    DayZ 0.63 Melee Combat Test - 1 vs. 3

    Nice video! You seem to be a melee combat enthusiast. Have you found that attacks that use the default shift key, and stun, actually do less damage overall than simple jabs? At least with infected, it seems that it takes far fewer swings to bring them down with basic attacks than using a stun lock combo. Also, zeds seem to hit harder but have less health than players right now. Would you agree?

    Sorry, I'm totally lost now. Survival is supposed to be difficult? Sure doesn't seem that way. Might be a bit of a grind sometimes, but it never seems hard. Could you provide a link to where the devs state that survival is supposed to be difficult?? Or could you give any example where it's actually hard and not just time consuming? Many of your posts and points are conjecture with a lot of hyperbole on top so I'm having a difficult time believing you. Thanks.

    PVE isn't hard at all. It's just that there's exactly zero modes of transportation other than your feet.

    Ho hum. This idea again. The adrenaline mechanic happens in real life. Please don't add another adrenaline mechanic to the game. Also, suggestions usually go into the 'Suggestions' sub forum.

    I'd like a game that's marketable. I'd like a game that gains popularity and doesn't come with a horrible initial reaction. .63 is going to be more punishing than 1.0. Because of lack of transportation. You want the initial reaction to be negative? How will that help draw players to the game?

    All true. Also consider vehicles. Bikes will be a thing. .63 is pretty barebones right now. Remember early alpha access when all the noise was about vehicles? It's possible that getting around will become much easier as beta progresses. I am really hoping that we'll see the first beta on stable with bikes. Otherwise, a lot of returning players may be turned off if going from place to place is punishing. We'll see, I guess.

    Oh, the buggy card. Can you really play that one? We are still in Alpha/Beta stage. Everyone here knows that there's bugs and that they get worked on. Tons of bugs are expected as DayZ goes into beta. Bugs we've all seen before. Punishing anti-game. Just no. The last time anyone seriously pushed 'punishing anti-game' was Dean. Making an anti-game game is nonsensical. The title has to have balance, has to have mechanics that make sense, it has to be a game,... in order to be a game. Non-sociopaths play this game all the time. People treat it as a game. We don't murder people out of boredom in real life. This is clearly an MMO. A first person shooter MMO. Without NPCs, text, or currencies. Has anybody really been tricked into believing this is really an ANTI-GAME? What is an anti-game anyway? Nothing. Just some stuff someone made up to sell an idea. Seems self evident to me that a gaming company cannot sell something that isn't a game, to a bunch of gamers. There isn't much research necessary, really. It doesn't take years or even days to follow the implemented game mechanics. Personally, I've never came across an instance where I learned something on my own, in-game. I guess if you've never searched the internet and intentionally shield yourself from learning things outside the actual game, then you may gradually learn information. But if you do it that way, you're putting yourself at a disadvantage. I really like the new controls. I haven't followed reddit complaints. Sure, there's more going on now and control of your toon requires more keystrokes and extra actions, but this is actually a good thing! Right now, in .62 you get to dodge and weave and perform complex actions easily and without penalty. .62 is basically abusing the network to dodge bullets. Melee combat is way more powerful than it should be. Midrange tactical warfare is basically non-existant. It's just poking people with sticks, camp sniping, ignoring zombies, and shoot as much as you want. I don't see the complaints people have with navigating the UI and player controller. You have the ability to change keybindings to suit your needs. I did. It worked great. I play .63 offline smoothly and practiced the keybinds I set. Muscle memory makes it smooth over time. It's so much easier to just play when you don't have to think about what key to press in order to do something and this comes with time. The game doesn't need instructions and isn't CONSTANTLY ANNOYING. Completely subjective. You've made references that Peter and Brian somehow don't get along. Brian hasn't really indicated that he's at odds with Peter. Who even cares? It's a business. Reading between the lines and saying there's conflict is like high school drama. Just take them at what they say. It's so much easier that way. It's really hard to debate a point based off of the conjecture of two developers' relationship.

    How about just taking what he wrote in the Status Report for face value? I'll translate. Here, Brian feels like he's no longer needed. He states that he's collaborated with the team a bunch. Now he feels as if their dreams are finally within grasp. Brian states he's been taking more of a back seat and letting folks like Peter, Adam and others' voices be heard. He has also dropped info about his future plans and has been working for free in a consultant role. Brian won't lie to you. Brian states he plays DayZ a lot. He's looking forward to opportunities back home in the States and being closer to family. He looks forward to playing more DayZ. So there it is. The real reason/s Brian Hicks is moving on.
  11. Cheers for spreading the good word. Much of the noise surrounding "DayZ died" content comes from youtube kids where most of their videos just complain about things they don't like. Nobody important takes these brats seriously. Seriously. Show me a video where the author actually knows a lot about development cycles AND DayZ, please. Regardless, everyone knows that everyone has been told to be patient and that timeline projections, in reality, need to flexible. There's a lot of vids around where nerds try to justify their lack of patience. So be careful out there!
  12. You'll probably be able to run "decent ish" at .63 Stable. Lower resolution and details. Assuming your PSU is good enough, upgrade your GPU. 700 series is pushing minimum requirements. For a hundred fifty bucks, you could upgrade to 900 or 1000 series and get a real boost.

    I wish the controls took advantage of mousewheel up/down more. I often re-keybind games to use MW up/down to major mechanics and things that require precision clicks. Being able to continually roll the mouse wheel, imo, would be a great alternative to holding.

    I've had success rebinding. Try again, but hit "Apply" after every thing you do. Remember, clicking and holding are different functions. While holding the weapon in your hands, HOLD DOWN the ammo mag hotbar keybinding in order to attach it to the weapon. While holding the mag, HOLD DOWN the bullets hotbar keybinding in order to fill the mag.

    I get the feeling that the game doesn't really want you to have free global positioning information. The best 'loot' you can get, that never gets wiped, is knowledge of the map, items, and mechanics.
  17. Meh. I'd probably vote for content creators like gekofish. For me, it has to be entertaining. If there's a story, then great. Tactical PVP videos are a dime a dozen. I personally find videos boring when the interaction is strictly bullets flying.

    Maybe you should rename your video to "LUCKY COINCIDENCE" At 5:07 you make yourself known to the guy on the rocks. The player didn't respond to you at all. Or even move. He disappeared at 5:18. He was fully geared, dual carrying a M4. You had a scorpion.

    No idea how you're trying to position by linking a Billy Idol song. I'm totally baffled. Idol has stated in interviews that the song is about a guy seeing a girl he was once in a relationship with marry someone else. He's still deeply in love with her, but she's not. How this relates to DayZ alpha popularity is mind boggling. This thread, every post in it, (including mine) is totally irrelevant. The question of popularity regarding DayZ (alpha) is a bad question. You enjoy DayZ and what it potentially brings to the table of online gaming or you wouldn't be here. The popularity of DayZ will naturally change when .63 hits stable because of hype and progress, regardless. It's a huge change and players following the cutting edge of FPS MMOs will naturally want to check it out. And you should! To answer the OP's original question; my opinion is that the current popularity is waning in anticipation of the huge changes just around the corner. The popularity will change drastically soon, so who really cares about the popularity of the current, but soon archaic system? The devs don't.

    What on earth are you talking about? What is this lie? There is no lie. You're just making a bunch of general statements based on your opinion. General consensus huh? Where are you getting your numbers? Provide a link to this consensus you speak of. Foolish according to who? According to what? Again, this vague 'lie' thing you blather on about, providing no evidence or anything. The only 'lie' that I see is where you state 'far and wide', 'general consensus', 'majority of people', 'absurd amounts of crap'. All relative, all meaningless. Please provide any sort of logic and not just how you feel bad and are frustrated. It's like you believe the devs are trying to troll us and only occasionally work at their job when they feel like it, or something like that. Do you think these developers, who are working for a legitimate business, aren't just normal people who are trying to be honest and work hard to create a product and do what they've been hired to do? I'm sorry to hear you think this is an unreasonable amount of time. It's not. You realize these other games that just take an already existing engine, and throw content on top of it, have much less work to do in order to get to a finished state. In fact, many of these games like PUBG, Arc, H1Z1, etc. use an already existing engine (the unreal engine took well over a decade to develop to its current state) so development appears to be far less time consuming. You've made a ton of broad assumptions, claiming 'everyone' is upset but you really aren't in touch with the entire gaming community. Please stop providing sweeping arguments with made up nonsense, based on how you feel about your current situation. DayZ's creators have told you not to play it and that it will suck for some time. You agree to this every time you launch the simulator. Maybe you should take a break. Maybe you should wait until the Enfusion engine is adopted by many other titles and then play them, when they're ready.
