP, not surviving the zombies. It's a supercharged first person shooter. One of the best gaming incarnations possibly ever. Why will DayZ's endgame be pvp you ask? The answer is relatively simple. It's because like every single game out there, player versus environment is absolutely no challenge at all. Every MMO and FPS out there doesn't really provide any serious challenge to single player content. I'll say it again. SINGLE PLAYER CONTENT. I'm not talking about mmo raids either. That is not single player content. That requires the coordiniation of several people online to mechanics that are constantly updated. (new boss fights are put out because they get stale (and because of gearing stats, of course)). Single player content across any game format/genre in the history of gaming gets stale because the challenge becomes easy. Sure, DayZ will provide so much fun and challenge to new players. Surviving the zombies, figuring out how to not die versus the environment is fun. ...for a while. It provides a great product! Anyone who buys for the PVE will have a blast and it's a totally legitimate reason. But after a while, any gamer will figure out the game and surviving the elements will be easy. If you think that you'll be able to play this game for a year or more just surviving the elements then you're fooling yourself. Eventually not dying to zombies, rotten fruit, falling off ladders, etc. will become easy. You'll experience the hard lessons and learn not to die from dumb stuff. When that happens, what will you do? You will require a new challenge. The endgame that has never been apexed in the history of FPS and MMO gaming is player versus player combat. You will seek out PVP after you learn how to not die from zombies or you will move on to a different game. There is nothing more challenging than competing against another human being. When the fabricated AI challenges are solved there will always be PVP. Unfortunately for the PVE part of DayZ, it is totally mitigated by the absolute necessity to balance player versus player interaction. There is no game mechanic out there that will force you to switch targets off another player and onto a zombie. So, I guess this post is a warning to everyone who expects the game to focus off of KOS/PVP and onto more single player surviving elements. Personally, I don't see how it's possible that the game will enjoy a long life without the main drive being player interaction. Read:pvp. Please don't post what the developers want this game to be. Because it doesn't matter. The consumer will define the game, not the makers. TLDR: dayz pve will get stale. It's inevitable that the game will be a pvp wasteland.
  23. While I appreciate a thought out post, I think what you're suggesting is too complex. I don't think this system is necessary.
