No. That's a load of crap. First off, there's zero reason to go across the map at all. The loot comes to you on two legs, in addition to there being no linear progression whatsoever. Second, as long as you don't go running around 'blitzing across the map' you can survive off of ambient loot all day long. Survival would be just as easy with zero cans of food spawning, twice as many infected, and infected hitting twice as hard. You just have to not make stupid decisions. Like looting truck batteries as a new spawn when trucks aren't even in the game yet. Perhaps you haven't experienced the clearly noticeable fact that if you have a buddy with you, negotiating the environment is profoundly easier. I dunno, maybe this is the first MMO sandbox that you have played. The reasons why single-instance, sandbox PVE can never be difficult has existed long before Bohemia Interactive was even a business entity.

Clearly a focused effort to address the current persistence issues. For this, props to the developers!!

If a player, with as much in-game experience as IMT has, plays for 6-8 hours, and isn't 'geared to the teeth' with the current set of options that 'vanilla' provides then there's something wrong. Environmental survival is straight-up not hard at all and really, it will never be hard, as long as you have some sort of social skills. It can never be designed, and scaled to be difficult in an open world sandbox environment. Welcome to sandbox MMOs since the very beginning of sandbox MMOs. You can't blame game design because scaling cannot be balanced in a setting where players grouping up mitigates PVE difficulty. Players grouping up is entirely based on social interaction, which of course, is not a controlled setting. Long story short, if you have no social skills, PVE is harder. Proper sandbox PVE scaling in a single, large instance, has always been the impossible dream.

holy thread necro. You realize this is the arma2 subforum for the dayz mod, jah? It's great that you performed a search for this topic. Somehow, you missed the one that was a day old, also in the appropriate section.

So, the company that developed DayZ put out this gameplay trailer and it showcases cars and basebuilding in their 1.0 release. Cars and basebuilding, more often than not, don't work. It's that simple. It's not hard to find cars, but I guess it is rare to find one that you can get into, start, and not randomly die to. Seems pretty authentic to me.

Concept suggestion: Heat-seeking missiles

Sorry, underground bases will never happen. Devs have already explained why. -
I opened a restaurant IRL. Decided that I'd only serve customers once. You get one hamburger, then you're banned for life. It's been great. Total marketing geniusry. Banning someone after their first visit is a great way to retain customers. You should totally do it, Survivor1431. Rent your own server and just kick people off of it. WORTH IT.

First you group up 5 sticks. You have to cycle through recipes, typically by left clicking to select which recipe you want. Then hold LMB to craft. edit: oh wait, this is xbox forum. I dunno. works fine for the keyboard people.

Anyone offer good advice (No haters please)
Parazight replied to mullo's topic in General Discussion
The OP specifically asked for haters NOT to reply, yet here you are choppinbroccoli and MaxwellHouse69420. Not everybody is interested in hearing your whining. There's plenty to do, you just have to have some imagination. This isn't some game where you can min/max. There's no line in the ground for you to follow. Sometimes it takes effort to figure out what you want to do. People who are bored are boring. Try interacting with other people. -
Hmm. Not a whole lot you can do on a public hive, I reckon. A person can easily respawn with any number of items + F11. You can't box them in effectively if they can server hop to get out of it. You can''t restrain them because it enables the ability to respawn through the interface. Legs don't really break. Not a lot of options to make miserable people miserable, unfortunately. Sometimes I wish actions could be tied to a steam account and people held accountable for their action, but alas, anyone can be nameless and have no morals in a simulation where there's no consequences.

Why not just leave the bag out? And shoot the interloper? Unless you're a fresh spawn. But, if you're a fresh spawn, then you're on the coast. And if you're doing this on the coast, why are you trying to ambush other fresh spawns for loot? lol
-
It's not a bug. Right now, you can only have one character per hive. So, one character for official/public. One for community/public. One for each 1pp-only variant of those hives. One for each private hive. You can't have multiple characters for official+public, for example.

Maybe it would be helpful if we could set items to hotbar, while in the inventory screen, with the number of the key, by hovering over the item. For example, you have a stone knife in your backpack. You hover your pointer, while in the inventory, over your stone knife. You tap "2". Hotbar "2" is now set to stone knife.

Everyone knows that a fully kitted enduro helmet is not only fashionable, but the mere presence of it literally scares the zombies away, while attracting the ladies(!). You know, just because it says "Veteran" in the server browser, that doesn't mean you are one. It's not actually an exclusive club.

MAKING ANTISOCIAL PERSONALITY DISORDER GREAT AGAIN!!
-
I seem to lose tents, barrels, sea chests and drybags about every week or so, on average. I don't really store anything in them anymore. I do however use them just to see how often i would be losing them. ADAs however, have been great. My current base includes 4 cars as storage and one or two random barrels for hoarding wolf steaks. Hasn't persistence always been a problem tho? Since, like, 2013? Is this even a problem that's unique to BI games. Is it really solvable? I've basically given up on long term storage, much less try to ever build bases again. No one knows, I'd bet. Standard new spawn loadout includes a knife, which you can F11 with

I suggest a minor tweak to loot on zombies for the base game. A simple change might be to replace food spawning on zombies with Burlap Sack and Netting. Right now, there is too much food overall. The ambient food spawns (animals/fruit) are a great part of the experienced and should be pushed. At the very least, replace canned food with simple fruit on zombies. Leave a little for fresh spawns, but tone it down, please. Right now, a new spawn can easily survive solely off of ambient apples, pears, etc. In addition to having too much food, there's not enough netting or burlap sacks. The core gameplay loop can afford to have more of both. Netting is pretty worthless to a new spawn and doesn't spoil the new player experience as a fresh spawn. Burlap Sacks are one of the game's best items. It is the perfect item for new customers to experience crafting. Both Improvised Backpacks and ghillie clothing for late game. There can never be too many Burlap Sacks. Making ghillie suits is a fantastic time sink. If more sacks were available, ghillie suits would be a realistic possibility.

How I Became The Best Player In DayZ

Yea. Dawn and dusk are a problem. I avoid driving right after the sun goes down. But the middle of the night isn't as bad.
-
Exactly! Later! Right now, diseases aren't in the game. That's fine and all, but, this is 1.0+ The game should be balanced for the here and now.
-
I wouldn't even create a poll. I understand that balancing needs to happen and the developers are probably aware. I'm positive they'll readdress it.
-
So the old bad server browser get replaced by one even worse?
Parazight replied to Evilsausage's topic in General Discussion
If you're spamming buttons then it's going to gum it up. The server browser has been working fine for me. If you select your options, navigate properly and wait for it to do its thing then you shouldn't have too many issues. One tip is to let it populate fully, then change filters. The latest update is definitely a big improvement over the first 1.0 release. -
Honestly, this is a pretty terrible poll. I won't be voting. Of course people want proper implementation of a mechanic. Who in their right mind would want improper implementation? That's ridiculous. Option one is to agree to common sense. Option two requires the reader to come up with their own solution. Possibly an improper solution. This requires a bunch of extra work, relatively speaking. Not practical for a poll. Option three suggests that you'd want improper implementation. It's really hard to believe that the devs would demand that the current balance is set in stone, so this poll sort of comes off as whining, imo.

No idea. I found a kit during 1.0 before this patch. I used it. I saw the results. Find items and play around. It’s not hard.

They were back in before this patch. If you use a blood test kit, it will tell you your blood type next to the icon on the user interface.
