    You want consumers to be playing the game, not staring at a timer. Perhaps in a mod. But not for vanilla.

People who KOS (even with grenades) don't really care about their own toon's life, so why should they care about yours? Please don't answer that question here.

    This just in. Pulling a pin on a grenade and stuffing it into a backpack/hunter jacket for wayward survivors to find on the streets of cherno is still beyond hilarious. Gonna test protector cases + pulled pin + persistence this weekend. Going to assume it wont work, but we'll see. Pulled pin grenades are above and beyond my favorite way to KOS. I can play online chess and read the news on my second PC while I do it. All I have to do is listen for the explosion, no aiming required! A good thing, because I'm a pretty terrible shot.

    Please explain why a fresh spawn deserved to be assaulted by 4 armed squadmates. The guy was just looting on the coast when 4 guys attacked him with melee weapons and firearms. I'd probably invent some colorful words to describe the assailant's mother, just like he did. That said, not a bad first video. I look forward to the next one!

    Best green guard shack on the coast is in Kamenka. Just out of zone 1, that thing is always packed with RAKs, MP5Ks, and handguns. No one ever seems to go to Kamenka, even though it has a helicopter crash site.

  12. I'm sorry, what is it that you're suggesting, specifically? The title of this thread indicates that we should be able to identify specific players with binoculars/scopes without having nameplates. (it is in the suggestion forum, afterall)
  13. Oh, I see now. I think you've already figured out the solution to your problem (identifying players at 100+ meters). I'm not sure if it is something that's appropriate for the vanilla standalone, but seems like a great idea for a private server/mod. I certainly hope that something like that would be possible, if players wanted it.

    I had recently started a thread in the Suggestions sub-forum titled Arm the Infected So, yea. I wouldn't mind infected that shoot back. Note that I don't necessarily think they should have great aim. Although, I'd be okay with mediocre aim, or better, even. Hell, even if their weapon was totally empty, they'd instinctively try and shoot it. If the only result was that other players would hear zeds shooting at you then they'd be much more significant. Infected trying to stab me with bayonets? Sign me up!
  15. Seems like a lot of work. And the bounty (items) isn't that great. Maybe the bounty should be fame/notoriety? I think it's a noble effort to reduce KOS on your (private?) server. Stopping KOS is like trying to turn the tide in a sandbox that only has players and ways to kill other players.

    Good topic, Flimflamm. What I find interesting is the question of how far modders can go before other titles are just plain better and/or are more attractive. Take dayz racing simulator mod, for example. Or, at what point would a dedicated flight simulator be better? Personally, I'd probably check out a mod where nothing spawns and interacting with the environment is the only way to obtain items. Infected with assault rifles. Probably try that as well.

    Haha. Seriously, wtf. Stop with the ridiculous assumptions. I love 1PP. BI isn't going to give up on 3PP because of the incoming revenue it generates. It's obvious to anyone over the age of 15 that forcing 1PP only will result in less copies sold. "Hardcore Survival" is just a couple of words used to describe the genre that the game falls into. Don't fool yourself into believing that survival will ever be difficult. It never has been, and never will be, across any sandbox MMO, now or anytime in the future. The devs know this. This is why trying to make the game about 'hardcore survival' is absolutely laughable. It's okay if you don't believe me. You'll just have to learn the hard way, broken-hearted. Take for example, "survival games" that hicks runs. Not at all about survival, is it? All about the pvp. You know why no one ever complains about the name? Because survival is a joke concept. End game will always be videos and pvp (like it is right now) because survival, infected, and PVE are pathetic concepts as central driving gameplay. Futile to post on forums, you say? Is this your first visit on the Internet?

    There's no way they're going to remove 3PP. That would be the most asinine business decision in the history of forever. Regarding movement speed, it's how it is for a reason. It's alpha. All modes of transportation haven't been implemented yet. People need to be able to move around in order to report bugs across the whole map. Everyone else on these forums and the development team understands this. Everyone except the OP knows they're going to adjust player speed during the BETA stage because that's the smart thing to do. So yes, player speed needs balancing, but not yet.

    That's just not true at all. It's silly. Even at the last RTX, Hicks explains that players are the only significant threat. Zeds and survival are there to enhance the game. PVE has NEVER been challenging across any sandbox MMO, and it never will be.

    So, I'll preface this suggestion by stating that I don't think the infected will ever be a real threat. The only element in DayZ that will ever be truly dangerous is other players. I'm not going to provide links, but if you've been following developer responses, you know that Hicks has said this. Zombies are there to enhance the environment. That said, infected could probably be upgraded a bit, difficulty wise. I'd like to see zeds shooting at people. This isn't to say that they'd have great aim or anything, or even realize (or care) that their firearm is loaded. You've seen them one-handed leap over fences. You've seen them track players. They're superhuman, like a doped up Russian Olympian. Based on what we've seen recently, they should be able to negotiate the mechanics of pulling a firearm trigger and aiming it at something. Imagine watching streams where players have to actually consider zeds, instead of outright ignoring them when they're in melee range. Or, maybe having to carefully navigate tent city and systematically taking out these diseased vermin before you can loot. Let's say you aggro a zombie, start running, and once you get some distance, when it looks like you'll be able to out-run them, they stop, raise their Makarov, and pull the trigger. The gun might just click because he's long out of ammo, but that doesn't matter. If he can hurdle large fences with ease, he should be able to instinctively raise his arm and squeeze his hand. How about that? When you're looting and you hear gunshots, you have to wonder, is that a player or is it infected? Infected shouldn't just die when they fall over. There should be a chance that he just got knocked out. Infected Dean Hall should jump back up, growl, and pursue you more. Maybe try and throw something at you. Infected should be able to hide and camp inside buildings. These are former clever humans here. Let's give them some love. When we do kill them and proceed to loot, we should sometimes find a grenade with the pin pulled waiting for us. Booby-trap those guys. Limiting zeds to melee attacks in a sandbox full of players and military grade weapons is rather silly. We don't have to make them all overpowered, but at least the ones in zone 2 and up, the ones off the coast and around military installations. If there's going to be loot on them, then at least make them non-trivial. Thanks. Thoughts?
