The only real threat will be other players. I'm positive the survival game you desire will be there at 1.0. Welcome to the forums.

I've picked up a protector case recently, it's a great way to store hot food on your character without raising your body temperature.

I hang out in Nadezhdino a lot. Boars, sheep, and chicken spawn there regularly. Sometimes I even server hop there, just to chase animals around.

I can buy the "waiting to release animation" excuse. Sorta. Then again, many things are implemented with the incorrect animation. I was under the impression that balance wasn't a priority, considering the aforementioned flare gun and cooking pot, especially during alpha production. And if they knew it wasn't going to be in stable, why would they list in the changelog that this crafting with barrels is now available? I have no problems whatsoever with waiting. But when I spend a non-trivial amount of time looking for new items in the game, because they're in the changelog, and then to realize they aren't even in the game, it's kind of frustrating. Totally avoidable frustration.

They've changed the size of items before. How hard can it be? More overpowered than flare guns which can store any rifle? More overpowered than cooking pots, which double your carrying capacity?
-
Maybe it's not fists that are overpowered. Maybe it's the knockout mechanic. Yesterday, while wearing typical civilian garb, I was shot by another player. I got knocked out. I waited 3 minutes. Still unconscious. I went outside and had a cigarette, came back, still unconscious. Did a sink full of dishes, still unconscious. Waited another 2 minutes after that. Still unconscious. I wanted to actually play DayZ. So I respawned while still KO'd. This really IS the anti-game. ;)

When duct tape gets wet it loses all of the adhesive properties. Alone, the tape is useless to muffle a person. Check out any web video. Or search for identical threads on this topic.

Seems unlikely that you'd be able to tell what color you were sprayed with, if sprayed in the eyes with paint. More likely, your eyes would be shut and burning. Not bad for the most part. Poncho idea has merit.

Personally, I've never set up a camp or had need of persistence. Yet, I'd love to play around with a barrel. They *did* mention it in the changelog for .57, though. If they're going to put it into the changelog, then you'd expect to see it, right? Also, barrels should be very plentiful. They're all over in real life. In my opinion, the game should find a way to make them plentiful. Put restrictions on them or something. Make them take up the backpack slot and hands slot at the same time. Make them stationary. There's lots of options to balance the potential overpowered nature of barrels. Even if balance was a concern, how is it they rationalize Flare Guns and Cooking Pots on .57. Those are the real OP items right now. Give us the barrels, plz.

Fists are only slightly overpowered. There's no backwards stagger when you get clocked by fists, which there should be. You can spam attacks and chain hit your target easily with fists. Infected/players should reel backwards when hit with any kind of serious blow, but it doesn't happen with bare hands. Damage output seems okay for now.

Dear devs, I know that you will probably never read anything past page 5 here, unless someone forces you to, but here goes,... Please do not put things in the changelog or hype items for the next upcoming stable release unless you actually plan on having these things in that build. I had played every single iteration of .57 experimental. Except for the first, where there was no loot, I looked for a barrel every single time. I never found one. Still can't find one on stable. Please don't hype items unless you know for sure they will be in the build. I read the changelog over and over. It described how I can use a barrel to do this and that. Even read lots of showcases on crafting with it. Never found one. Been held up by bandits several times while looking for them. The question I always ask them is "Have you seen any barrels yet?" "No" is always the reply. The same thing happened with bear traps. When they were first introduced to stable, they were no where. I don't care what rate you implement things into the game, but please don't hype them, and then not put them in. It's a totally avoidable source of frustration. The thing is, to my understanding, that with CLE, item spawn percentages can be modified on the fly, without a big download or change to the client. Please fix barrels so that players can live the 'hermit lifestyle', just like how you've been promoting.

The flare gun is easily the most overpowered item right now. It makes having to choose between weapons absolutely pointless. As far as the numbers that Evil Minion listed, it's hard to put much stock into it. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the effort and hope he does the same during later stages of development. The numbers will likely change during beta. Furthermore, 99% of the time the crucial piece of information is who saw who first, not ballistics.

Everyone plays the game the way they want, so...
Parazight replied to NomadZ's topic in General Discussion
Combat logging isn't a playstyle. Logging out because you're afraid to lose your gear (you didn't even have a gun, dude) is what happened to the OP. -
Yay. Fun times is back. good job devs! Edit: First

Can you tell us how, or if, dynamic events will be tied to the new central economy? Furthermore, what is the role of dynamic events in pushing player progression across the map? Will the CLE involve items that could be permanent? Perhaps something like fixed barrels, or other items made overpowered when made mobile. It's great to see the progress made to the game so far, guys! :)

Behold, as the most diabolical plan to KOS other players unfolds here.

With single sentence paragraphs he prefers to write, In-game survivor, the forums is where he prefers to fight. Perhaps during a future season, This here forum poster will listen to reason. Oh my God! My pants are tight.

animal spawns anyone? barrels?

You make so many wrong assumptions, all wrapped up in semantics, based off of horrible examples.

No, you You don't. Don't *make* people do anything. The game is not dying. good grief. What exactly do we need to test in 1pp? Do you have something in mind that needs to be tested, that can only be done in 1pp? You're using the argument that we need more people to test things in 1pp. Why? What are we testing there?

I don't think it's necessary (or a good idea) to force a playstyle, even for a little while. Personally, my first 1000 hours or so involved running around as a coast rat and pvping in Electro/Berezino/Cherno. Then I took a break for a few months. I came back and tried out 1PP. Liked it a lot. Now I enjoy both! I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it if it was forced upon me. I sought out what I wanted to do in the game. That led me to 1pp. I guess the point is, players will play what they want. If it wasn't meant to be, then don't force it.

Well, it really doesn't matter what the game is designed to be. It will be be a hardcore survival game to you. It will be a pvp deathmatch game to other people. To another group, it will be a zombie killing game. For me, it's a myriad of things. It's cute when Rocket says "DayZ is a survival game". And it's funny when people tell others what the game is supposed to be. Even if the developers said explicitly that the game was one thing or another, it really doesn't matter. Despite any possible best attempts to shape the product to a particular vision it will always be what the mass of consumers turn it into. That's because this is an mmo. DayZ is a game about player interaction. Dayz will sell more copies of the game if some form of 3pp is available. MMOs have been set in 3PP since the beginning. It works out best this way to enhance player/social interaction. In my opinion, if this game is designed to be a survival game, then it probably has a very short shelf-life. Surviving is not going to be hard at all. The biggest threat will always be other players. Players will adapt to the infected and figure out how to not die to them. Players will figure out how to not die to the elements. If you could somehow play the final product and remove other players, the game would be really, really easy. There is no environmental content in the history of mmos that's too hard for single player content. Find one example. Having 3pp AND 1pp lets us do what we want. Keep this separate! Options are good!

excellent question. I haven't seen any and I've been through most of the west. :( Has anyone found a barrel? If so, where at?
